Soliciting Recommendations for an ECM source or Rebuilder
Thanks Dave for sharing that experience. It sure would be interesting to hear from someone that rebuilds ECM's to find out what causes the most common failures and why it is seemingly difficult to repair them. All that experienced a failure... was there any early common signs of the ECM failure?

Yeah but once you get past the mountains it's so flat that's where they have the school of pancake makining. LOL

August 2017 Eclipse camping
I think the whole idea of a good road trip is to watch the world go by and live with no measure of time. 'Have another cup of coffee and another piece of pie'. I enjoy finding those hidden away uncrowded camp spots along the way.

Both 2nd gens I own have the Vulcan draw straws with 1/2'' lines. Both trucks have cavitation issues that you can hear and see momentary drop in pressure. It's usually worse with less fuel in the tank and happens more often taking off from a stop or on a turn. When I first installed the fuel system in the 01 truck I had wild gauge readings. I found I had stirred up lots of dirt in the tank and filter the on suction side became clogged in just a few short miles. This combined with air trapped in the prefilter base caused my wild pressure readings. Installed an air bleed off at the filter head and new filter and solved 95 % of the problem. But like I said both trucks are getting air in the system somehow, you can hear the cavitation when it happens even with half a fuel tank .

August 2017 Eclipse camping
Nick, I have to go without the wife since mine is working. Wife also doesn't like road trips even though we've been to the Canadian Rocky mountains many times together. I still thoroughly enjoy a good travel camp road trip.

When it rains it pours
I like the billet style freeze plug in the first link. Like there is no worry if installed correct or not due to its design. However, its a bit pricey and I wouldn't need the shine bling aspect, so I would try finding some less money that made of steel. Especially since I think steel parts for a cooling system is better. Mixing aluminum and steel tends to make metals corrode. JMHO. btw, I'm glad it happened 4 miles and not 200 miles away. Lol

Passed on the power wagon... picked up this!
That car looks cool. Looks very solid, not built by robots. I think you said that you live in an area of harsher winters, do you have a pole building or barn you work in winters?

Is there a bird in my truck?
Do you get protestors when you start a new job?

Is there a bird in my truck?
It's all tight except for the upper portion of the Trac Bar. you can see it moving when wife turns the wheel back and forth. I guess that's enough to give the looseness on rough roads. I'm determined to get both birds out of the two trucks I have and I'm glad others are saying they have it too. Has to be something common/ simple.

Is there a bird in my truck?
Hey Dave, does your truck feel a bit not so tight when you hit a bump like mine? I keep thinking this 2001 I bought may have got in a wreck and CarFax failed to report it. It kind of shakes and feels loose everywhere if I hit a gravel road too fast. Kinda weird... I can't compare it with my 02 unless I take the rv off of it.

Worth trying....Olive Oil on truck.
Inventiveness requires thinking the unusual. I got it off UTube. shows a guy using it on the dashboard and seems to be better than McQuires stuff so far. No... its not that my truck smells so bad that even rancid olive oil would be better. So far I can't smell anything even in a black truck on a warm day

Is there a bird in my truck?
Actually I have two trucks, 01 and 02 and both do it on the left side. The sound is sort of vague or ghosted that you cannot tell exactly if it's from the column, the door weather stripping Or might be cab bolt bushings. I think the more weight the more the road bumps can affect it.

Yeah maybe someone could find that video on U Tube. I think that cop drove up and slowed for the dogs and was the only car they ever ripped apart with an angry passion. lol

Remember that video a few years back of the dogs tearing the bumper off the cop car? I think it was the chicken oil then too. Update... I just wiped off what dust got on there. It came off easy and so did the dead bugs. So I'm sure it helps.

Looks nice Dave. Glad to see you getting your truck back in action. Try the Olive oil on the mirrors for me and see what lasts longest compared to the bumper. A paper towel leaves dust and paper pieces. Old T shirts are the best. Oh yeah.... you'll never get rid of your coyote troubles using the Chick Fil-a oil all the time.

I don't know on that one Dave, but before dark, I got the wax smears gone like magic and made the rubber door trim look new with the O/O. My truck's black like an Olive, but not Virgin with so many miles.

Pictures? What's that? Sneak in wifes kitchen cooking cupboard get Olive oil for cooking when she's not looking. Put clean cloth on top of open bottle dump upside down for a second and then wipe on plastic trim. You will be impressed. Me have big challenge doing pictures. Very easy to sneak around wife.

Bought some McQuiers' plastic trim and dashboard restorer and did the black plastic on one outside mirror and then did the other mirror using Virgin Olive oil. Let it sit for a few days in the rain and sun. Olive oil out performs the McQuires by around three to one (my estimation). Even the first day revealed olive oil to do far better. It's been a week now and the olive oil is still showing the plastic like new. Anyhow it works great. You will notice the white milky, somewhat chalky look on black door trim and plastic handles will disappear in a flash. A bit oily at first, wait about a day and it tones down to a nice look. So far seems to last. Currently testing olive oil on the leather seats and is acting like the leather is accepting it better and feels softer than the coconut oil tried before.
