Morning Pic For Today...........Post A Pic around your place.....
That was quite the climb/hike for two guys in their 60's. We did real good getting up there with no trail. We were camped down in the valley a bit off to the left. Valley floor is at 6900 ft. Anyway the two nice pics of the mountain stream posted on previous page (a few posts back) were from a hike up the Valley you can see to the left. Too much snow to get up there this time, as you can see. Alone the day before, I got up to a large patch of snow just below and to the right in pic, I had left without bringing water, was great eating snow on such a warm day. Saw one bear track in the snow

Stolen 1995 Truck
I am sorry also for your loss. I want you to know that I just bought a 2001 Laramie SLT, everything on it. Very very clean and tight, long bed, extended cab, 190 k miles for $16,500. I know it's too much but, That's just what you have to pay if you want something good. I hope your insurance takes good care of you like they should.

Help-Cummins Down............
I would like to know a bit more about it also. My alt was putting out proper charge voltage (low A/C noise) but the batteries where getting 6/10ths of a drop in charge voltage. I added a ground from alternator housing to battery ground and lowered the voltage drop to acceptable range. Currently cleaning all grounds especially the two big ones on the engine block.

Re-gearing for the Cummins
Nice excerpt about the conversion. How did you know about swapping input shafts? That's pretty cool, I must say.

Re-gearing for the Cummins
You could just change over to the 36's before any regear an see how it does. Like to see that rig. Did you put the engine in yourself?

Better to drop the tank so you can clean out if needed. I raised the bed, had a lot of crud show up in the new primary filter after removing tank screens. Tank screen was clogged somewhat is the reason for removal..

5.9 engine blocks, Killer Dowel pin a concern?
Any way to tell if I have the updated stepped case without pulling the cover?

Good deal. That is a bit more than normal pull down on fuel pressure when truck is not loaded. You should see 19 at idle and 15 with a load wot uphill. A lot depends on the size of load though. 4 p.s.i. Drop is about the max you want to see.

Moving away from wife
Check on a RV brand called, Outdoors RV. They are made in Oregon with heated tanks and better construction and insulation. Some complaints on them but company is good to the owners.

Fan belts squeaks
both my 2002 and my 2001 squeaks at shut down. Ran one belt for at least 150k miles with never a thought about it on my 1st gen. Never had a belt fail... knock on wood.

fan clutch
Can we have pics? especially if you have a KDP pin? That's a good job your doing.... make truck good for many more miles. Ready to drive to meet and greet at the Eclipse camp trip

fan clutch
So are you pulling the gear cover while at it?
-
fan clutch
I think you loosen it clockwise Boss. It's an inch and 7/16ths will work. So if the engine spins clockwise standing at the front it's always tightening when engine running. So to loosen you spin the nut clockwise also to get it off. You need another tool to hold the pulley from spinning too, right?
-
fan clutch
The direction the engine turns is threaded to always tighten up so it's going to go loose if you could turn the engine the wrong way. IF this helps at all it's a mystery More I think about it.... you loosen it the same direction the engine runs.

What is your fuel pressure at idle? Also what does the fuel pressure gauge do when you run up the rpms? Does the pressure drop significant? What lift pump do you have? Are screens in the tank clean/ cleared of debri? My 01 had some junk blocking the fuel at the screen inside the tank right where the draw was. I removed the screens and put on a 30 micron primary filter before the lift pump. New Lift pump (Raptor 150) had a small screen inside the intake side and also removed that. Just want all clogs to go in a filter not elsewhere.

Stainless steel screws in fuel basket, is it OK
Stainless screws are what you want to use if you need them. On my old 92 first gen I replaced the main body of my fuel basket using a 4 inch ABS straight coupling and stainless hardware. Part of the fuel basket was made of metal (part connected to the lid/ cap and moved up and down like a pipe sleeve) and rotted off so I replaced the mid section with the straight coupling. Fit right on there with about 8 screws around it to hold it together. It had no spring when done but after 12 years that way it was still fine when I sold it 6 wks ago.

Lock up switch
Thanks to IBM for doing a nice job to my truck. It's nice to have a truck somewhat like my old 92 5 speed with engine slowing you down on mountain curves and down hills. Two thumbs up for IBM's convertor lock switches. He won't stop working even with a bear chewing on his shoe. lol
-
Lock up switch
nice Website IBM. When you click 'SERVICES' the pic comes up with you working down in the engine. Need to have a bear with his head sticking out from under the car. lol
-
Lock up switch
IBM set me up with a foot switch that Will stay locked on until I hit it again. He put another switch on the Shifter that when you hit it stays locked in till you hit the brakes. Dang I forgot the foot switch was locked on and almost stalled the truck in a left turn. Put me in a panic not knowing what was wrong with the truck since I forgot.. Hope I did not hurt it. Anyhow I'm getting in the habit with both.

Turbo help
Thanks, Supposedly Pacific is looking for a housing to rebuild one for me but it's been couple weeks and haven't called me. In the mean time I can hear mine spinning fine after shutdown. I think one should always listen for the spin after shutting down for clues as to how it is doing, spinning freely etc., but the best is to remove intake tube and check when warm is my recent experience.

Turbo help
Just a small side track hyjack....... why does my turbo show shaft play when hot/ warm and when cold it has none?

Slight rant about auto forums
Not all folks are the same either. Someone may think a little different and have a harder time understanding what is to most others a simple issue. I had a Chemistry teacher in college that could immediately pick up on a persons way of thinking, he could get on their level and then be able to turn them to the correct understanding. He was an amazing instructor. Wild and Free, isn't there a sweet spot in a second gen when it goes for a while without hitting the pocket book? I just bought an 01 to replace the 1992 I had for 20+ yrs. It was a good truck.
