Silly question...
I neglected to mention that one must be VERY gentle using compressed air on the Outerwares prefilters.

Socialism- A Lethal Experiment
I am not sure you realize exactly what is taking place. The neo-statist progressives ARE going to pass ObamaCare one way or another. It may not pass like originally planned. Perhaps in small pieces or as executive orders, or "somethings on the side". This video pretty much sums up the arrogant, self righteous, elitist, "I know what's best for you & will shove down your throat if you don't like it" mentality the progressives function under: Remember........this is for your own good.

Socialism- A Lethal Experiment
Scott Brown is NO conservative but he is a small bit better than Martha Coakley. The problem is that both the Democrat and Republican party are two wings of the neo-statist Progressive movement. BOTH parties must be purged from the system.

Socialism- A Lethal Experiment
Sorry ISX. NOT this time.......it ain't gonna happen. As much and as desperately as I want and wish for our once great nation to turn itself around and right the ship of state.......it ain't gonna happen this time. The top 40% of tax payers pay over 90% of taxes. Estate/inheritance taxes destroy family farms, private forestry, and small businesses by the 1,000's EVERY YEAR. Property taxes drain unbelieveable amounts of wealth from those who work their collective asses off to own property, homes, and land. On average for those who DO pay taxes.....they pay about 75% of their income in various federal, state, and local income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, special fee taxes, permit taxes, traffic fine taxes, and huge sums of money spent on lawyers fee to defend themselves against frivolous charges made by an out of control, militarized police state government. In addition to this, we pay on average about 30% more for goods and services because of ridiculous bureaucratic government mandated rules and regulations. In additon to the greavous and immoral attrocities of taxation, our government at the state and federal level has continuously worked to disarm and subdue us all with the intent of making us ALL weak, compliant, and dependent sheep. As a result of neo-statist/progressive democrate AND republican parties, our government as metastisized into a leviathon proportioned cancerous tumor of a violent, domestic terrorist, militarized police state with a machine gun in one hand and a Nanny's *** in the other to feed tax grazing, sheeple who have through generations become dependent social and tax leaches who live out of their mailbox. The concept and principles of freedom, liberty, and natural law are a TOTAL alien and unheard of idea to the vast majority of the sheeple in America today. The concept of the fruits of ones labor being their PRIVATE PROPERTY is gone in all but a few Americans. Unless and until WE as a nation of turn the tide and the ship of state around to go back to repair and correct the immoral and unconstitutional attrocities put in place at the turn of the last century & onward such as the 16th amendment, the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, and the Social Security Act of 1935, we as a nation will never be able to pull ourselves out of the preverbial hole we allowed to be dug by progressivist traitors. That most recent immoral and unconstitutional attrocity heaped on us is called the USA Patriot Act which pretty much shreds what little is left of our constitution. The founding fathers created the federal government and severely limited and restrained it STRICTLY for the purpose of protecting our individual natural born rights and constitutional freedoms and liberties that are now all but gone. Freedom is NOT free and once it is gone, it is nearly impossible to regain it again. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. For those who have an interest to learn more: http://sipseystreetirregulars.blogspot.com/ http://westernrifleshooters.blogspot.com/search?q= http://freedominourtime.blogspot.com/ http://waronguns.blogspot.com/ http://www.survivalblog.com/ The national debt which a LONG line of traitors have run up is all but impossible to repay now: http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/it-is-now-mathematically-impossible-to-pay-off-the-u-s-national-debt Take a look at what each tax payer would have to pay to cover the national debt........over $113,000 per tax payer to cover the current national debt.......with unfunded liabilities such as SS, Medicare, and other programs that figure rises to over $347,000 per tax payer. http://www.usdebtclock.org/ I for one have had enough of Big Brother and Big Government. How to restore and return to the society and government the founding fathers invisioned will be very difficult if not nearly impossible. Please excuse the rant but time is short and few have ANY idea of what is coming. Be ready.

Silly question...
I just blow the dust off with a little compressed air. I figure it will get more wear and tear taking it off and reinstalling it to clean it. Mine is still on the same filter after about 2 years.
-
What EGT's do you all run?
I see about 1250 - 1275 at around 32 - 34 lbs. boost depending upon what gear I am in. I cannot hold that much boost or power in 6th and sometimes in 5th gear pulling much if any load as it will cause the clutch to slip. I will be installing a SB clutch in the near future.

