trreed's upgrade thread
Man, I have a friend who follows the Sloppy Mechanics Facebook page and tells me one-off ideas. Like an anti-lag device between shifts using air. Didn’t expect to find that stuff here! And I'm worried that I’m just sloppy enough to try some of these.

WOT to run the horn. Hmmmm. The whole point of compounds is to be sure the air goes in the engine!

I have a couple road trips ahead of me to mess with timing and fuel curves. Biggest issue I’m facing is wind on the flatlands and temperatures. Are you sure you don’t want to redo your differential? It’s great fun.

Sounds like you need some wider tires Mike! I’ve got some timing adjustments to do yet in preparation of winter blend and also some adjustments to my ‘p-pump’ tune so it spools quicker

Just in case anyone is curious, the pickup has been trouble free since the differential. Just ate a u-joint the other week, but that’s not much. Also. VP Max boots are very good at what they do. Didn’t blow off under this pressure

Well the Order is in
15%! Wow. I’m glad my new car is registered in unincorporated Jefferson County. I knew CO was bad on vehicle taxes but damn.

Quadzilla and Gauges
I also run two sets. The pillar pod has basic boost, egt, and fuel pressure, so I don’t use the quadzilla to monitor those at all. Only exception to that is I have two egt probes installed so I can still use the turbo timer. Occasionally I will compare the analog reading to the quadzilla for accuracy reasons, but usually I use the quad for the more specialized gauges.

Everyone post a picture of your truck!
@Dieselfuture 80 and 35, from Omaha to Albert Lea. Didn’t stray off the highway at all, so I missed your fence

Everyone post a picture of your truck!
All it needs is a 540 rpm PTO attachment and it’s be cutting hay faster than the tractor. I kept an eye out for you when I drove through Iowa yesterday.... no such luck

Lookin to hit 600hp
That’s barely gonna do it with the 66. Whatever Bayes told you on your Facebook post is the way you should go. Compounds are the best btw

VP44 Keyway Dropped into Gear Case
I'm pretty sure he had the cover off looking for the keyway when the teeth got misaligned. People used to bump their cam by one tooth, giving about 5* advancement on the valves and VP. They used to swear by it.

VP44 Keyway Dropped into Gear Case
There are marks on the cam and pump gears for alignment purposes. The only code that would really be set by a misaligned gear set is a cam code, because the ecm compares the internal VP position sensor to the cam position sensor. The VP should be able to adjust timing back down to its specified range if the teeth were off. The 0216 code spells a dead pump to me

VP44 Keyway Dropped into Gear Case
For some reason the 24 valves never really had the KDP issue. There are a couple cases reported. The updated cases are sprinkled thoughout the VP run, as with most of the Rams at the time, there was a goofy selection of parts going on.

Turbo moaning with boost
There is. It’s called large injectors and a light foot. The 6 x 0.013’s did the most. Dropped from 10 psi cruise to 4-5. A quarter of the noise.

Turbo moaning with boost
Maybe you guys are on to something with quiet singles. I had a girl in the pickup a while back who said she loved compounds because “the more turbo whistle the better”. 10 miles later she was making me drive with a light foot cause it was too loud. There wasn’t a second date.

Do you have a silencer ring in there?

Turbo moaning with boost
Man, some days I wish I had a quiet single. Especially after longer trips. With the smaller injectors, I used to run 10 psi cruising. Like this, but for 13 hours. https://youtu.be/suiMU-fTFK0 Could always be worse! Thankfully the large injectors dropped the boost down to a manageable 4-6 psi. Easily covered by the radio.

Check for exhaust leaks. Missing manifold bolts, cracked manifold, or cracked turbine housing. Any leak will cause an abnormal sound and lag.

New Tire Size found 235's to 245's
Heh. I'm making a mental joke right now.
