grid heaters not working
Those grid heaters are throwing me for a loop. I am working on an isolated setup and went out and checked everything and here is what I figured out. With the engine off, BOTH wires (green and orange/yellow) are negative. I can put it on resistance and there is no resistance between the green and orange/yellow when the relays are not on, key on or off. When the grids turn on, it makes the GREEN one a positive and that is what energizes the coil. Any time the grids are off, everything is a negative. Sorry for messing up. :banghead:

Digital EGT module thinger
Yeah I didn't even see everything else it would do. I read a couple forums about it and they all say they love it and it is dead on. They said some "old version" wasn't very good but the one they are selling now is supposedly as fancy as it gets. The one on their site is $50, it should pick up my stock EGT probe. Mine goes down to 0F but the gauge needle stops at like 200F. I watched a youtube of it and the refresh rate seems to be half a second. I can turn it into eye candy That thing would be awesome if I could get it to turn water injection on!

Digital EGT module thinger
Has anyone ever seen/used one of these? I'm thinking of getting it. Might have enough pocket change laying around. My autometer one is a piece of crap and I don't think it even reads under 200F. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DIGITAL-EGT-THERMOMETER-PYROMETER-W-PROBE-NPT-/200479992542?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ead89eade http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=19&zenid=8e1935c848838db60b048b3aad855430

Weekend Riding
I've seen all the hills in the pics you have. I want to ride up the side of those mountains. I saw a few things on TV of these 100 mile or so runs with fueling checkpoints where you just fly through the woods and mountains and stuff, think that was in Colorado.

2 stroke is a drug And how is it you get 18 unloaded yet I am "about as good as my 8x8x2 of firewood on the trailer and the 1 cord on the bed"... that would mean you get better than 17.25 loaded and yet only 18 unloaded? So with alllll that wood, you see less than .75mpg difference.

common - u serious ?
How come all you guys got bucking/missing/.. issues His batteries are brand new, remember he changed them out when it started stalling and it fixed it (till it got cold). Cables and everything looked good.

The guy we ride with has a camper like yours, well pretty identical really. I want to pull it and see what I get. He pulls it with a 2005 F250 with the 5.4 in it... Can you say 5mpg? He has it to the floor the entire time just to get anywhere. Hopefully he will trade me trailers next time. --- Update to the previous post... Put a billboard in front of your firewood, then we will compare My ford would pull 5000lbs of crap on a flatbed easily, but it topped out at 60 with the other trailer, if I let it go into OD I ended up losing speed. Right now I am trying to beat Dorkweed's mileage, he seems to be beating me Maybe I need propane injection or something and hide the tank so you guys don't know I am using it lol

dash reading no bus
That A-pillar wire was probably for visor light, dome light, something up there. I would just go through all the wires under the steering column again to make sure they are all connected. Make sure the negative wires are all connected too.

I thought I was doing good, then you beat me with your numbers Yes get some pics up!

A brand new dmax with the allison and all that stuff got 12.5 pulling that trailer to wyoming a few weeks ago, and that was without anything in the trailer so it was 1000lbs less.

MPG Report
Topped it off today and I thought it would only be 10mpg based on how I was driving. There were several long steep hills lasting maybe 1/2-3/4 of a mile and I would hold it at 65-70. I went that fast the entire way there and back. The A/C was also on full blast for the duration of the trip. That should have yielded me about 21-22mpg unloaded. This tank was with the trailer on it the whole time, did a lot of miles around jefferson city to go shopping (sisters bday). Ended up being right at 500.6 miles at the gas station and 29.013 gallons means 17.25 mpg. Sooo I'm very amazed. The trailer only weighs about 4000 but the billboard effect really loads it down. I had a quart of 2 stroke in that tank. http://forum.mopar1973man.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=210

Interesting EGT's
I need to test mine because I swear it as a 3GSK in it. I just don't know if anyone ever swapped out the springs and don't know any way to check other than a spring compressor. Never had any issues though so , wait till one arises I guess.

Weekend Riding
There was one kid from school who wanted to see if he could outrun me, so I let him in front at first and he would constantly look back and see that I was still 10ft away. He was sliding around corners on 2 wheels as fast as he could and eventually rolled it. Then I got in front of him and the only way he was able to keep up was on the horseshoe curves he would just go straight (from connect the ends of the horseshoe). Then towards the end, he had a whole wheel just fall off.

Weekend Riding
That would be a blast. I go to a lot of poker enduros and they are always so short (~10 miles) so I can usually make 5 laps in the 4 hours they give is. I always end up behind 4 wheelers or something so the laps usually take around 30-40 min. I can do it in 15-20 if everyone gets out of my way Most of the time I just like to watch the person in front of me try and get up a hill full of rocks lol

Oil Pressure Guage
The easiest place is probably the port on top of the oil filter (the unused one, there are 2 up there). It is 1/8 NPT. You can see the smallest braided line is actually for a bypass filter, if you don't have a bypass there will just be a plug there, perfect for a gauge. Yours will be a little different being a 24V but still the same setup.Another option is right next to the stock oil pressure sender (green circle). Like you could take the plug out of the red circle part and tap into that. Hope Smokeythedodge doesn't mind me using his pic