Made out like a fat rat at Tractor Supply Center on motor oil
Today I went to Tractor Supply Center to pickup some scratch feed for the chickens and notice they had their "Travelers" house brand 15W-40 Diesel Heavy Duty Motor Oil in the 2 1/2 gallon containers on the clearance shelf for $14.99. By my stubby pencil math, that comes to a $1.49 per quart. They had 9 2 1/2 gallon containers left on the shelf. Yours truly scarfed em all! I think 22.5 gallons of oil should hold me for awhile.

Tire size question
You can mount 315/75R-16's on the OEM wheels but there will be issues with lower track bar rubbing and interference making moderately sharp turns. A front suspension leveling kit may help this somewhat. I am currently running BF Goodrich 295/75R-16 All Terrain T/A KO's. These tires will still rub the lower track bar on very sharp turns but not nearly as bad and in my opinion are about the largest I would recommend mounting on a stock truck with stock wheels. These tires are VERY quiet with respect to tread singing road noise and they are a very good compromise tire for a combination of good handing, mud, off road and snow, not to mention weight rating. These by FAR have been the BEST tires I have purchased. I have them on both of our trucks. About the only drawback I would mention is that if you tow a heavy trailer or other load, you will find that the much larger than stock OEM tire diameter will have you shifting between 5th and 6th gear looking for the sweet spot. I purchased mine at Walmart and got the road hazard warranty. http://www.walmart.com/ip/All-Terrain-T-A-KO/12527061 I am off road a good bit and have had a couple of bad experiences with stone cuts in the tread leaving with a flat tire and crappy mud performance with the Walmart Liberator 285/75R-16 tires. 285's in most cases will mount up on OEM wheels without any rubbing issues.

FASS DDRP: Why not????
Let me add my welcome as well.

FASS DDRP: Why not????
My comments were aimed at the folks using just the OEM or after market lift pumps but still utilizing the OEM fuel pickup basket. The Air Dog and FASS as far as I know are protected by their own filter and inlet screen. I am running an Airtex pump on the wife's truck without a formal prefilter but still using the OEM fuel pickup basket. This setup seems to be working well but I am finding that I use about twice as many of the Balwin fuel filters as I did the Fleetguard. I never realized how much difference 3 microns could make in the amount of contaminants trapped in a filter.
-
FASS DDRP: Why not????
Perhaps I am missing the point but there is a very fine mesh fabric filter material that the stock OEM fuel pickup basket draws fuel through. Anything that is small enough to get through the fabic prefilter in my opinion would be of no consequense to the lift pump.

and now i realize why so many of you gave up on CF.......
That bunch of whackjobs reads the PM's their member send. That is flat out pathetic.

and now i realize why so many of you gave up on CF.......
Well.....in my humble opinion, the worst website for TOTAL JERK OFF moderators and smartass trouble makers is Diesel Truck Resource. The website is run by a bunch of corrupt cops suffering from accute Napoleanic ego personality disorder. I dropped them like a steaming pile of bovine nutrient residue. I like this website and TDR. I flat out refuse to give ANY of my business or net bandwidth to DTR. Lary Ellis is a full blown idiot. He disabled my account and when I ask him about why he did it.........then he sends me a happy birthday email and when I reply and as why he cannot explain why or even tell me what if ANYTHING I did wrong. What an incompetent jerk.

Another thing I should have pointed out is that the Bully Dog Flow-MaX was probably not the best choice of lift pump to install. If I understand this operation of this lift pump correctly, it will provide up to 165 gallons per hour at 10 psi. 10 psi is a ablsolute, ragged, botton dollar minimum pressure for the VP-44 to operate at according to the Dodge operator's manual. In reality this pressure is not enough, especially for an engine with any modifications. 15-20 psi is the real world proper operating pressure in my opinion. Do you have gauges installed? If so, what fuel pressure is this lift pump providing? Even with a pump that makes proper pressure and volume, trying to push fuel through the banjo fittings is an up hill battle. The OEM fuel lines and fittings are just too small and will cause fuel starvation under load.

