47re Trans Service Tips and Tricks
Man.... that's amazing to me anyway, that you are doing that much yourself. My 01 has 216k on the clock and so dropping the pan yesterday and seeing how clean with only a little bit of metal sludge on the magnet brought my hopes up. It may have been rebuilt at one time because it had 190k on the clock with a large hitch ball in the bed with air bag suspension when I bought it. I guess that is called a 'Goose Neck' for heavy hauling. I hope IBMobile has the same luck with his trans as he recently pulled the pan and found no excess metal, but his is not locking up on his last trip even using the manual locking switch it won't lock.

P1740 with no TCC lock
I hope Dynamic jumps in to offer some information. Dan did everything get replaced in the clutch pack on its first rebuild, just a few years ago wasn't it? And you only have a little over a hundred thousand on the entire truck. This gets me to thinking/ hoping its something simple. Looking at his Website, he's got some nice builds for 35-36 hundred. I think that's if you do the R&R then shipping on top of that. I would rather have Dynamic do everything on it.

Should I bite the bullet?
Only thing I can say is it's right at the mileage where it needs new injectors. Because of the Common rail fuel system with electronic injectors , it is multi times more likely to wash a piston and cause a complete engine rebuild, than a more reliable mechanical injection system. A set of injectors for that newer common rail are up to ten times the cost of a second gen. This information is from Mopar1973Man. He has educated a lot of us each morning over coffee . Personally, I like seeing just how long my second will hold to taking care of me, help me save money.

I know IBMobile telling it true as I've gone camping with him many times. He could set up a regular trading post and saloon at camp. He even tows a boat behind his 5th wheel full of stuff.

47re Trans Service Tips and Tricks
I'll be interested in the calibration results on brands. Cool, cause that helps a lot of us. Are those pics from the shop you work at? Also what symptoms did you have and how many miles on it with a worn out overdrive clutch pack? Thanks Timd32

Nope only brothers. I still had to convince her that the jack came from the motor pool of a princess before she would touch it. My test drive showed a little quicker response in shifting and no leaks. I was careful to tighten down the pan bolts in 3 stages finally up to the 12 ft. lbs. or 144 inch pounds as per Dynamic.

That's what I did except I did it twice to make sure I backed off the rear one 3 times. Could not remember if I counted right. The pan and gasket are on with all bolts hand tight. Came in for lunch. I cut off three longer bolts and screwed them in where the pan bolts go and used those as a guide for the gasket and pan to go up and not touch any dirt. Worked very well with the wifey raising up the pan very slow on the floor jack. My shoulders are bad is why, allowed for a painless accurate install. Need to mention them factory pan bolts are short and only use about half of the threads available. The Goerend bolts use all the threads. Very nice but use a proper torque wrench on the aluminum casing .

Okay.... got the specs and procedure for adjusting the bands. I'm thinking you must hold the torx adjusting screw when tightening the lock nut to the specified ft lbs. So I have to assume you get the lock nut snug with a wrench in order to have access and hold the adjusting screw. Once it is snug you can put the foot pounds wrench/ socket over the lock nut and turn to the correct foot pounds without worry of turning the adjusting screw. Is that correct?

47re Trans Service Tips and Tricks
Update: well its an unusually cool weekend for August and so I have the pan and filter off with it draining all nite. What a mess without a drain plug BTW. I had to get a more expensive inch pounds Torque wrench since a little deeper search revealed some problems with the mid range brands. I ended up getting a CDI made by Snap On. Very nice wrench with close accuracy. Now I'm scared to adjust the bands.... is it something that has to be done even though my trans does perform well?

Back to getting rid of a Skunk.... Sometimes I think MoparMan and Dripley like to get rid of Me .

OEM & Aftermarket
Experience with buying 3-4 mechanical lift pumps for a 92 12 valve I had for years showed Cummins sold me the same cheaper part that the auto parts sold and was not the original well made lift pump, only a higher price with better cardboard box to make you think it was better. Next run to Cummins revealed a well made, in U.S.A., Vibration damper needed for the 01. Much better built than the aftermarket lighter weight damper available from Dorman. I do not like Dorman quality anyway.

