Was on my way to work this morning and stopped on a hill at a red light. Light turns green so I start letting out on the clutch and I thought the truck was going to stall so I mash the clutch in and it picked back up, so I give it some more fuel and start letting the clutch out again and watta you know I start going backwards... in 2nd gear :stuned: truck ran for about 10 seconds or so backwards then died. Started it back up and off she went like normal. quite a experience though.

Yes... I seen that too not in my Dodge but in a military 2 1/2 ton... We had a fire fighter fire it up and had smoke coming out the air clean and ran backwards in all forward gears.I've heard of one other Dodge 12V that managed to fire up backwards...So its possible but rare...So if it did run in reverse double check your air cleaner because it will be damaged by the extreme heat of the exhaust coming back that way...

i have been kicked back by harley when trying to kick start it before. and thats from the engine trying to run backwards, though i never saw one actually run backwards. with the piston moving slow enough i could fire before tdc and push it backwards. thats just wierd.

You should reread the first post dually. Starter not involved.

Thats what is hurting my mind. If he started out fine what happened ?

It was at near stall speed and the injection pump fired yet as the piston was coming up but didn't quite make it and reversed directions and started running backwards. I just thought of something to be very aware of... Once it does start to run backwards shut it down as quickly as possible. Because now that the engine is running backwards that means the oil pump is now blowing bubbles in the oil pan and sucking the oil away from all the bearings, turbo, and piston cooling nozzles... :wow:

a backward running engine in nascar will destroy an engine in a split second. the drivers have to get themout of gear or the clutch in very quickly to avoid rotating them backwards during some of ther wild spins:wow:. seen many a driver have to park a car due to this.

imagine eating from your butt, pooping out the mouth... all kinda bad things happen. lol

:lmao2::lmao::lmao2::lmao:

The old I-6 300hp Mack engines would do it easily. Wouldn't hurt anything as long as you shut it down right away.

I rember when they had oil bath filters. That would blow the oil out and make a big mess when they would run backward. Then a big clean up.

I had this happen about a year ago. The filter will be damaged, but not from heat but from soot. The inter-cooler works good at cooling the exhaust too, LOL.

My brother in laws Bombardier Ski doo works on this principal for reverse, engine stalls then starts up in reverse rotation. Aren't the 12 V's considered a 2 stroke design?
