  1. i would test prior to install if possible also. A lot of "new" alternators these days are bad off the shelf. But yes new alternator time.
  2. There should be a ball on both. I would assume it would be in the oil pan, but if you don't find it there it is teardown time.
  3. yep[ if you didn't see any AC voltage then either your range is set wrong on the MM or your MM can't read ac volts that low.
  4. the price difference is less than $40. My wife is sleeping so maybe I will place an order
  5. I couldn't find it. I will have to dig. found it Thanks tyler!
  6. agree'd we need to have a video for it.
  7. Get a good RMS multimeter and set it to ac on the scale .000 v. Then while the truck is running just connect the multimeter to the battery lead coming from the alternator and a ground and read how much AC noise is in your DC system. Mike, we really should break out an article for testing for AC noise.
  8. Humm I wonder why the scipod was using / 20 unless the ecm reads it differently then translates to the obd standard for the pcm / obd.
  9. I decided that I might as well go with a 100W panel just because the price difference really isn't much. Mounting will be mobile so I can throw it on the roof or lean it on a box on an extension chord. Father in law dropped off a generator that I am mulling over what to do with. it's a 1000W unit, about 69 DB and too loud for my liking. Too big to fit nice so I dunno. I might use it or give it back.
  10. Please point us to where you found the apps filter as a good thing as we need to take that down. I am guessing a old user recommend it without us seeing it and correcting it. AC noise generated by your alternator is causing these issues. When you increase load on your alternator, ruining ac or turning the stereo up, the issue gets worse. Now the problem is regardless of your issues your alternator is putting out AC noise all the time and that is RUINING all the computers on the truck. The noise filter is just covering up the issue and prevents you from noticing ( for the most part) and causes your truck computers to get beat to death from AC noise. The best way to fry an ECM / PCM / ABS module etc is to pump AC noise through them. Here is the article showing the diode pack being burnt up causing this Test your alterntor for AC noise and replace when it fails the test. Another thread showing more "weird" issues due to this same issue
  11. take the apps filter off and put it in the trash. Test for AC noise in your electric system using a multimeter set to AC at .000 scale.
  12. same noise with the edge on vs off?
  13. that's why I was curious if this was a semi common issue on front ABS trucks. seems like the natural procession of wear vs codes ya know?
  14. did that equation do anything?
  15. interesting. I wonder how common it is to see ABS issues on older bearings? Seems to me that once you start to get some fillings coming off the bearing your ABS sensor would start to loose it's ability to sense the tone wheel. However I am no expert on this. All the ABS systems I have worked with have had the tone wheel external to the bearing. I cannot think that if you use the right grease that it will cause issues in the tone wheel.
  16. Adding some Cars to the thread,
  17. is the tone wheel internal to the bearing? IE is the bearing sealed except for the ABS sensor?
  18. Its a little difficult if there are no codes to point to he vp. I would say you should work through all other things and rule out other things before moving to the VP44, but typically the last part you replaced is the one that is to blame when something happens. Verify all plugs are clean and seated well, verify that you get good fuel to the vp44 and fuel from the lines when cranking, Verify the overflow is working as expected ( we have an article for that) Check and tighten / clean all power and ground connections to the bat and block.
  19. I would guess you got a bad vp44 if it ran then stopped so shortly after replacing.
  20. mike, It occurs to me that the map sensor calculator in the scipod software was based on a late model truck What happens if you set your equation to (A-105)/20 ? 105 being the approx inverted atmospheric pressure.
  21. Don't crank for 3-5 times crank for 3-5 minutes.
