Schrader Valve FP Test Port
I chatted on FB last night with Eric. He not only had the employee quit he is in the process of moving so tough to keep things going. He also mentioned he no longer can do retail sales as he has done in the past. Apparently over the past few years retail purchases has become only about 10% of his business and now the new location he will not be able to do any without jumping through a lot of expensive hoops. In short it becomes not worth it which is sad but seems to be the way successful business has to work now. He basically is a manufacturer now. Goerand is a prime example of that since they don't really build trannies inhouse anymore from what I understand. I think you can still buy online from him but at this point he is mainly doing it all. If I didn't have so many irons in the fire myself (health wise) I would probably offer to do some fill in which I did once before. He did say he made the invoice you requested so not sure why it didn't get to you. Copy here. N5600- Fuller 8406 swap
I had seen that second one already but watched it again. That is a really neat rig and love the way it sounds. I am not positive but I think that is the same basic engine as a 275 with higher compression. I remember my boss talking about the difference in pistons and I think it was 320 horse but later downrated to 300 IIRC. That had to be a really big dog back then as the 275 I drove was in a '54 KW. It was fairly worn as the red oil light would flicker at idle but kept on running!

I was just givin' ya a shot. Not many around that could drive twin sticks. If you liked the twin stacked Cummins I drove a 275 gear grinder for awhile. Although single stack it did sound good but at the time I didn't appreciate it as much as I do know when I hear one fired up at a truck show. Wish I had that rig now.- N5600- Fuller 8406 swap
- Hello from 67Cuda
I arrived incountry January 1,1968, returned home December 24, 1968. Was pretty much straight east of that area in coastal Binh Dinh province. Arrived at a line company about 2 weeks before Tet. Wonderful introduction to combat and killing people for real. Hope your brother survived OK with no PTSD or other wounds as I did. Unfortunately Agent Orange is now taking it's toll. Thank him for his service. My younger brother was there a bit later than even that but loves to point out he slept in a made bed every night. I thought he was kidding and was likely just a cot. But just a couple days ago I text to ask him and yeah he actually slept in a real bed with a mattress. Not only that but I find out a couple months ago he had a hooch maid! So likely she made his bed for him, plus washed clothes regular and he ate every day in a mess hall!!!! I always tell him I'm glad you did, you may not have been as fortunate as I was.- Hello from 67Cuda
Can't help with the trouble on your rig but thank you for your service and sacrifice. It is not lost on me that sacrifice is every single day. I was in for 2 years and saw some that suffered as you have, especially since I was a medic and took care of some. I have often wondered how those fellas ended up. A few we have had contact with and not all have done well. http://www.ichiban1.org/images/photos/roth/index.htm Association of the 1st Battalion (Mechanized) 50th Infantry for Vietnam Veterans welcomes you!- Let loose
I am very happy with my 285's. Gonna stay that way. =)- Transmission upgrade
None in the least. I met and worked a bit for Tony Garcin (Dunrite) and learned a lot from him although at that point he didn't really build any trannies. Mostly convertors and valve bodies. He eventually sold the business to Source but was still going to build my transmission when the time came. Unfortunately he passed before then. Lost a great resource and personal friend. So when the time came I was looking for someone to do mine Jon was responding to posts some here and some on Cummins forum. I got the sense he knew what was going on inside these things. I had some private messages with him and talked a couple times on the phone and was quite satisfied with how/what he was saying. I had him do two for me and no reservations whatsoever. I do have to admit he has also become a personal friend although I would still not give him thumbs up if I didn't truly think he was very good at what he does. I am from Vancouver so roughly same distance give or take a few.- 02 smoking on startup and while driving till temp
Part of the reason I stayed with a 2nd Gen after '01 got totaled. Around here they are very expensive for a used rig but managed to show my insurance that and they finally came up with the bucks. BTW, since my plans to swap Jon's tranny build to the '02 fell through due to my bad knee going really bad (artificial now), I intended to rebuild and sell it. But a guy came along and gave me close enough $$ I wanted and it is back on the road but not totally repaired last I saw. He lives close, dropped by and seemed pretty happy with it. Is working to get the body repaired and painted.- 47RE Transmission - Want to service&install drain plug
