Smarty Touch Install on 05 Cummins
Ok here is the skinny on my Smarty touch install with pics of where I stuffed things. I put all of the wiring and remote module in the open compartment of the left side of the dash where on some models there would be a fuse panel but in my case it was an open void just the perfect size for the touch components. There was an opening in the dash frame just the perfect size to get the OBDII cable end through and the other thing with the orange and yellow dot is the EGT probe hookup point which converts to the Touch module with another cable all of which wrapped up nicely and all fit in the cubby together. I think the pics will be self explanatory but you can ask about the specific ones if needed.

Helpful list of OBDII software
Since my wife has a smart phone and I have no way to retrieve codes from the new 2014 VW Jetta TDI I was looking into this as well, found it through the VW forums. http://torque-bhp.com/software/torque-android-obd2-adapters/ But I am leaning more towards the full blown VW service package for 200 buck+- so I can do more with it, even need this to change a fuel filter now. http://www.ross-tech.com/index.html

my 04.5 & me..smarty jr..lite pedal/smoke
The new POD REVO software was a HUGE improvement on smoke overall, the old original smarty tuning was horrible for black smoke and a constant haze at normal driving even, the new tune which is the latest on your JR POD is super clean in comparison. Look into the extra deep pleated filter for the OEM filter box and do the cold air intake mod PSM sells a premade kit or look up home depot intake mod to the stock box, much better way to go on a stock to slightly modded 3rd gen like AH64ID pointed out.

WOO HOO! Smarty touch in the plans for the 05!
Have to sign for the package and since we are rarely home during the day missed it again yesterday but the Mail lady left the signature slip and will leave it today finally. Been a long wait will be nice to finally get to install it and play around with the monitor to figure it out a bit before driving it to see what I have been missing not having gauges in the 05 for 8 years. I will snap a couple pics to show where I tucked the module and cables, found a nice void on the left side of the dash where they put a fuse panel on some rigs but on the 05 is is the perfect sized void for all of the Touch hardware so it isn't all clustered under the dash.

WOO HOO! Smarty touch in the plans for the 05!
The suspense is killin me............ How did it get shipped back to me so I know what or where to look? every delivery driver leaves packages hidden in different spots around my house. Its like a treasure hunt some days depending on which delivery method it comes by. FedEx really sux, lucky if I get it at my house half the time, usually have neighbors calling saying they have my packages at their house.

Rear Wheel Bearings
What he said^^^^^^^^^^by packing the bearings like that they will never get gear lube through them now. Premature failure coming again at some point guaranteed. A light coating is one thing would be better with gear lube but packed like that is asking for more trouble.

Rear Wheel Bearings
You have to realize the way the diff and axles are set up too. That oil has to work its way through not only the carrier bearings and or past the axle splines and side gear in the carrier then down the length of axle tube into the hub and then seep through the rollers of the outer bearing fill the small cavity between the outer wheel bearing and into the inner bearing. As you can imagine oil takes a while to seep through the rollers on a non moving bearing. I personally would not "Pack" the bearings. Best to coat them liberally with gear oil and or a coating of grease but do not pack them.

Some Good Mileage
A few years ago my wife and I did a road trip with the 05 cummins to Phoenix and back up along the Colo river to north side if Grand canyon and back, 4500 miles total and overall trip average was 19.8, Had several tanks 20.5 - 21 with smarty Jr on level 3 whole trip with ranch hand bumper as it sits in pics now. Had I not let my wife drive I know I could have easily broke 20+ for overall trip average but she has a really heavy foot and not uncommon for me to look overt and see 85-90 many times during her stints behind the wheel.

A/C problems - No compressor
I am in same boat at the moment with the new to us 2014 Jetta. I have no way of even retrieving codes. Wife has been getting an exh temp sensor failed warning the dealer said when they checked the code a couple weeks ago and there are about 4 of them on the thing with the DPF system and they take a special tool to change and are a pain to do from what I have read. This will be the determining factor on weather the dealer knows about the damaged title and will or will not warranty this and will push me to buy the software needed to work on this unit. Can't even change the fuel filter without it, no way to prime the system as it has 2 fuel transfer pumps that need to be cycled via a procedure with the service software for VW. If there is in fact no warranty the DPF and EGR deletes will be happening in the very near future.