P1689 = No Communication Between ECM & Injection Pump Module P1693 = DTC Detected In ECM Or PCM I would try unplugging the Bully Dog Outlook PE and go back to stock configuration and observe if this resolves the problem. If this does resolve the problem, there may indeed be a problem with the Bully Dog. If not, this could indicate a problem with the VP-44 or the ECM. Check your plug connections again to ensure you have a definite solid connection. Also check for any possible bent pins. Fill out your truck profile so we can get a better idea of what you are running, mods, etc.

I am not much if any closer than you Mike. Real sorry to hear the MS is getting worse Russ.

and now i realize why so many of you gave up on CF.......
cumns2500, For future reference, the stock lift pump and in some cases even the Air Dog or FASS cannot and will not always properly purge the fuel filter cannist of the air pocket that forms after replacing the fuel filter. The fuel filter cannist must either be manually refilled or you can purge the cannist by using the lift pump in a different fashion. I showed my wife how to do this on her truck in the event she ever had to replace the fuel filter. Open fuel filter cannister lid. Open drain valve and drain fuel. Remove cannister lid with fuel filter attached. (be sure to lay rags over the area you will move the fuel soaked filter over so as not to make a mess) VERY carefully wipe out and inspect the WIF sensor with a lint free rag. (not a paper towel or any other rag that can leave lint or other residue) Blow out fuel cannister with high pressure compressed air. Remove old fuel filter from cannister top Remove old o-rinf from cannister top Install new o-ring and fuel filter on cannister top. Close fuel cannister drain valve Install cannister top with new fuel fitler and o-ring but only thread the cannister top down 2 or 3 turns. (enough to hold the cannister top on under pressure but loose enough to allow any air to escape. Lay rags on top of starter to absorb any fuel that dribbles down on it. Bump starter but do NOT start engine. Lister for lift pump to cycle for 20 seconds. Watch fuel cannister top for steady flow of fuel coming out around cannister top threads. Turn ignition key switch off. Torque fuel cannister top down to 27 ft. lbs. being very careful to ensure the o-ring seal does not get pinched. (I'm going from memory so double check my numbers) Clean up underhood area and remove all rags. Fire up engine. This method is not neatest way and spills a little bit of fuel but it is a sure fire way to ensure the fuel cannister and fuel system are properly primed after replacing the fuel filter.

Newbie about to make the Diesel plunge!
Only way to tell for sure is to read the article and crawl up under the engine compartment and have a look. Some trucks got them and some did not.

Newbie about to make the Diesel plunge!
I was hoping this would not be the case. The in tank lift pump is wholely inadequate for pretty much any application. It is nominally acceptable for a purely stock engine. If you intend to make any performance mods, you will have to by pass or replace the intank pump with a better lift pump. As already mentioned, I would strongly recommend installing a set of gauges so you can monitor at least fuel pressure and have the other gauges in place for when and if you decide to add performance mods.
-
Safe fuel pressure
I am going to have to disagree with the poll and the premise of the question it poses. 10 psi, is the ragged, rock bottom, unsatisfactory minimum to get by. The VP-44 can fuction adequate with this inadequate fuel pressure the the fuel return valve is not going to open allowing any excess fuel to return to the tank and thus aid in the absolutely essential task of cooling the VP-44. In my opinion, 15 psi is the minimum adequate fuel pressure. This not only provides full fuel for engine operation but also provides adequate cooling and lubrication of the injector pump.

Newbie about to make the Diesel plunge!
Was this "recall" for installing an in tank lift pump?

Newbie about to make the Diesel plunge!
The timing cover alignment dowel pin issue was on 12 valve engines but you need to make sure the engine is NOT a 53 block. Not all 53 blocks crack but more than a few have. http://www.stamey.info/Truck/Cummins53BlockFAQ.htm VERY expensive to repair.

Newbie about to make the Diesel plunge!
Previous trucks with the 5 speed up to but not including 2000 models had the "5th gear nut" issue in which the 5th gear nut would come loose and damage the transmission. Your truck should be OK in that respect since the 2000's came out with the upgraded transmissions.

FASS DDRP: Why not????
Is the fuel filter a new filter? A restricted fuel filter can cause low pressure like this.

multiple codes
The chance of all of these sensors going bad at once is slim to near impossible. I suggest you remove, clean, reconnect and spray with a a good corrosion preventative ALL of the ground connections in the system harness including the batteries. I would also check each battery with a hydrometer. Were these batteries replaced as a pair or individually? I think you have some electrical gremlins somewhere. I would be interested as to why the original engine was replace too???
