I'm finally putting an aftermarket pump...question about that
Yep, I went to Vulcan last night and got the rest of my parts. Saturday morning, no rain, last payment made last week..... Nothing better

How does Mike know so darn much? Wish I could get like that He probably studies the trucks wiring schematic every night till 2 am

AD 100 filter change tips??
I got tired of that too. Besides loosing prime it was a pain in the:moon:. So I installed two brass shut off ball valves, one on each side of the filter and fuel pump (they are seperate on mine) so I could easily change out the filter and/or the lift pump if needed. The ball valves are 1/2 inch so no restriction.

VP44 problems - Getting tired of the BS!
In Oregon if it's over 8500 GVW you don't have to get smogged, unless a newer truck with smog devices that eat up the mileage.

I'm finally putting an aftermarket pump...question about that
Thanks to both of you. I might just go ahead and find the right threaded fittings, but, to get the correct threading and a stop for the 'O' ring to seal against might be a bit of a hassel. Something about good old barbed fittings with a ss. clamp I like.

I'm finally putting an aftermarket pump...question about that
Just bought an AirDog 100 cause she's stock but, how about those quick connect fittings? Someone on another post said they leaked. What's your guys experience with them as they age? Thanks much

VP44 problems - Getting tired of the BS!
What it costs for an original new vp they could have used real silver for solder or even gold. But them bean counters.... you know it cost a lot less to call for a tow truck

What's better for fuel mileage..... cool fuel? or hot fuel?
Same for me too.... I see mileage variations I cannot explain. The intercooler must be a lot more important for mpg than for a fuel cooler. I know the older ctd's had less hp without intercoolers.BTW, I was down at Source Automotive today. Rip the owner says they've had 4 trucks come in with clogged tank vents. He might of said quit a few.... can't remember now. He said you can just see the fuel tanks collapsing. So watch your tank vents too. I would bet a lot of them are marginal at best. He he....Put a whistle on there, after a run if you get out of the truck and still hear it whistling you got a problem. I actually found it on my first gen, I could hear a hissing sound every time I pulled the fuel cap.

What's better for fuel mileage..... cool fuel? or hot fuel?
I know we got off topic a few degrees :lmao:But, Mike is right.... that last video!!?? That guys got serious disease.... banjo bolts, small fuel lines, too slow of a tank vent, clogged screens. Add that he's probably added some power mods, It's like trying to make some poor ole' guy run the marathon with clogged arteries.About cooler fuel... I think Mike is right again since he's got that accurate miles computer... he is seeing very little effect on mileage, but, If your combining hot fuel with colder air doesn't that affect how efficient the intercooler is working? Sort of like one affecting the other?

module upgrade understanding
I can try to help out here maybe. That's a big maybe btw. I would drill out the spot where you have the leaking line for the new draw straw and hopefully you can place the return line on what used to be the feed line (BIGGER).

module upgrade understanding
You are going to a lot of work there. What year truck do you have? Is it a 91 like on your forum name? If you fill out your signature we could help lots better knowing what truck and what mods.

What's better for fuel mileage..... cool fuel? or hot fuel?
I see what your saying. I've kept up with the 2 cycle use, clean filters, two of them in line and always watched the fuel pressure. Although I've only been able to maintain a steady 14 psi all the time only because of the big lines and draw straw with stock pumps, my 02 runs smooth as glass, I need to try and keep my vp healthy. So afraid of the vp with all the bad reports, I even ran the return line into the fuel filler neck so the hot fuel returning would not be dumped right next to the drawstraw. My 92 developed a clogged tank vent so on the 02 I even installed an aftermarket tank vent all because of these reports. When installing the drawstraw I even cut out the intank screens for better fuel flow in case they clogged up.Oh well.... lots of work for little gain perhaps but, I go down the road knowing I did what I could. Next is the right aftermarket lift pump very soon. I would like to see somewhere around a steady 18 psi.

What's better for fuel mileage..... cool fuel? or hot fuel?
Thanks Mike for the details explaining this to me.Because of summer months then, getting the fuel filter housing isolated off the intake manifold is a good idea. That thing acts like a fuel heater when you don't need it the most, but, sub zero winter months would be benefit.Perhaps it is negligible value in discussing this... just don't know...... other than hearing all the issues with the vp caused me to do all I could for it. I'm still on the original vp perhaps borrowed time. Truck was built during the very last month of the second gen production line.