Installing Isspro FP gauge in stock 01
Good to hear. Eric not only has the parts, but also designed everything so his parts hit two bulls eyes with the same arrow. He is good man, but make sure you treat him right he had some bad customers in the past take the fun out of it for him.

Hey you guys I got to get rid of a skunk.....
Whats really cool is how different things are when you get older.... how you want only the simpler side of life and live like you have all the time on your side. Not in big hurry to have everything. I know the gov't people have a guaranteed income. They sit around and think of ways to run out of money, or at least make it look that way, and then think of another way to tax even more. Most of us have to add some kind of value to society so end up working hard.

Installing Isspro FP gauge in stock 01
My test ports are just a 'T' plumbed into the 1/2'' fuel line hose with a cap on them. They aren't schrader valves (tire valves) like the one originally on the VP, they just a port to screw on a test gauge. The cap that unscrews keeps the fuel from pouring out. Vulcan Performance has those and is where I got mine. Eric at Vulcan has everything you need. He is very fair on pricing too.

As for using the needle valve.... it lets you adjust it perfect and is only in the right adjustment when barely, barely open to protect the gauge. I didn't like not having the ability to adjust my snubber/ small orifice, when I had one, because my electronic sensors for the gauge never lasted but a short while each time I changed it. Both trucks now have mechanical gauges turned way down. To complete.....all have no banjos with 1/2 inch lines including draw straws. Big filter to protect frame mounted Raptor 150's and then running thru factory filter. Both trucks have needle valve and also Fuel pressure test ports for checking gauge accuracy.

Coffee And Morning Thoughts for the day.......
AOC would have something to say about spewing that particulate matter out your exhaust pipe. I don't think a simple EGR would be very effective.

All the planets are in correct alignment for picking on Dieselfuture.

Hey you guys I got to get rid of a skunk.....
Dieselfuture, It make me happy to see people laugh. Life so dang short.... it should be a gov't mandate that everyone develop a sense of humor.

Yes I know.... a lot of money hungry tactics practiced these days. You really got to listen to your gut feeling to tell when to stay away and when someone is like family.

AUTO TRANS SYMPTOMS
I invision the trans case possibly twisting tweeking under load and the trans pan helps stop that stress on the trans case.

OEM & Aftermarket
There is no doubt in my mind that Mopar1973Man, that he himself is all original. As for parts, I like good aftermarket parts that have a proven track record, but one of the big deals with me is the auto parts stores seem to be running toward cheaper most common stuff because it is easy to sell at the lower price and still has a decent mark up for them. Another form of inflation is the lowering of quality, always hunting for a cheaper manufacturer but prices stay close to the same or go up anyway. I would rather pay good money for good parts and not have to participate in helping below average manufacturers be successful in any way.

Look at the reviews too... almost full 5 stars. I guess I'll have to eat crow and go to Home Depot. Thanks Timd32,

47re Trans Service Tips and Tricks
Goes to show you can learn something from everyone The Georend pan was so strongly recommended by W-T that I gave up the thought of the other brand I've had on the 02 for 8 yrs or so. He was right and I'm glad I listened..... even the way it is packaged you see these guys are tops. The gasket feels real not like the ATP I brought back to the auto parts store, which felt fake by comparison. I've noticed a lot of auto parts stores lowering their level of quality in products yet keep prices up. It pays to find the right people. Wondering... is a big honkin torque wrench, one that goes from about 10 to 160 ft. lbs. from Snap-On going to be accurate enough for 12 ft. lbs.? May be better to get an inch pound wrench. Evan, thank you for the link for an upgrade kit. I probably won't doing that this time around as my trans behaves like it was brought up right.

47re Trans Service Tips and Tricks
I was thinking only a basic fluid and filter change since the trans has no issues at the moment and with the drain plug I could get in there easier anytime in the future. Dynamic thank you for jumping in that was good information.