Weekend Riding
I would probably end up freezing to death I don't like jumping at all. I can do it but I absolutely love racing through the woods. Only problem is that I don't think you can ever make money off of it. The motocross stuff and all that (jumping) you make a ton but when have you ever heard of a guy making a ton off hare scrambles and enduros.. You can't really have a crowd watch a trail ride. I went 60 miles Saturday. Somehow I have gone 2000 miles since I owned it, maybe 4 years. Doesn't sound like much but I don't get to ride it very often so it usually ends up being 50 miles a day.

ohhh nooooo!!! my VP44....WHYYYYYY!!!
I think it was John telling me that you can actually come out with a pretty low amount. Think of all the people with these dead VP's...Do you really think someone will pass up the one you take off that still works fine if you sell it for $7-800? I guess a lot of the other parts can be swapped and resold also and ends up only costing you ~$1000. A used p-pump can be found off wrecked trucks.. So it can be done for a reasonable price but I'm still not sold on it.

Interesting EGT's
I'm topping off tomorrow, then I will have the numbers. I ran 2 stroke for the first time in a while for this tank too.. Should be good. I didn't notice anything at all with engine temps. I used to be paranoid thinking I might get into some traffic jam but it has become obvious that the only time the engine and A/C needs it is under 10mph, maybe even 5mph. I turn the A/C off at stoplights since everything up there just heats up with no air going through it, but you have to sit there a long time for the engine to start heating up. It was 85F coming home and I was running around Jefferson City with the trailer, up short steep hills, stop signs, stop lights, never heated up. That shroud seems to block flow and you only benefit from that shroud when the fan is actually engaged from what I can tell.

I think it bucked once from what he was telling me. He says "bucking" in this post though. So is it constant or just once every so often?

Weekend Riding
I went to St. Joe State Park Friday afternoon and got back a couple hours ago. I wanted to get some video of it last time but the usual time that we go is on labor day and our whole family goes and it is just too huge of ordeal to try and stop the show to go out video taping. So we went this time just me, parents, and this other guy and his wife. That guy ended up breaking his shifter off so he was done Saturday afternoon, luckily he had 4-wheelers to run around on. But this is what I was able to compile. The hills are a lot steeper than the cam seems to depict. That last hill is straight up and going fast up them is kinda easy so I figured I would go slow, I shoulda known that would happen. You can't see it cause my dad kinda stopped looking at the cam to watch the show but my bike was vertical and I can't remember if I threw it to the side before falling down the hill or what. I can barely walk on the side of that hill without sliding down it. I might just use a tripod next time, be more reliable at catching the action :lol:The hydroplaning part is really fun when you look down and see 20 four-wheelers sitting next to that waterhole as they usually do, then I come flying by and they never know what to think of it.

Interesting EGT's
Maybe, but they overbuilt them enough that they can handle up to ~45psi without any issues. You would need a different turbo to reliably do 45 but even mine has seen over 40 when I was messing with the wastegate. I just went on a 400 mile trip to St. Joe State Park with the trailer and all and I was in a hurry to get there and ride so I was doing around 65-70 the entire way. I never saw the EGT's get above 1000. They would hover right under 1000 though. Pretty amazing since there are several very long steep (maybe 5-7% grade) hills down towards rolla that I was keeping it at 65 on. Boost was around 20psi on those hills. I drove like that all the way there and all the way back. This will actually be the first tank I have done that is with only the trailer, so I can finally see what I get driving like that and pulling it around.

grid heaters not working
The operation of them is kinda weird. Mine works by actually controlling the negative (green) wire. The orange and yellow have a constant 12v positive any time the key is on and it energizes the relay coil by switching the negatives on and off. I actually just figured this out a week ago. I thought by tieing the 2 positives for the relays together, it would make both grids turn on all the time, not the case. They still work exactly the same. So the switch actually works like it should, though I really wanted it to turn both grids on every time it cycled, so I need to tie the negatives together. With the engine off, the ECM defaults to grounding the relays to negative. I can put a positive jumper wire onto the relays and they will turn on. But if the key is on, it opens the negative source so I have to put the jumper wire on the negative rather than the positive (since it will be constant positive if the key is on).So, you can do like Mike said and check for codes, or you can just leave the truck off and run a jumper wire from a positive source to one of contacting bolt things that the yellow or orange wire caps go on to. You will hear them click, if you are deaf you can use a volt meter on the battery and obviously you can watch the voltage plummet. Test both of them. Most likely something will not work, otherwise you have ECM issues. Check continuity between the positive terminal of the battery and the 2 terminals of the relays that connect directly to the battery terminal. If they are infinite, the fuses are shot.

Swap Autometer gauges for Glow Shift ones???
Gauges are most accurate when they are reading in the middle of the sweep. Since yours looks like it comes to life at 10psi and barely goes up to get to 20psi, I would be really weary of that. Try to get one that tops out at maybe 25psi so that the middle is ~15.

driveline growl/noise
The machine shop I worked in could have stayed afloat by working on just 2nd gen dodge cardan joints.. Nobody greases them and then they go out quickly. I would definitely check it out.
