  1. for the torque converter alignment/bolts ?I just used a big flat head screw driver - worked pretty well from inspection port on bottomthen accessed the bolts from inspection port on passenger side
  2. Not sure there would be anything bad about it if it was tied off. the way some of the guys did it which I followed was the pvc with one male thread and one female and that way if you need to service or remove it you can just twist it and 'unthread it' and remove it.I did have a little trouble getting the thread started from the bottom - but a bit of fiddling and was all ok.The PVC will keep a solid open 'vent' out - no reason why a heater hose wouldn't but I guess it could pinch at sometime..
  3. Yeahsomeone said the 01 didn;t have the seat - its machined into the cylinder and thats where its 'seats'.something like thatwhich was making me thnk - what are chances valve is gone ?Anyway - not much more I can do - mechanic has it - and he is gonna check the lash adjustment I did (clearances), the rockers and so forth and then move down until he takes the head and gets to the valves etc I guess.
  4. Someone at CF said 2001 didn't have the valve seat ?? Wondering if worth doing a compression test prior to pulling the head ??? Any ideas of time this takes and approx costs at mechanic ??? I heard there is diff types of compression test also ..... ??? thoughts ?? Really don;t want to spend a $1000 doing head/valve work and find out its something else.
  5. Just cause she drives rough (heavy bounces/jarring) and I wanted to smooth out the ride as much as possible. So thought shocks and coils would be best way to do it.
  6. Sorry for posting yet another thread.Thinking since my shop is in truck, might get the suspension upgraded as this will be our daily driver soon should the engine/valves/head etc check out.Thinking new front Thuren coils (0-2") , and bilstein front and rear shocks.Think the coils are around $300 and the shocks around the same for all four. So $600 and then labour. What kind of difference would that make to a stock ride - I have NO idea. How noticeable ?
  7. cummins how'd ya go with the RV275's - any feedback ?? PM me where you bought them and how much also *thinking* about getting some ........... mainly cause mike runs them and likes them ..... and I don't want any more HP really than the edge ......... but since at 120k and head might be comming off might be a good time to get them ---------- Post added at 05:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:45 AM ---------- Anyone ? If I spent $300 on RV275's - would I think it was money well spent ? Opinions ?
  8. Hi mate Yes - it could have been that rather than the valve itelf - to be honest I didn't fully understand the issue exactly with the valve apart from that it was the exhaust valve If the seal or seat is bad - assume they need to be pulled and rebuilt/checked and clearances etc ? i.e - no point 2nd guessing mechanic in hope its just a valve adjustment issue or something more simple - and better to have him pull the valves and reseat and check head/cylinders whilst head is off ? thx
  9. Coolthank kinda makes sense in theory - no way I could do it though - maybe mechanic could. I guess if I am hearing the sound on the passenger side - it makes sense it could be related to exhaust valve. I guess the thing is though - if the valves weren't adjusted properly could it make that sound ? I am thinking not - as the valve chamber would still be 'sealed' right - just wouldn't be getting the best compression as valves would be off a little ? I could send that info to my mechanic but don't wanna #$#$! him off ............ was just wondering if its possible that if I had him re-adjust all the valves that might be the issue rather than this $1000 job ........ probably dreaming.
  10. Hey. Ok - took the truck to my diesel guy. He looked at it for about 3.8 seconds - and told me I wouldn;t like the answer. A damaged/faulty exhaust valve (or to that effect). Said they would need to pull the head and injectors and have the valves machined and reseated ~ $900-$1000 ---------- Post added 07-14-2010 at 04:51 AM ---------- Previous post was 07-13-2010 at 04:21 PM ---------- I was thinking about a few things (suprise) ........ let me know what you think 1) Any way to know if it is a burnt valve - rather than a bad adjustment ? I am just wondering if there is anyway me/mate did the adjustment wrong and there is no problem with the valve itself ? Doesn;t seem that hard - TDC and TDB and then 0.1 and 0.2 or whatever it is on mikes page with the feelers ??? Wouldn't want to waste a $1000 for no good reason. 2) If I get the valves redone - obviously have the head off - am considering having him check the condition of the engine (visual inspection) of heads/pistions etc. If all looks ok for 120k miles was considering new injectors as there would be no labor cost and that way would know they are new and done. What do you think ? Was thinking RV275's {or similar} like Mike - for around $300 new. Worth it ? thanks guys ....... just busted $10000 in 9 months - its been fun :banghead: Well at least my tires are ok.
  11. thanksnot sure why I couldn't find those threads - I remember both of them now.thanks for the video link.
  12. awesome Only thing to add was "I wish that was my truck" - hahah thx dude
  13. How hard is it to replace injectors ? Any writeups anywhere with pics ? Have looked both here and cumminsforum ........... Was thinking about the RV275 injectors from JKIDD ........ would these be the best for towing/daily driver with the extra spray. Don't really need any more power other than the edge - unless its for MPG etc. thx
  14. Sweet - no that made sense. Only question is - does it matter what ID tube you use ........ and can you connect it to the pvc pipe anyway you want as long as its a good seal ? (going the homemade way) ?
  15. Where do you hook up the mechnical gauge to measure oil pressure :shrug:Also ...... how much blowblack when the engine is hot ? I have almost none when cold ........... but once warm ...... can definately see it from the 'crankcase modification' running to bottom via pvc pipe - but how much is normal ?