Glad to hear you and family are doing well. Maybe next summer things will be caught up and my brother and I can make a trip over there. His son lives over somewhere in the vicinity and runs one of those windmills. I will likely pull the pan and change to an aluminum one since it adds strength to the case and I can change filter and put a bigger magnet in at that time. Where would one get one of the magnets like that since I think we lost track of mine somewhere along the line? I am guessing it will not really be an issue floating around inside? Not sure how the KTA 600 picture got on there but it shows the location of virtually all the class 8 pyro probes in at least the last 20 or more years. Prior to that they were pre turbo and although rare occasionally cost an engine.- 47RE Transmission - Want to service&install drain plug
That I knew but I was thinking about the big doughnut magnet. Tony always said these trannys made a lot of magnetic dust when first built and the drain magnet is mighty small. That's all mine has so should a guy pull it occasionally to clean it off? I have only had it out once since you did it for me. Changing pans would give a really good excuse now wouldn't it? I would have to check for miles. Hope you are doing well. Was hoping to get your way this summer and dropping by but I can see that is not gonna happen. =(- 47RE Transmission - Want to service&install drain plug
What about the pan magnet with an aluminum pan? Think I need to get one of these or similar. I don't see what brand or who makes this one.- New Tire Size found 235's to 245's
I made the point of checking mine yesterday on the way to Eugene. 62 on cruise was 1810 rpm and 70 was 2030 so we are close. That was give or take a few rpm either way since the roads are not 100% totally flat causing rpm to fluctuate a bit as you drive but these are pretty good numbers for my rig.- New Tire Size found 235's to 245's
I am running 4.10 sure grip rear and 3rd Gen rims with Nitto Duragrappler 285/75R17's. Just made a round trip from Vancouver, WA to Yuba City, CA. Averaged GPS calculated 19.8 and change and return was 20.3 and change. Around town about 18-18.5 most times depending on where/when I go. Probably making that trip again this next week so will see how it goes this time. I do drive pretty conservative and keep speed about 62 on cruise.- Control center rat trap on top
I hate cats inside the house so of course we have 2 and sometimes 3. Don't ask but the 2 that stay do this a lot and also get moles of all things. Last summer was the first in the 20 years we have lived here that I was not fighting moles digging up the yard so I guess there is some good in them. And they keep the rabbit/mouse population under control. =)- Everyone post a picture of your truck!
- At my freinds tranny shop
I saw 2 or 3 the couple times I was there. But you are right, pretty quiet but probably not like where you hang your hat!- At my freinds tranny shop
Now Mike you know you are actually facing the air strip there. =) LOL Jon has done 2 trannies for me. Jon, this sounds a lot like Tony talking---again. BTW he had a hand in designing one of the shift kits on the market and said it was not too bad. Unsaid, but I understood, what he was doing the time I was around was better. Plus he made several upgrades during that time also.- 17” 3rd Gen Wheels
Very much aware of that. My '01 got totaled and took out one of the tires (not rim) is the reason for another set of wheels and tires. Now have 3 extras to put in the rotation at some point. I think they are great tires with a better than expected snow traction at least when new. Probably have to do something different when they change rating. Have you seen/heard what's up with that at all?- 17” 3rd Gen Wheels
I have had 2 sets of Nitto Duragrapplers 285/75x17 on third Gen wheels. They are rated @ 3970 lbs. I also have 2 sets of 3rd Gen wheels which I paid $80 for the first and $100 for the second set. I did do a lot of watching Craigs list for them and basically first one there to make a cash offer. Discount mentioned Nitto was probably going to not build this tire anymore because they did not make enough money on them! =( Have been great tires for me.- Joining the 300K plus mile club
Yeah you're right. My wife hates it which makes me happy since she doesn't want to drive it. Part of it is it does not shift as smoothly as her Durango and I lock it in second and unlock to shift third while timing it so it doesn't hit hard but sometimes fail to do that as well as I could while being harassed by her. LOL If I drove it like her it is pretty smooth I think but of course she does not.- Joining the 300K plus mile club
Mine will lock in any gear. Just so ya know. =)- Making a choice on Tires for tow duty
I have Nitto Duragrapplers on my '02, size 285/75x17 Load range E. They are rated for 3,980 lbs IIRC. This is second set. I had about 40,000 or so on the first set when my '01 got totaled along with ruining the rear tire on that side. Think they were still about 8/32nds tread depth. I could check for sure if you are interested as I have not used those on the '02 yet since I bought another set of rims and tires. Very happy with them for both towing and mileage. I am guessing I would easily go 80-90,000. Sidewalls are very stiff. I highly recommend them if you want bigger tires/rims with street tread. When tread is good traction in snow is surprisingly good although certainly not on par with traction tread.- leaking antifreeze and oil, between front case, and block
