Synthetic Motor Oil and Leaking?
When my truck was new my pan leaked. Not trusting the dealer I went under there and gave each bolt a nice hand snug tight. Not wrenched but snug and it has never leaked since.

Terrible luck with Raptor.
No because the Ford guy said he had his on the frame rail also. Are you running yours from direct battery thru a relay activated by the ECM?

Terrible luck with Raptor.
determining wire size from different charts might have something to do with it. Needing to add the return wire for total length (which my book says to include) to get the proper gauge. As said before a guy on the Ford forum said these motors run hot. I Never stopped to put my hand on mine to see, but running constant it's got to get pretty warm. Combined with hot fuel from a low tank, a hot day and that rubber 'O'ring has got to start on it's way to breaking down.I could be wrong naturally... but when looking at the wire harness the wires seem on the small side. The biggest problem is when you notice the ground is smaller that the power lead. 12 volt systems information from many sources, says, 'never have a smaller ground wire', but always the same size as the power lead..

Thank you Mike for the wire size chart. I think when determining the correct wire size you have to add in the total length of positive and negative leads. So if the pump takes two 12 ft. pieces of wire, you figure a 24 foot run to estimate wire size.

I think one problem with the AD Raptor pumps is they run too hot and the seal fails then and lets diesel run up into the motor. To keep pump cool;Shorten wiring harness for less resistance as well as increase wire and relay size.Increase all fuel lines to 1/2'' lines for the pump to not work so hard.Mount as close to the tank as possible with an easy flow filter (larger micron size) before the pump

Terrible luck with Raptor.
There is supposed to be a guy on a Ford forum who changed out the Raptors wiring to larger cable and it ran much cooler. The post even shows pics how to change the wiring inside the motor as they were way too small of gauge. He said it solved his troubles.

Lift pump reccomendations?
Is there a way to tell if you have one of the old school AD's? Might still be some around if anyone still has some older supply/ stock.

Obamacare is so screwed up
It has many hidden taxes like the 3.8 % tax you'll pay when you sell your home. Even if you only had say 20,000 dollars equity you will still owe 3.8% of the full selling price. There are many unforeseen ramifications in this bill, border hoppers is just one. The problem is tax payers money seems to always get lost in Gov't. accounting or shall we say.... Gov't abyss. When we hear about 'running out of money' or 'need to raise funding'. Usually ends with what is considered a bad investment or poor return on the dollar invested. I think the whole thing is just another money grabbing scheme and will take the competiveness out of the insurance business market.

Obamacare is so screwed up
Heck working and accomplishing things is so rewarding. I am retirement age now but have a hard time giving it up since my biz does afford some freedom from being a real grind. I like hiring these great young workers too. Make sure we get enough done ea. day, but always have some fun.I am amazed at some of their stories while working for other companies. Usually a scenario of unfair low pay with a well to do owner/ boss who is seemingly never happy and money means everything. Sad to see young people with such small hopes for the future like that.

ATV issue...
Those fuel tanks build up a fine dust in the bottom over a long period of time. I think I just removed the tank nipple that connects the fuel line and gave it a good flushing out. The carb I tried cleaning with carb cleaner while I had it apart but, nothing worked till I got the carb sonically cleaned.I like those in line filters they sell that are clear and can tell when to change.

Obamacare is so screwed up
I feel bad about your son out of work. I remember when I was just starting 40 years ago, America felt like it was an ocean of opportunity. I remember starting a business the way I thought, but, today you would get fined a minimum of a thousand bucks for it. It's not only Gov't strangle hold on American business, but, the very destruction of so many young peoples motivation, drive, and dreams.

Obamacare is so screwed up
Somethin' about those log homes.......Another thing that is happened is I got a contract to build a small warehouse for a medical products manufacturer. Owners decided to not go ahead with it due to their business contracts are now decreasing somehow. They think it's from the 3.8 % tax on all med products. That ain't all.......The county issued us permits in 3 weeks but the stupid city has gotten so cute with continual added hoops to jump thru that they pist off the owners. Now after $18 k spent/ lost on plans, engineering and fees they pulled the plug. I have other work going so it's not like I'm a desparado... just want to let everyone know this gov't is getting a little too bolted up with rules. My dad gave his life for this country, left us seven kids only to let idiots now run it. I'm sad because this job would have allowed a lot for my wife and I.

