  1. Have you noticed and fuel leakage, like may a small drip on the ground? A leak will allow air in the system and cause hard starting. I dont believe you can get the fuel hot enough in the injector lines for the fuel to vaporize. As far as peanut oil, I wouldnot have a clue.
  2. I just thought you were hanging out with Tammy Wynett and did'nt have any $$$$$$.
  3. The diesel kleen actually does the opposite of 2 cylce oil and is harder on the VP. I am going to need the expert on this to chime in with the info to explain it. I used DK for a while but never saw any benifit from it. Cetane booster actually takes away from the btu content of the fuel. I have a grasp of this but some of the other folks can explain it alot better than I.
  4. Sounds like you are well on your way. You might want to run you some 2 cycle oil in your fuel and help keep that new VP lubed and happy.
  5. The north is in the mountains. the southern end is in the foothill and the sand hills. Not to bad down on the south end.I gues I should pay more attenitionJohn. I did not realize you were from Charleston
  6. To mod or not to mod? It is purely up to the owner. With what I have done to mine I can see where it would get addicting to keep adding power. It is for the most part very easy to do. I did drive mine stock until the warranty expired for the same reason. I like what I have, but another 50hp, HMMM!!!!!! you never know.
  7. The Frantz is just a by pass filter and meant to be run in cojunction with the regular filter. Or am I misunderstanding what yall are saying?
  8. George would not be seeing hi temps for extended periods on this stretch of road. It is hilly but not mountanous. 1/2 mile would be a long pull and mostly 1/4 mile streches. Please correct me if I am wrong George, it has been a while since I have been down there. I live in Hickory NC and go to Columbia and down 26 any time I head south. Now I26 north into Asheville is a differant story.
  9. They are adressing you, George. Did not mean ot get in the middle of that and confuse anyone. Just wanted them to know that stretch of road is a little hilly but not like what some of these guys encounter. What you experienced doesnot sound out of the ordinary to me. But I am a manual and not an auto. Also an 02 and not an 06. The Banks system on my truck help manage my EGT's by defueling and i might have seen mine hit 1300 once since its been on. I probably see at worst on that stretch of road 1100 to 1150.
  10. huh? --- Update to the previous post... There is one thing that strectch of road does not have and that a 7% grade. 3 to 4% at the worst and not alot of that. Nothing especially long either.
  11. I have driven that highway a few times with my rv. I was grossing about 20k on the old rv and 23k on the new one. I believe there are a few places I might had to down shift to 5th but for the most part I just cruise in 6th.Matter of fact I bought this truck in Charleston SC on a trip up 95 when the V10 blew up.

98 is right about the intank pump. DO NOT let them install one. For what I paid for one several years ago I could have installed a top of the line lift pump and had money left over. The in tank pump is junk and unless dodge has chnaged that is the only option they will consider.

Welcome to the site. While the list of items above can be quite expensive, if you are handy with the wrenches most of the items are not hard to do yourself and save some $$$$.
  14. I had a Glowshift fo my first fuel prssesure gauge and it did the same thing as yours. Worked fine for a while and then just pegged out. The sender got beat to death by the VP. I did not have it installed with anything to isolate it from the water hammer affect of the vp pulsing. Mike has a good article about this but I cant seem to find it. Hopefully he will help us with that. I have a new Isspro connected thru a needle vavle to isolate it form this and it is working fine. Replacing the lift pump will be a good idea and hopefully the VP will come back. When my lift pump went, the vp lasted another 70k miles. That is not always the case but there is hope.Welcome to the family, by the way.If you go to the user cp and fill out your signature with the info on your truck it will help in the future.
  15. frantz is one I do belive ther is another. http://www.frantzoil.com/home.html
  16. I changed mine at 225k, but probably should have done it at 200k. I tw heavy but less than 5k a year and the truck weighs around7.5k in most driving situations. stock tires, it came with 265's not 245's. I put Moog in mine. Iam gonna be ticked off if Mike's out last mine.
  17. As I remeber mine only did it out on the highway cruising in 5th or 6th, depending on whether I was towing or not. It would do it holding steady throttle or heavy throttle. Just like you had a switch you could flip on and off, just a split second. Might go for month and not do it and then do it several days in a row. Never a stutter just once then again a few minutes or longer later it would do it a gain. I did experience some cutting out or stutter if I left a fuel filter in to long. I changed the filter and it went a way. All of this on mine occurred with the oe clutch, the Banks system and I never felt it was the clutch slipping. No rpm change, but the event would be so quick I am not sure anything would have a chance to change. Just seems like it would be hard for the clutch to slip for a split second and re engage that quikly without some normal sign of it slipping, like an rpm increase. I just changed the oe clutch about a year ago and it still was not worn out and the bucking went away completly with the vp install a little over 2 years ago. The AD went on 1 year ago. My pump is tapped also. --- Update to the previous post... http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/490877-random-cutting-out.html here is another thread on the same thing
  18. I second that. They are a good source for parts, brand names and prices. They have cheap parts also some look them over good. It all depends on what you want.
  19. I looked at the FSM and it called for GL5 80w 90 unless the truck was going to be used for heavy dutyor trailer tow. For that it said GL5 75w 140 synthetic. I dont remember what the owner manual said. It also called out GL5 75w 140 synthetic for the front axle.I definately dont remember the front being callled out that way. I thought it called for 75w 90.
  20. Welcome sir. Right partial to the 02's my self.
  21. How about if youpull heavy but not alot? Less than 5k a year.
  22. Yes it did. But as i remember it was some what reduced after I installed a booster pump to get my fuel pressure up from the in tank one dodge installed after the oe failure. The intank was only giving me 1/2 psi at wot about a year after install. I had her in a shop trying to figure out what was causing it. I also had dead pedal issues(driving underload and the engine would go to idle with no throttle response. had to resart to get throttle response). The higher fuel pressure helped with both problems but did not eliminate them completely. Since the new VP and lift pump the issues have dissapeared completely. I am thinking the low lift pump pressure was the original cause but had already damaged the vp to where a new lift pump would not over come the problem now in the vp. Understand at this time(5years ago) i did not know squat about these trucks fuel supply problems or electronics. Shoot I am still learning. As far as the thread you referenced,my problem was pretty much like Sooter's, 5th and 6th gear under load and it would do it. I never paid any attention to boost pressure when it happened, but it would happen on the highway cruising empty or under load. More so under load as i remember. As far as what BlkRam1 states, I only had the Banks stinger plus on mine with a booster pump and stock injectors. The only extra fuel i could have been getting would have been thru the Banks. Maybe the IAT fooler will help. I dont know enough about them to have any opinion.
  23. Welcome. I would not let the milage worry you, I am at 255k and she runs better than ever.
  24. I dont know alot about the transfere case, but it sounds like the chain in it is banging around. Saw a few posts on here lately.
