  1. I have absolutely no idea what W-T and great work are talking about, but I'm absolutely fascinated reading the conversation between the two. Don't know why, but I am.
  2. Some people just don't pay attention. Others try to set a new record for completing a job. Then there are people like a friend of mine who fall under both catagories... He did exactly like your picture to a mutual friends truck. 30k miles later I get a call to help figure out why one side was wore out and other side was still good.....gee, I wonder. Another time he did brakes on an old guys car. Guy drove 10 miles home and calls my friend and says the pedal seems soft and the brakes don't work so well. He brings car back and my friend starts pulling wheels. Driver side rear drum was never put on. Was still laying on the floor of the garage. Friends daughter lives about 60 miles away. Brings her jeep Cherokee to her dad for brakes. Dad does job. Daughter goes home. Daughter calls dad from home and says car feels squirrelly and is making a noise. Dad says bring it back. Can't find noise and calls me. He has car on lift and giving it gas. Rear wheel was wobbling. He never tightened the lug nuts properly. Have no idea why she didn't loose that wheel while driving.....with her 2 year old son in the car! I told my friend it's time you quit working on anything. He still does, and rushes through everything. Just won't learn.
  3. Ya, that's wrong..... https://www.onallcylinders.com/2019/11/15/how-to-assemble-drum-brakes-a-step-by-step-guide/
  4. This company is probably cost prohibitive for you but there are pictures to give you an idea for fabrication. Also search "converting bumper pull to gooseneck" and alot of videos and pictures come up. (You probably already have) https://www.bpconversions.com/
  5. I'm the same, 32 years operating heavy equipment. I never gave a thought to cool down a gas engine except when it was turbocharged. It was always pounded into me you have to let the turbo cool down as it's the part of the engine that is abused during operation. The engine itself is running at a semi steady temp that really doesn't require any cool down. Old habits die hard.
  6. Here in the US, tires are now required to have a date of manufacture molded into the sidewall. Four digits. First two are the week, last two are the year, as in 1421 is fourteenth week of 2021. You may have had those tires only two years, but they may be 5-6 years old. Ozone is worse on tires than sunlight, but both take their toll. Just seeing the small cracks next to the lugs tells me they are old. Here are the tires I bought last fall. Not trying to beat a dead horse on you, but here are the tires on my 3500 dually. Bought it in 2018 with new tires on it. They are now four years old and if you zoom in, you can see small cracks like yours show.
  7. I never heard of movement areas. Those tires look old. Looks like sun and ozone have started to dry out and degrade the rubber.
  8. This is where an infared thermometer shines. Could possibly be a brake dragging. You could put your hand on each wheel at every stop and see if they're about the same temp, but a cheap (harbor freight) infared thermometer works best. You say 8.5 mpg, but you don't say what it was last time. One mpg on two different trips, even though same route and conditions isn't unusual. Could very well be an injector starting to die. Like was said, keep driving and watching. If it gets worse, you may have to find a mechanic, but for now I'd just continue on.
  9. Probably going to get a call to move it back....👍👍👍
  10. Definitely sounds like a balance issue, but if there is a belt failing and causing just a slight bulge somewhere on the tread face of the tire, it will set up a harmonic "wobble" that can't be balanced out. In the pics you posted, I see the rubber around the lugs is showing dry rot cracks. Do you have build dates molded into the sidewall like we have here? How old are the tires? These cracks are what I'm talking about.
  11. If you jack up the rear and put it on stands, better if you have a lift, you can put it in gear and watch face of the tire at the "horizon" if that makes sense to see if you see any up down movement. You may have a tire that has a slight belt damage causing a bit of a bulge. Use the e-brake to slow the rotation down so you can easily see any up/down deflection. With a lift you can use 4 wheel drive to check all four without having to swap front to rear to check all 4 tires.
  12. Even a simple thing like checking coolant with a multimeter. I've read and think I understand as it sounds simple enough, but seeing it done would be huge. I think you've opened a can of worms here🤣😂🤣😂👍👍👍
  13. Showing my ignorance.... Wouldn't all vehicle AC be generally the same? I have no idea..... However, I do have a Ford also, so anything would be good 👍
  14. Anything about an AC recharge or repair/troubleshooting. Ring and pinion/differential work. Electrical troubleshooting. These are my Achilles heels......
  15. Why do they put such a useless system on these vehicles? Is it because oil pressure problems aren't that common? If they're going to put a guage on, why not make it a real guage? Probably boils down to the bean counters, but then again, if I'm paying for something, give me what I'm paying for!
  16. I've read this before from you and while I understand filtering (I think), if I'm reading this correctly, you have a 3um filter first, then a 7um filter second. So theoretically, the 3um filter should only pass 1,2 and possibly 3um particles through it. Everything larger should be trapped in the 3um filter. The 7um filter downstream would only be catching the particles that passed through the smaller filter just by chance. As the particles would be small enough to pass through the filter media except some get caught in the media by chance contact. If you are seeing a significant amount of capture in the 7um filter, why not run 3um in both? Also, do you run the same filtration all year?
  17. What is the flash point of 15-40 rotella or Valvoline diesel oil? Does diesel oil have a higher flash point or resist heat soak better than a same weight gas oil? I agree on all points 🤣😂🤣😂👍
  18. Exactly. I mentioned it as a heads up to turn the A/C off if using a turbo timer so cool down time will be much shorter. Question on shut down.... If I'm getting fuel or stopping at the post office, quick stops, I shut down at 390 rather than wait for 350-360. Five or so minutes later I fire up and go. Not running synthetic oil, how likely am I to be getting bad deposits in the turbo? What is considered too hot for shutdown and how fast does the damage happen? In my scenario, is five or so minutes doing anything bad? Those temps are pre turbo not post turbo. I do have both.
  19. One thing I noticed on my truck is the turbo will cool down to 350-360 pretty quick, unless I have the A/C on, then it struggles to drop under 400.
  20. W-T, you are a fascinating man.

The new cooler should "never" have problems again. EGR delete is a problem with emissions testing. Even though we don't have diesel testing here right now, it's definitely coming and I don't want to add anymore issues to the list that these trucks inherintly come with.

Finished doing some upgrades on my Ford today. Bulletproof EGR cooler, oil cooler relocate, water pump, blue spring fuel upgrade, an injector, and cleaning up the stuck variable vanes in the turbo..... Tue, wed, Fri, sat....9-10 hours each. Took Thursday off to let my body recoup a little. Lower ribs and stomach are bruised along with my forearms and inner biceps. Almost everything has to be done laying on the grill/radiator, legs hanging in the air. Quite the experience. One I hope to never have to repeat. This truck was definitely engineered to not be user friendly. Running good again. (Knock on wood) Makes me love and appreciate my Dodge all the more.....
  23. Just a question.....the United States is a powerhouse in the world. When we were attacked on 9/11 and then retaliated, did the rest of the world have the meltdown like we're having now just because Russia invaded Ukraine? I don't think so. This is a total money grab and a very thought out agenda. To what end, that has yet to be discovered, but believe me, if it's bullcrap, January 6th will look like a freaking tea party.....