Lift Pump Wiring questions
Thank you. That is one cool pic that explains it all. Thanks again and I noticed the 40 amp capacity too

Mike, you don't think the heat sink help in some small way even with the blower going?

Lift Pump Wiring questions
I'm still getting this idea together myself, more so now that I hear relays are more reliable. I think there is a ground prong on the relay for the negative wire from the ecm which normally would go to the negative side of the pump.
-
Lift Pump Wiring questions
What he's saying is using the wires that were normally hooked to the lift pump as the ones to activate the relay. When the ecm tries running the pump it will click on the relay instead and then the pump will be connected directly to the batteries inside the PDC box. This way the ECM is isolated from possible harm from high amperage draw if the pump goes binding up.. Mike the mopar man has taught this to all and me too so just repeating what he said. My trouble is I don't trust electrical stuff and want to do this without a relay, more simple =more reliable

What's better for fuel mileage..... cool fuel? or hot fuel?
It might be beneficial, in other words, to go ahead and isolate the filter canister off the intake manifold even if just for the sake of the vp electronics temperatures.Who really knows except the guys doing the test with remote temperature sensors. They are the ones saying the vp does occasionally get too hot going above factory specs. It's an easy mod anyhow and don't think anyone would want to actually add anymore heat to the vp if they did any heavy towing.

I looked for your article but cannot find it. Being that I'm new to this site an all

What's better for fuel mileage..... cool fuel? or hot fuel?
I don't know the answer to this one. I am hoping that all the fuel coolers sold do give better mileage as they claim.I know the vp can get too hot under loads, heavy towing and so on, esp. on hot days in which cooler fuel helps in that case.Anyhow, ever notice how hot the fuel filter housing gets from being mounted on the intake manifold? Put your hand on it after a run. It's supposed to be getting too hot anyways, acting like a fuel heater most all the time.First off I need to give credit for this information from another forum when this discussion was going on. Someone got the bright idea to make a plastic piece that isolates the fuel cannister from the engine heat. I did this with a piece of phenolic resin, about a one inch offset so it no longer sits on the manifold.Hopefully someone else can find this helpful however much this little mod does actually help...... I really don't know:shrug:. But it made me feel better anyhow with accomplishing one more step toward a cooler running vp.

Lift Pump Wiring questions
Good option to do to your truck. You can make your own harness but, may harm the ecm if you accidently hook up the wires backwards. I just would make sure it's correct It's best to have the ecm wires activate a relay and the pump then gets it's power directly from the power distribution panel or center. That way it won't burn up the expensive ecm if the pump decides to go bad. Read all the above posts carefully and you'll begin to understand how others did this. I do not like powering off something that's as sensitive as the ecm. It's $500 bucks to replace it. Although I think there is a way to set up the truck so you no longer need an ecm. Not sure about that yet... still trying to educate myself I only know from Mike that it's better to get the power for the pump from elsewhere.

Tranny Issues
Sounds okay but, I always feel better knowing I have the right guy with a known reputation doin' my trans. He could be real real good but one mistake can make for BTW, I've been told that power flushes on an auto trans is a big bad idea.. So I don't do it.

An experience of a lifetime...
If you bag one of them you might start another war. Why not leave Twix Bars about every hundred feet leading up to camp with a pile of them sitting on a table. You might be able to communicate somehow while he gobbles the candy. Make friends:)..... I don't know if I believe there's Bigfoot or not but it's interesting story. It's possible I suppose. Like to see the pics but also thanks for the interesting reading.

Mopar Man's Got me convinced..... I need an aftermarket lift pump
Very good install when the quality shows like that. You could sell those brackets on the net possibly. Was wondering... I've got half inch lines and the big draw straw on my truck. Don't know if that comes into play, but, which pump would maintain a good level of pressure without having the regulator? I see guys talking about it once in awhile. Thanks to everyone

getting frustrated (oil leak)
Hey now Mike, my 92 ctd has some oil on the bottom but no drips. We're talkin' 20 year old truck with over 350 k. I even parked it on a brand new driveway today at a million dollar home