  16. What ^^^^ LIveOak ^^^^ said.Sounds like some sort of restriction. I know some guys running bigger injectors that dont see that drop.On the AirDog you can replace the tension spring on the return port (I think) to increase your pressure ...... not sure about the FASS.The temporary mechnical guage in FRONT of the stock filter would show you if your getting the drop somwhere between the stock filter and the tank inlet.
  17. yeah - except the sound definately wasn;t there before - so kinda freaking me out. taking it to mechanic monday. Tried a stethoscope - hard to distinguish sounds. Closest sound I could find was when I had it on the injector lines when it pulses. But way to hard to tell if that was the same sound or just similar. Trucks killing me. Well - whadda-ya do. Mike/W+F - why do u guys have to live so friggin far away - considered a move to MO ? We have a good baseball team How about I just fly one of you out here for weekend an put you up in hotel and you just go over my truck ...... might even be cheaper for me :banghead:
  18. Not sure if you mentioned what year your EZ came from (your truck ??) Should be part # 30201 for 2001-2002 dodges only or these part numbers fro 1998.5 to 2002 OLD P/N’s: EZD1000 / EZD1000A / EZD1000B <<== older NEW P/N’s: 30200 / 30201 <==newer Asides that theres just a MAP and DataLink connector ...... so assuming its a 2nd Gen 24v not commonrail ? Then maybe try cleaning the MAP sensor (Mike has a link on this site somewhere - basically pull it out and clean it ) ...... not sure how you would test the datalink connector apart from maybe voltage supply. So then - maybe talk to edge - just call them and tell them you bought one a few years back ..... they seemed happy to help me even though I bought secondhand ...... manual http://www.edgeproducts.com/product_images/product_variation-user_manual-154.pdf
  19. thx mate Yeah - kinda got me stumped this sound ........ kinda worried it might be something serious in the block/cylinder itself - but probably jumping to conclusions Just bought a 'stethoscope' to see if it can help me locate the sound ...... all I know is what I sad above - loudest when you near the BHAF - comes through the line there, but not sure if injector, turbo or something more sinister If I can't locate it - might take it to the shop to see if they can ...... it never ends ---------- Post added at 02:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:01 PM ---------- just read your other bit so you have a low thumping noise with BHAF also ?? Thats interesting. Any ideas on cause ?? I was wondering if it could be related to the turbo - as I have taken out my silencer ring recently - a little more play/rattle ?? I will stick on the stock one and let you know if it goes for me too. Was just worried with all the issues/work I have completed on it recently it might be something more ..... Whats involved in a compression test ?? Easy enough to do yourself or better left to the experts ?
  20. Hey Hope every1 had a good 4th. OK - I put in the missing exhaust manifold bolt (top #6) and I also rechecked the valve clearances as per Mikes lash adjustment. All looks fine. I still have this sound. Its like a soft knocking that you can hear especially well if you put your ear against the BHAF. Valves ok, can;t see manifold cracks, turbo doesn't seem to have much play ......... running out of ideas ??? Could my injectors in anyway make that kind of sound ??? Is it worth chucking in some injector cleaner and if so what kind - seafoam ?? Kinda lost what to do next ......... thx ---------- Post added at 10:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:28 AM ---------- Tried to take a video - but the sound is so low that I can't pick it up on camera with the engine background noise ...... ---------- Post added at 11:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 AM ---------- Only other thing noticed if I take air intake off - and cover my hand over the plastic tube/elbow - the sound is basically gone ...... not sure if this is just because its no longer echoing but still there or something else ........ as soon as I remove my hand and allow it to suck air - sound is back
  21. Yeah - 12 6 top was the ones I meant ....... but 12 total plus the ones for the turbo (4). Seems like My#6 top one is missing - and the bottom one is also loose ........ hoping this is the cause of my 'echo' comming through my BHAF/elbow. Found a match at lowes - but guy said it wouldn't handle the heat on a manifold - I didn't think that would be right - but last thing I want is to fight with a broken bolt in the #6 port. So off to junk yard today and pick up some ...... gonna look around whilst I'm there and see whats what - looking for new grill also. Picked up a new polisher last week - gonna buff the heck out of my truck and see what happens - its almost 10 years old now - but hopefully put a bit of shine back into her. http://www.harborfreight.com/7-inch-variable-speed-polisher-sander-92623.html ---------- Post added at 11:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:18 AM ---------- mwaaa :banghead: ok - 3 parts stores, 2 junk yards and eventually got the bolt at the "stealers" for $14 (with spacer). The problem is - didn't fix my sound. Going to have to redo the valve-lash adjustment - see if anything loose. Any tips/ideas on how to check for a leak in the manifold ???? I guess I would have to pull it together with the turbo ? Wondering if there is a small leak/crack somewhere - either underneath or near that #6 since there was a missing bolt.
  22. Assuming there are 6 bolts to mount the manifold to the block ? If so - I am missing one ....... where do I get another - local parts store carry ? thanks ---------- Post added at 02:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:45 PM ---------- ok answer my own dumb question - yes it does and yes I am missing napa doesn't have .... checking o'reilly's
  23. <quote>Maybe this drain plug might be put on duty as target on the 200 meter range. </quote>It was worth reading:)
  24. cool - thanks - was curious beyond the lash adjustement as thats all I knew .thanks once again dude
  25. Hi mateno - i meant - how do you know if valve is 'bad'. And how do you fix/replace ? I can do the valve lash adjustment - but thats about it.
