  1. A jake brake allows compression to happen but then it releases it before the compression can push the piston back down. When you let off (no combustion), this compression and decompression (piston going back down) is basically just a spring. Power is lost and then recaptured (not 100% efficient but close enough). The 3 cylinder high idle simple turns 3 pistons' injectors off. The valves are not capable of being disabled on these trucks. It WOULD be a lot better if they were able to act like jake brakes. If the 3 dead pistons opened the valves at TDC so that the power lost would remain lost, then it would drag the engine way down and the 3 working pistons would have to work harder. Mike uses his exhaust brake to accomplish the same thing. You can see the results near the bottom of the page (table). http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/26-engine-systems/51-high-idle-mod
  2. ..you go to someone else's house and add kindling to the gas stovetop before you try and light it.
  3. Shopping online has a lot of benefits. Some sites are a little sketchy as in they may not give enough details to narrow it down to exactly what you want, but for the most part you can figure it out. Thing is, you can get up to 20% cash back if you buy it with cash back credit cards.. I recently cashed in all my rewards over the past year and got $620 back. Its the same money as you spend regularly, you just use a credit card instead. As long as you pay it off every month, it doesn't cost you a dime, plus makes you a lot of money. I recently applied for penfed credit card which gives you 5% cash back on gas year round with no limits. Getting off track. Anyways I always aim for online. It ships to my door which saves me a ton. I bought a 100ft ethernet cable at staples a couple months ago for $80. It's $20 online, free shipping. I used at least 2 gallons getting it so theres another $6. Plus you only get like 1% cash back. Bing is good for some things and bad for others. It likes to be "too" smart and narrow results to things you don't want. Google is really dumb in that aspect so you get anything and everything which is usually what I want since some terms I search for apply to something that is hardly covered. Like uhhhhh old engine model numbers....bing will throw everything out and show you only things recent or something, google shows everything which you can quickly scan through and find the one in a million website that applies to what you wanted.
  4. Twice? Here's the problem with what stodg said. I70 ends in utah and goes straight east on to the east coast... Nowhere near whatever that city is. It's I-90..

I don't know who he is so I don't get it.
  6. I'd really like to see a video of a cold start then the sound when hitting the switch..
  7. My brother won't go on trips with me anymore for that reason. Denver is 720 miles from my house and he wanted to get a truck bed there. I filled up here and never stopped until we got there. Then we went to NY another time and on the way back I did the same thing. He seems to think he can't tell me he has to eat something or go to the bathroom. He's lucky I didn't drive 55mph. I have seen over 900 miles going that speed when I was testing for mileage. 27mpg x 35 gallons is 945 miles. He can bring a catheter.
  8. I'm thinking more along the lines of drilling and tapping the stud the cable slides over and the put a bolt with a big washer there... Use allen bolts or something the thieves are too cheap to have. Torx!

