stock boost question
If it is stock I would think you could clamp it off completely and be fine. I don't think a stock truck could hit 35psi. You are right about more air lowering EGT's. I built my own little blowoff for the wastegate so it stays shut until I hit 35 psi and I do think it did a good number on EGT's since I am not fighting a wastegate past 20psi (where it is opening). The problem might be that you have a computer that will see that boost and throw overboost codes and might defuel or something. I'm not sure, I'm not a 24V guy, but I think that would be your only issue.

Adjusting the starwheel and the screw in the back of the AFC adjusts the spring tension, so those would need adjustment. The entire contraption between the fueling arm, governor, AFC, Fuel plate, is all a very finely tuned instrument that takes a long time to set up, and then it isn't always perfect for every situation. Hence why I just got rid of it. They have actually had that calculated out longgg before the 12 valves made it into our trucks. They even mention common rail stuff back then, problem was just not having accurate enough machines to produce it full scale. The air/fuel ratio needs to be in the 18-24 range. The higher the ratio, the better the fuel economy. But it is exponential. Meaning after 40:1ish, you are building a lot of boost for little enhancement. I think the tests they did were using an outside source of boost so it didn't take the power to build that insane amount of boost into consideration, it was purely for understanding.

An easy way to check timing is to look at the tab in the little window. Just find TDC (maybe the mark is still there from when you timed it before) and if you crank the engine clockwise from the front, the tab should come into view BEFORE the damper rolls past TDC because the tab is set at stock timing and you are at 16.5. It's just a quick way to confirm it. If it comes into the window at TDC then you know its at stock timing, and if its after, then you know it's more retarded. If the timing is retarded then it will start up instantly. At 16.5 I wouldn't think it would be that instant. Basically if you put the tab in the window and subtract the sticker timing (12-14* on most engines, yours prolly says 14*), then you can figure out your timing within 2*. Its accurate enough to see if you are way off or not.

Forum problem (on my end)
I have a macbook air 13" and it is so light and like I said the build quality is superb. I can have it on my lap and never notice it and it lasts 12 hours on a single charge. Better yet, it only takes like 30 min to charge it. I love that I can open and close it without having to close anything and it never screws up and goes right back to where I started (something windows seems to be hit or miss with). But yes, it has to restart for updates just as often as windows 8, a lot of things truly don't quite vibe with it. The maximize thing flat out drives me insane (however, a new version of mac OS is coming out that is supposed to fix this issue by putting the button on the actual window rather than hiding it in the taskbar). I hate that there is no windows button I can just pop up and click on the recently used program that I uh, recently used. The finder thing is the same as opening a search box on windows and searching for the program you want, every time, its ridiculous. The files yes, are a pain to find. Who knows where they end up. However, the mac (when it works) is way more efficient than windows. Videos play effortlessly without every jittering. The zoom with your fingers and scroll with fingers is perfect, which again, windows cannot even come close to, and even thats a compliment. The only time I hear the fan on this thing is when I open VMWare Fusion, which is an emulator to run windows 7. Oddly enough all the youtube plays within windows, which is within mac..... In hindsight, I do think it is worth the price because of the longevity derived from the build quality. Windows stuff is flat out banged together with a rock and hammer. Mac stuff is a work of art. I can't even get a windows laptop apart that you don't have to rip apart, whereas mac stuff has perimeter screws and then the bottom comes off in one perfect flat piece. The longevity means you aren't going to be buying a new one in a long time. Meaning it lasts as long as 2 if not 3 windows laptops, so the double the cost means it is the same if not better than the cost of windows in the long run. Plus, OS changeovers are now free. And I just flat out wouldn't trade this macbook air for the world. It is so light and the battery lasts so long that it's usefulness goes past my ability to stay awake with it. Having VMware to put windows back on it means I can use something that does work as well. If windows had something with some build quality to it, apple would have no edge.

Forum problem (on my end)
I use this forum on a mac... No problems here. However, macs are finicky about internet connections. Plus this new update seems finicky altogether. Youtube only works 10% of the time now. This forum uses different software than most so that is probably the issue but it's also probably a combination of mac/forum software/etc. I've had a lot of stupid issues with my mac and I'm not exactly seeing the benefit of it over windows. The build quality, touchpad, shortcuts, all 10000x better than windows, but jesus the issues are worse than windows. Theres tons of little things like these that I've been noticing.

Inter cooler spring clamp
I used an impact wrench on mine and found out the hard way that was the wrong thing to do. The metal that goes over the little tabs on the bolt is very thin and the impact pulses slammed the tabs against the paper thin metal so much that eventually when I hit 35psi, it blew the clamp apart. Since then I ordered a spring loaded clamp to replace that one. It is rated at 100psi and the spring means it kinda sets it's own tension, but I no longer use an impact I don't think an impact should be used on any of the intake horn bolts either as I started to notice a little degradation in how snug the bolts were getting. I use it to get them down but I don't let it hammer, I do all the final tightening by hand now. I got the 100psi clamp from bddieselperformance.com for $7.60 on halloween 2011. I see they don't seem to sell them individually anymore and the places you can are charging $20 a piece. If you look hard enough I'm sure there are still some cheap vendors out there.

