  1. I never got a chance to find out. After bringing it to a mechanic... I wasn't very wise in those days... he told me the V-8 engine was to small for the size truck so it was using up all the capacity the engine could give. I believed him and traded it in for a van. I think he wanted to steal it from me at a good price. Anyhow I'm sure it was the fuel pump going weak on it, them things are the most likelees on the list, if you know what I mean.
  2. I had that same issue with a Ford truck I had. If I got on it hard going up hill the fuel pump couldn't keep up. I would pull over and all it could do was sit there at an idle, I let it sit to catch up and then it would go again.
  3. Isn't there an aftermarket cable you can install for manual control that gets away from the vacuum line problems?
  4. Part of the problem is these companies can pay to have their customers reviews edited. Take out the bad put in the good.
  5. There's a boss somewhere in control ... who says you reap what you sow.... so sounds like this guy with the bird will get wood peckered right where it counts.
  6. Life's too dang tough without a little humor now and then. I'm glad your okay and didn't have the engine die with traffic coming at you or something.
  7. So do they call you two cracked injectors short of a prime employee now?
  8. That truck is beautiful. Please find a way to secure it though... I got home last night to find a stolen second gen on my dead end road. There was a police car and another pulling out with the crook, they caught the guy and was hauling him off after the chase ended on our dead end road BTW, I just think these second gens are going to become a classic. They look so nice in the styling.
  9. So your sayin, dirt finds it's way around because of inadequate size. It's amazing how much of a big deal it is to get your turbo rebuilt by this one shop here in town. Just for my first gen (now sold) they said it had to be shipped to the Midwest somewhere and cost around $1250 and takes a week or so to get it back. Yeah right .. Found a local rebuilder for $362 and took couple days. I put it back in and hadn't heard it run so smooth in a lot of years. Nxt time I'll have that shop do another for me since I'm getting older as I've heard it can be a dangerous thing if you get one thing wrong.
  10. What is so important about the BHAF? I know the factory air box distorts and may loosen it's hold on the factory rubber gasket over time which lets in dust but I figured out how to mod the air box to make a good seal.
  11. So what is wrong with leaving a couple codes on the ECM? Or....... can you get another set of Relays to run your own system on a manual switch and leave the factory relays as dummies for the ECM to not throw those error codes?
  12. I like this info because on my first gen truck the fuseable links melted. They melted so far into the connection there was barely enough wire to connect the new fuseable links. Had to cut into a rubber factory harness piece to get barely enough to do the repair. It left me stranded till I got it repaired.
  13. Does it come apart easy with screws or prying loose carefully? Thanks to all ya's Mike
  14. Can I control the grid heater by installing a switch on the Grid Heater Relay control wires? I know this was talked about before. Did a search and nothing comes up.
  15. Does anyone know what that's about and what to do? It goes back to normal for a short while after a battery disconnect. Thanks in advance
  16. Thanks. Tech guy at Raptor asked me not to mess with it and send it back. I have a new 150 sitting on the bench.
  17. Mine is the Rapter 150 installed new two weeks ago. Mine is doing something similar only it's always above 14 but jumps to almost 25 psi when accelerating. I want the idle pressure for a VP truck to go no higher than 18-19. So I called them and they sent me a new 150 which I got in 4 days. They want me to send back, in their return package, the one that's acting up. You really need a pressure gauge in the cab. Staying above 14 is important to not cause wear to the injection pump. Idle or THE highest pressure should be no MORE than 18-19. A lot of guys install the big line kit from Eric so when hauling heavy on the hills the psi won't drop below 14. Best to see around 15 at lowest. You should also remove the inlet screen on the pump and install a pre filter so clogs won't ruin the flow if clogs develope in that tiny screen. I don't know what Pur flow is thinking with that screen in there. That's a ruin injection pump just waiting. Matt is right about the tank vent, it's right down there where all the dirt flies up and can get clogged it's always vacuuming a tiny bit of dirt into the tank. I routed mine up high with a easy flow inline gas filter on the end of extended tubing. You can make your fuel cap vented too in an emergency by drilling holes but try running without the cap and see.
  18. I just installed a new RP150 with a fuel pressure fluctuation problem. I took out the screen during installation cause I wanted a pre lift pump filter. That way when clogs occur it can be changed. I called the tech down there at PureFlow about the fluctuation problems and they were very nice, are sending a new pump. They want me to send back this one for testing and why it also squeeked at first starter bump. My 02 has the RP 100 for a lot of years and pressure has to be adjusted up about every two years or so so no going below 14 psi problems. Is it a possible better situation running all the return thru the VP for cooling? I wouldn't even pretend to know anything more than the site owner... just a question.
  19. You have to change cam too don't you? I'm at the age where when if one little screw is lost I won't sleep anymore thinking I lost it in the gears
  20. I hear ya' Dave, I might try another brand too just for comparing although I think Monroe had to own up to some better quality with everyone jumping on the Bilstein or Rancho's scenario. Like you I'm tired of the stiff ride.
  21. I would give them a call at 503 777-1038. They are actually called Hub Cap World now.
  22. I want to do something like that on my 01. After all it's just a work truck. Would you go with the Monroe shocks again?
  23. I think some folks are on the right track when you can tell that they enjoy taking the time to help others. They always seem to be doing well in life for themselves too. When my wife reaches retirement we are going to get out of this now ruined area and move to a quiet community somewhere up near the mountains. Somewhere our biggest worry is only the firewood supply or having to check the last time the Cummins got fresh oil. lol
  24. I was walking across a Farm store parking lot last night going to my truck and a car went by so close she almost ran over me. I was looking the other way and heard no car coming. Before crossing there was no cars coming and it wasn't a main thru fare. She came out of no where and obviously had no intention of stopping. She had a mean look on her face and acted like it was my fault. She never stopped to apologize or anything. I wanted to pick up a rock and bust the rear window as she drove off. Day before... another guy in front of me slowed to figure out which way to turn but then went straight. Afterward I was halfway thru my intended left turn and he suddenly guns it to the left right in front of me. I have tail gators now every time I travel somewhere. I'll look back and there is no one for a mile on a what used to be a nice county road. Look up again moments later and out of no where there is a car riding my bumper. On the interstate near us every time I'm on it I see close calls and people driving just absolutely nuts. In general, peoples attitudes have changed around and letting it rule their driving habits. Noticing also peoples attitudes are letting it affect the way they do business... Last month I over paid a bill so the nxt months wouldn't be so high. Only the next mos. bill did not reflect any of the nearly 600 dollar overpayment. In talking with the accounting dept she talked so fast and so impatient with me I just gave up trying to understand this weird billing/ accounting policy. Knowing when I got home I would try to make sense of what she printed out, I walked out of there. Couldn't understand that fast talk anyway, sounded very impatien anywayt. When I could not understand their accounting methods on the piece of paper she gave me, I called the company to talk with the owner but he was not around. So I get this same fast talking lady calling me back, only this time accusing me several times, elaborating how I was trying to circumvent her and now the fast talk being even worse is now with an aggressive tone. Let me remind you that this lady is also unrelenting in her tailgating if you happen to be in front of her on the way to work.. Anyway she gives you the impression you don't want to give them the business any longer, even after having the account over 30 years. It pissed me off. Going to have my wife go over the statements and invoices when tax deadline passes. We will see what happens. Sorry for the longer post but you guys need a good read anyway I hope the coffee is good.
  25. I'm in the same boat in that I do not want to mess with the electronics. I want to keep it simple, mostly original. And although half these guys would like to take my trucks away and put me back driving a buck board, I cannot help the way I think........I just don't trust electrical. I know now I will be set up as a target from now on lol