Obamacare is so screwed up
I don't have insurance, my wife does, but, because of O'care it's going to double in January. This means we cannot afford it any longer. It's too bad.... we both work a lot and don't get benefits. Now we'll get fined for no insurance. The only reason for O'care is the fact that most Americans are having to face paying for increases in transportation, house and fuel just to keep a job/ keep going. With wages worth lees and less it's forcing many to cancel their Health insurance. O'care makes sure and guarantees the health industry stays alive. For taxation on profits and all but, it's crap with this fine thing, no freedom of choice. When the time comes for me to kick the bucket, I'm not going in an ambulance to some strange hospital with strange people and professional gougers on a bill that takes away everything I worked hard for all my life.No No:nono: I'd rather go in my own real log cabin out in the boonies. I worked so dam hard to build it, pay for it. Health industry gougers aint gettin' it.Sorry guys I'm just a little pist.

Any Thoughts on Subaru's CVT Transmissions?
From what I understand Subaru has an all steel belt that looks more like a very finely engineered chain. On edit....I don't really know enough about transmissions to say if it has a torque converter or not. I repeated something I had just read.
-
Any Thoughts on Subaru's CVT Transmissions?
It has no torque converter so not as much heat. It works by using a snake shaped steel belt running on a pulley that has more of cone shaped sides. As it gets closer together (Larger pully effect) as it up shifts . The two cone shaped sides of the pulley go further apart to downshift, making the pulley smaller diameter. When you drive it there is absolutely no shifting feel. The computer keeps the engine at max efficiency at all times and has proven a major increase in fuel mileage.Sorry for no links... trying not to admit I don't know how yet

Can't explain my drastic mileage increase
Let me know what you find. As for myself I was surprised as to the extra fuel in the tank when I got to where I was going. I make that run a lot lately. With mixing the synth 2 stoke and dino 2 stroke (one qt. of each on fill up) It was quite surprised how well the truck ran.
-
Can't explain my drastic mileage increase
Thank you..... I think the engine is just getting broke in while the VP is on it's way out. It's got 75,000 miles on 'er now sooo.Oh yeah... I almost forgot....I put in one qt. of synth 2 stroke an one qt. of dino 2 stroke. Try it you guys might find better smoother mileage.

Any Thoughts on Subaru's CVT Transmissions?
Thank you ISX. I'm having a hard time understanding the 'lifetime no service' on the trans unless its towed heavy.Apparently, there is alot of proprietory information about these transmissions. Factory service guys are allowed only so much transparency. That's the reason for the difficult search for information on the net.

Any Thoughts on Subaru's CVT Transmissions?
Ended up getting one with about 87,000 miles on an otherwise almost perfect 2010 outback. The reason for this is my wifes older Forester was totaled by a teen age tailgator. I had to get her another car and this was the best around without going new (no debt) as the insurance made sure we were shorted as they tend to do.But.... I'm worried about the CVT transmission. Can't find much on the net except it seems as though its proving itself to be reliable so far. I'd like to hear anyones thoughts/ experiences.Subaru claims people are trading in their BMW's, Mercedes, and most other cars due to the repair bills they are tired of. Our dealer sold 190 cars last mo. with increases every month.

Can't explain my drastic mileage increase
thank you fellow diesel fans for the thoughts....... I forgot to say.... it runs really good but I did get one stutter on the freeway. Just for a split second, it prompted me to do the key trick to see if 0216 came back and it did after not seeing it for a year.No stutter afterward for the rest of the 1300 miles left to go with the heavy slide-in camper . It does run good otherwise. No modes on the truck except the usual fuel system, i.e. big lines all the way, raptor 100 , no in tank screens, 90 gph pre filter. Filters were new btw.

Help with hard start and some codes
I had a few hard starts from not tightening the injector nuts enough after prime. I think I was getting a small amount of fuel drain back when air leaked in. I just retightened them not wrenched them.
-
Can't explain my drastic mileage increase
Been driving about a year after the 0216 code came up. It never came up again till a few days ago so I increased fuel pressure to 21-22 from 18 and throwing 2 quarts of 2 cycle with every fill up to help the VP.I have a significant increase in miles hauling the same heavy camper on the same almost exact 3 day long road trip sometimes going 3 times a year.. It's showing a little over a 1 mile per gallon increase to 15.3 from just under 14.:think:I thought the vp should give bad miles when the timing piston starts to wear (0216 error code), but there's no white smoke and no hard starts. runs really good.