There was a poker enduro last sunday and it was nothing but leaves everywhere with trees and huge rocks underneath. I would try and pass people hit all this crap or completely spin out on the leaves going up hills. BUTTTTT! I have become very good at jumping off the bike at the last minute. So I watched the bike fall at least 4 times. I always stood next to it and watched lol. My tire is also bald, I like being able to slide around corners so the balder it is the better, just doesn't work on leaves, at ALL. But I never had anyone pass me.........that I didn't pass back. One guy is really fast and passed me since I was hitting all the rocks, clearing the path for him. Then we went up a hill and I did a wheelie almost flipping over backwards and shot past him. That was the highlight of my day, I never saw him again
  10. Eh, if you were in a neighborhood where everyone locked their cars they would just bring a jimmy and a schematic. You could probably leave the keys in it and it would never get stolen again. Not saying do that lol. My brother does, even in NYC, but he drives a powerstroke so.....little risk and little value. Let someone else deal with the headache lol.
  11. If thats the case then its the smartest thing I've ever seen. Never could figure out why people wanted to freeze a few times a day to get more wood.
  12. Sometimes the least susceptible areas become targets to those who can figure out how easily they can get away with it. I mean you walk over, get in, start it and go.. My parents live in the boondocks where any action at all is out of the ordinary so you notice it like a sore thumb. However, one day 2 guys went to an old man's house down the road, tied him up and went through all his stuff.. The houses are all 1/10th mile apart minimum so it's not like anyone would hear him or really notice anything, it's a perfect target. Now you know perfect targets can be acted upon lol. They mighta dumped it because the power scared them. Probably stole a powerstroke and were more keen to it's more tolerant power levels
  13. I think the vacuum thing is a benefit.. That shelby cobra that whoever designed was chopped off flat on the back to eliminate all the turbulence and it worked wonders. This was the 1960's or who knows when.
  14. How did they get it if nothing is broken? Great that you got it back though! Couple people survived another day http://youtu.be/DapVfZUoPRQ
  15. I have my jeep, truck has been sitting ever since that tire blew out. I have no money to get new tires (though dad seems to be working on some possibly, he works at a wheel plant). Then my hard drive with all my years of work was erased and I've been pissed ever since. It's like why bother helping anyone when I have nothing. I help where I can but geeeez I'm crippled. You guys only saw like 10% of what I had. Anyhow, there are many ways to prevent this but it has already happened. I've been thinking of scenarios of finding it all day and then scenarios of what to do with the guys who stole it. I hope you get it back in the same shape you left it. I'm thinking you'll find it. Kind of a big nice truck to just hide somewhere. Definitely post pics though! On CF as well.
  16. The firestones. They are awesome. My truck has been sitting for months and is still floating high above the overloads.
  17. This pisses me off to no end and it wasn't even my truck. I'd go back to medieval punishment if I caught them. Keep us posted.
  18. I bagged mine and love them. My truck was used as a hot shotter for the first 200k miles of it's life so it almost sits on the overrides even without a load. The airbags get it back where it's supposed to be and it rides like a cadillac. They make little bags to go inside the springs up front as well and went ahead and got them. I wasn't as impressed with them, they more or less just firm up the ride. The front end bounces over every bump from the huge weight up front. I have replaced shocks and it never fixes it. The bags up front solved it. I air the front ones up to the max PSI (I think is only 25psi). The back ones go up to 100psi and I don't think I have ever got over 20psi, they are just incredible.
  19. Time laps my @$$. She was going just as fast as normal and you were going just as slow as normal. Mike: Need any help? Mom: Yeah stand right here, the sun is in my eyes. Mom: Ok done. Mike: Geez I just got comfortable, finish my pile while I take my other break. :lmao:I had to do it.

I don't think you'll go through 5 gallons in a week on a 2 mile island.. Yeah I thought about that, would have to truck the sand in like they do in Hawaii.
  21. What if you had just a tiny little trailer with a crane ballast on it... I think that might be why dodge doesn't seem to factor based on stability since heavy weight doesn't necessarily mean a huge trailer. But who knows.

    Diesel dirt bikes....
  23. Heres the plan. We all move here and make our own laws lol. http://static.fjcdn.com/large/pictures/e7/69/e7694a_4172727.jpg
  24. .I think this answers part 1 http://forum.mopar1973man.com/threads/6753-What-Am-I-Waiting-For But basically yeah if you just put the key in and go, it will skip the grid heater since the grid heater needs time to run. Nothing else is doing anything special during the wait to start thing.. Question 2 is that you should probably plug it in for at least 4 hours for it to do anything. It uses 750 watts which could rack your power bill up quite a bit. My latest power bill says $0.106 per KWH so for each hour it is plugged in, it will cost you $0.079. If it's plugged in 4 hours a day all month, thats $9.55. If you simply leave it plugged in, a months worth 24/7 is $57. So it's up to you. Oh and as for when to use the block heater, I'd say any time under eh, 40F. It will start fine down to probably 20F but you might squeeze some more time out of the batteries if it's plugged in at 40F on down.
  25. I can see many porsche owners getting mad when they get passed by that
