Sneezing truck?
On my son's 06, he turns it off and you hear the exhaust "exhale". It has 5" exhaust all the way. I agree with what Mike says.

Using a flush machine when doing a change is not good for our autos. It will put crap into places that you don't want them to be! Best thing to do is to drop the pan, change the filter, install the pan, fill the tranny up with about 8 qts, then remove the line from the tranny to the cooler, (furthest one back on the tranny on the left side). Start the truck up put it in nuetral and let the fluid come out, when it clears up, then tighten everything up and fill the tranny back upto the required amount. I asked this same question on another site and did a poll on it as well. Results were NO on the tranny flush! This is how I did my tranny.

Code p1682
Atually, Cummins minimum fuel pressure requirements for our trucks is 10 psi. But, remember the check valve doesn't open up until 14 psi. So, if you are constantly running anything less than the 14 psi you are not giving the VP and extra fuel to cool down.

Code p1682
That is great it is going again. Before you get too far make sure that the lift pump if giving you good psi at all times or your gonna be replacing another VP!

Where was my camera?
Today, I am heading back up the hill and notice a Chevy dualie with a 3 horse trailer jackknifed on a road. The tongue of the trailer was in the ditch on the right and the nose of the truck was in the ditch on the left side. Not sure how he did it! Were talking a very small hill! I turn around and ask if he needs a pull out of his predictament. He says my shortbed will not be able to do the job, he will have to get a wrecker. I tell him I will get my tow chain. I tell him to make sure he has the truck running so he has brakes and put it in gear. He leaves it in park for some reason, and I put it in 4 low and away we go! Barely put the pedal down! He can't believe that I pulled him out. All I could say to him was "That's why it is a Cummins!" So, that was my good deed for the day!

Obama trial
Interesting. Bet this "trial" will get very little media attention.

Code p1682
Dodgepwr is right about the codes. If you did the key trick and only got 1 "done" then you only got codes from 1 computer. You need to get the other codes. As well, just because you hear the lift pump doesn't mean anything. Do this test to see if it is working properly: http://mopar.mopar1973man.com/cummins/2ndgen24v/lift-pump-diag/lift-pump-diag.htm I would check that the batteries are fully charged, all the connections are clean and tight, and then take the truck down to a parts store and have them check the alternator to see if that is the cause of the 1682.

New ingredients
Wow!!!!!I love those. I could jump right into all of them in a heartbeat. I took one look at that babbling brook and the first thought that came to my mind was...grab a backpack, camera and sit down and enjoy for hours and hours. I love all of those. Where were you taking this pics at? Just beautiful...I want to go.

Glow shift gauges
I would stay away from the copper tubing as well. Had it in my 68 Chevelle SS 396 for awhile. It would always break. Like Mike says, the vibrations wreak havoc on it.

Cleaning the snow off the truck...
You must make up for the people that only clear enough off in order to see only thru the front window and not the side or rear windows! LOL

I believe they don't make the "3" anymore. Wen I went to change my fluid that is what I was told. But that was from a tech at AutoZone!- Raptor installed!
That is odd. Mine only drops 3 psi at WOT. I am pulling thru the stock fuel cannister too!- Code P0753 troubleshooting
Great write up! :thumbup2:Hope Mike puts this in wih the tips section!- Towing - MPG/HP - advice
Don't really know. It was with a large U-Haul trailer when I moved from Southern Utah to Oregon. I only went about 55 the whole time and just let the tranny work up the speed though.- 01 problem with injector pump I think
You can have codes without the light on.- 01 problem with injector pump I think
How did you check for codes? The key trick is not reliable for 01's. Sometimes it only gets 1 set of codes. You need a reader for the other computer. When my VP went out it was having the same symptoms as yours. The diapram might be torn, that could explain the hard starts.- Towing - MPG/HP - advice
Its been my experience that if I am doing a lot of towing when it is alot of stop and go I just forget about my MPG's. With an auto, I nurse it along and let the tranny work thru the gears rather than use my foot and motor right thru the gears. But, like Mike says, once you get up there just set it to cruise and let it rip. Last time I towed I was getting about 14 MPG's and then was going thru a lot of mountains and elevation changes.- Straight Pipe Exhaust - 2001 4x4 2500
My sons's 06 is straight piped. Egt's are cooler and HP is a little higher. Sounds real nice. Had only 1 problem with it when he was stopped in a "protected widlife area". The police man said he was going to give him a ticket for the noise ( he knew it was straight piped) my son told him that he would have to start writing tickets for the semis for being straight piped. The officer said "have a nice day!"- Thankful for a fuel pressure gauge!
I know it is overkill on the filter change. It helps me sleep better at night knowing I changed it! Where I worked before we had a fleet of bobtail diesels that the CEO thought it was unneccessary to change the fuel filters. I saw too many of the trucks have serious fuel related problems. This is the first time I have had a problem such as this. Wondering if it has been bad diesel?- Thankful for a fuel pressure gauge!
Well the past couple of days my pressure started out at 13 then it went upto its usual 17. Once driving it, it would drop 4 or 5 psi! :wow:I change my fuel filter at every oil change, it was time to do it. Put the new filter in and it is right back to the steady 17 psi. Now I see how people kill their VP when the lift pump goes out and they don't have a pressure gauge!- Another lift pump question
I would check the electrical connection to the pump first. Then disconnect the pump and check your power without the pump hooked up.- New Ice Cream... 'BAROCKY ROAD' - A NEW ICE CREAM FLAVOR