Mike will you please be more specific as to exactly what you want.
lol. wouldn't be much of a write up since the only thing it needs is to be plugged into the obdII port and suction cup the monitor to the window. I think most could do that.

Rear Wheel Bearings
Bearing installed dry was the cause, damage was done by the time he hit the end of the driveway most likely just took a few trips to lock up completely.

A 1/4 inch of rain
We have one of those pickup washes in our equipment wash bay at work and it creates a headache for our pickup mechanic. It has so much pressure and since it sprays up from the floor along with top and both sides it actually gets things wet that would never get wet normally and causes him added work from wet fuse panels ect. We also have a drive on ramp for getting pickup undersides washed better with the hand operated steam cleaner/ pressure washer. I would never run my personal rig through the 4 sided hoop washer at work after seeing what it does with our work pickup fleet.

A 1/4 inch of rain
That's how it goes, can't say we were any different when I was still farming.
-
A 1/4 inch of rain
At work it is a daily ordeal, our clay I think is about the slickest and stickiest material on the planet when wet. The last 10 years the gravel road conditions have only gotten worse now that most farmers have gone to full sized semis and you know not a single one is legal weight either, the roads are showing this more and more every year.

A 1/4 inch of rain
Went to town for some groceries and a supper date with my lovely and while leaving the grocery store we had about an hours worth of sun just before sundown and caught this view of mother nature. Draught????? Not here.

A 1/4 inch of rain
OK folks I know over the years folks question others driving conditions and vehicle use ect. Well as some many Know I live in and work in the country so I drive 40 miles of gravel County roads daily 4-5 days a week. It has been raining here this week on and off and I just happened to have the camera in hand yesterday and snapped some pics of my DDer 2010 1500 hemi after running my usual daily work run after ONLY a 1/4 inch of rain. It gets way worse at times. I did require 4X4 in 2 mile long stretches where they are pulling shoulders back up to the road surface so there is a lot of dirt and grass on the road top making it really slippery. It is fairly clean in these pics, if it was a good rain there would be mud chunks on the hood and windshield and the front bumper would be covered in mud along with what you see here. This isn't bad at all even considering the rain washed of a lot of mud overnight before I snapped these pics. This is a normal look for it a lot of the time. Notice what has plopped off of it and has run off of it from just sitting in front of my house from the rain over night giving it a natural car wash.

Need some help for a buddy
Better check with the shop building the engine for warranty purposes they may have a different idea what they will allow for warranty on the engine.

Oxidation on 7 pin plug connector
I do the same thing and wind up having to use electrical cleaner anyhow as there ends up being too much dirt built up after die electric grease. I do both a couple times a year. Blow gun and electrical cleaner and reapply a bit of grease. But its not always a cure all still have a circuit on occasion that wants to be a pain, usually on the pontoon trailer more than any a lot of the time is seems the electric brake circuit on my gooseneck doesn't make ground on occasion too but after a few miles of bouncing down the road always seems to get the trick done.

ATF Fluid
There is a factory cooler line that has a temp sensor port built into it. Here is the Mopar part # 05011244AA, not sure if its still a good number, it was used on the early 2nd gens. Just need to dig out one of the rubber check balls from either the fitting on the cooler on the side of the block or the new rubber line so there isn't 2 of them probably wouldn't hurt just keeps the cooler circuit from draining back every time it is shut off. This is the converter outlet line the front one on the driver side of the tranny and is the most accurate place to measure tranny temps as this is the hottest oil in the system. Measuring oil temps in the pan is useless, by the time it shows hot in the pan you have already deep fried the tranny as that is the coldest oil in the system as it has just been dumped back there from the cooler circuit. If this line is no longer available I know DTT used to offer a replacement line with the same setup only in a higher quality line / hose. Here is a link with pictures of the line. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/190281-Trans-Coolent-Line-05011244AA

Can all 4 gauge dash boards be set to show different parameters on each of the dashboard layouts so one could toggle through and see many different parameters?