Ram 1500 diesel
The problem with that VM engine that although prevalent in Europe, it is not the case here. The jeeps use VM engines and you cant get a single part for them at any store. My brother had the jeep liberty diesel and it became quickly apparent that nobody stocked a single thing for it, so he sold it. I am thinking this will be a similar story with the ram VM as well.

Air Plane Fuel
My dad researched this with our dirt bikes and he said if the octane is a lot higher than the compression can allow then a lot of fuel doesn't burn and it washes the rings out and ruins compression. One kid I ride with runs it and sure enough you can just set your boot on the kick start and it just goes all the way down. My dads bike I can put all my weight on and it barely goes down. I just jump on his going down a hill rather than trying to kick it. Maybe that kid was just coincidence but it makes sense to me

what are your egts at idle?
^^^ Same. If you are 100 then you can put your hand over the exhaust manifold outlet while it is running...I don't think so. That would mean the engine is like 90% efficient. Air goes in > Fuel is burned > heat is produced > heat is exhausted. The air cools off as the piston goes down, but assuming your ambient is 80F yet EGT is coming out just barely warmer, then yeah, 90% efficient. Some goes to the cooling system but still, it's impossible is what I'm getting at hahaha. Get a new probe. It should never get under 200. You can get some pretty low numbers on a downhill with the engine in gear and coasting. There is no fuel going in during that scenario so it is just cycling air through the engine, adding some heat from the engine block, then going past the probe. You can see pretty low numbers doing that for a long enough hill but I've still never seen anything under 200. Probably way too much information when all you needed to hear was "no, thats not normal", but maybe kinda interesting.

98 12V
I don't like the new design as much but I think the cup holders actually work and the back door thing basically sells itself. I would say thats probably the biggest part of it. I mean a new dash design isn't really anything to brag about but those back doors do the trick.

A rant about Verizon...
It's that sleek look they are going for. It is sleeker than IE and chrome. "Tabbed browsing" is really all thats similar and its been that way for years, its just a matter of how they portray it. But the menu hiding thing is turning into the current trend to maximize window space. Opera did it long ago and I hated it but you might figure out you never use any of those buttons, its just harder to find when you do want them. Once you remember how to get to them then you will start to like it.

A rant about Verizon...
My work computer is on windows... same new style 29. It is chrome-like and that is what I like. Before it just looked like crayola designed it. I like high end professional looking graphic interface. MercedesAMG website is very fancy. Most websites are sticking to tradition since everyone hates change. I hated windows 8, now I hate windows 7. Bring on the changes.

Firefox finalllllllllly updated to a completely new design. I use it at work for some reason and now its actually worth looking at. I hated the stupid stock kindergarten look it had for the last decade. Still keeping it off all my personal computers though Opera all the way.

Bitter Sweet
I know nobody on here knows but I have since moved back in with my parents just until I get a place of my own because of a new job. I am a project manager/engineer whatever you wanna call it. I have my own big office and this and that and a workload to match. For the last few years I have lived amidst the depths of city life where my only view of the sun was when it was shining straight down at noon. I could barely make out any orange at dusk or dawn. I don't like living with my parents but I was outside and the view hit me in the face like it had done for so many years before I moved out. It is the one thing I hate about city life. I took this an hour ago standing by the house as the sun found a void in a cloud. http://oi57.tinypic.com/sqjwxt.jpg

Life style change
I did the elliptical for 4 months, 500-1200 calories each day. That thing works wonders. I don't care for the stationary bike or treadmill. I ate like crap and still looked incredible so eating good and doing that would shove the weight off quick, as you have experienced. Do pushups and that will take care of the rest. I started with 1 and after I while I was doing 40 at a time. Just get on your knees instead of your feet if you can't do a full one and build up to a full one. Just do that 1 little pushup once or twice a day. The next day, try for 2. Then 3.... sounds easy...because it is. I was amazed at how many I racked up, plus it builds everything. I don't like the gym crap because it just builds one specific muscle, and blehhhh I want to build them all. Keep at it.

A rant about Verizon...
Sprint is terrible. They don't even have their own towers in a lot of places so they rent air time from other carriers. Since other carriers could care less about sprint customers, the speed is way down when on roaming towers. I was at a dirt bike event in "Egypt" where you drive 20 miles in the depths of woods and I was still speed testing with verizon and getting 5mbps at the location. My ATT phone didn't even have enough service to send a text. In columbia where 4G towers are everywhere, I have peaked at 34mbps with an average rate of 20mbps. 4G is incredible and verizon is the one putting all their money into it.

A rant about Verizon...
S So from what I can see, he did tell you.... Even if he didn't, it is his and every other carriers job to be sneaky. In other words, you played a game without first knowing the rules and wonder why you got beat. Verizon is incredible. Sprint has 0 service and ATT is supposed to have the best coverage but Verizon is sure holding its own as far as I can tell, and its much faster at that. Their website clearly says everyone has to be upgraded to be on the Edge plan. Salesmen have one thing in mind, to talk as little as possible to make a sale. Every sale is money in their pocket. You cannot call them out for doing their job and apparently doing it successfully at that as far as they are concerned. All of these other posts you make about things have a lot of info behind them because of all this stuff you read and this and that, yet you can't look at big bold letters on a website? You can't pick and choose what you should research and hope to not get shammed eventually. Research everything as much as you can next time.
