Oil Bypass Filtration System
I saved a fair bit of $$$$ and oil running a bypass oil filter on my 04.5. Never had a poor oil analysis using TP (toilet paper) as the bypass media either.

16.5 Months of Ownership
Turned 30,000 miles on this little 2016 Chevy Silverado yesterday. Overall, not one problem. Gonna replace the crappy OEM shocks with Bilsteins here shortly. Colder weather hits mileage in gassers just like diesels.........10-20% drop.

New personal MPG record :-)
IIRC; I was running around 8100lbs. with my normal stuff and me in MightyWhitey.

New personal MPG record :-)
A lot "lighter and aerodynamic"??? We had essentially the same truck. "Splain please.

New personal MPG record :-)
I used to get 20+mpg quite regularly with MightyWhitey. My best was 23.x IIRC..............twas 100*F+ with a light South wind, and I was traveling North. Running the 265AC on that trip, as it wasn't humid because of the drought.

Happy Halloween
- E15
Had a good chance to test out my "experiment" today. Drove out to eastern Iowa from NE Illinois today for a retriever hunt test; and then back today. With the E15 in my tank, my "Lie-O-Meter" is reading 20.6mpg. Around 400 miles round trip. Under very, very, similar conditions and miles last week on a trip to Tomah, WI and back to my place on regular 87 octane regular unleaded, my Lie-O-Meter was reading 21.8mpg. The E15 lack of "Energy" is very noticeable going up hills and grades.............the Lie-O-Meter drops very fast when compared to regular E10. Maybe the lack of energy in the fuel was enhanced by where I drove to today. Once I get about 70 mile West; it gets really, really hilly.................where the vehicles have to "work" to get up the grades. I still plan to refill with E15 to get a more "unbiased" opinion........................... Stay tuned.- E15
Understood; but am hoping the 88 octane (thus increased timing, theoretically) will offset this!!- E15
I ran the tank down a bit further than normal in order to give E15 fuel a try. For those that don't know, E15 is gasoline that is 15% ethanol..............where "normal" 87 octane gas is usually E10 or 10% ethanol. Wanted to try it because it runs 5-10% cheaper than regular 87 unleaded, and because it's 88 octane vs. 87. Hoping that the decrease in energy in the fuel will be offset by the flex fuel feature on my truck which adjusts timing due to "knock". Just experimenting. Thinking that if theres and increase in timing it'll offset the lower energy in the fuel. What thinks the brain trust here???- 2016 Silverado Mileage
Put the first sort of "big" trailer load behind her a few days ago. My retriever club had to move their "training day" to a different location, and I tow the club trailer there. Twas about 20 miles or so, but a lot of hills.....................and the trailer is 7x16 and runs about 7500lbs. First off; I miss the Cummins low end torque, as you need to wind out the gears a lot longer in a gasser to get her going. Second of all........with the Cummins, I rarely had to downshift..................with gassers (because of their power band) they need to downshift to make power to maintain speed. Third..........the 1500 handled perfectly. Airbags in the rear helped for sure.- 03-07 Transfer case support bracket.
Seems like an answer to a question/problem that's never been asked or arisen!!!- slipped my clutch.
I'd recommend SouthBend. I had their Con OFE in my '04.5 which was good for 450HP and 1000ft.lbs. IIRC. I put almost 175,000 on that clutch and it still worked like new when I traded MightyWhitey.- My Advice Column
Dear John, I hope you can help me. The other day, I set off for work, leaving my husband in the house watching TV. My car stalled, & then it broke down about a mile down the road, & I had to walk back to get my husbands help. When I got home I couldn't believe my eyes. He was in our bedroom with the neighbor's daughter! I am 32, my husband is 34 & the neighbor's daughter is 19. We have been married for 10 years. When I confronted him he admitted they have been having an affair for the past 6 months. He won't go to counseling, & I am a wreck & need advice urgently. Can you please help? Sincerely, Sheila Dear Sheila, A car stalling after being driven a short distance can be caused by a variety of faults with the engine. Start by checking there is no debris in the fuel line. If it is clear, check the vacuum pumps, hoses on the intake manifold & also the grounding wires. If none of these approaches solves the problem, it could be the fuel pump itself is faulty, causing low delivery pressure to the injectors. I hope this helps, John.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
No, it does not. It does have what's called "grade braking" though.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
There is D/Drive like a normal automatic. There is M/Manual and a button with + or - on it to select the maximum gear range you wish to choose. If you choose M3 the tranny will start in 1st, then 2nd, and go no further than 3rd. Same for any gear you choose in M mode. I drive in M5 around suburbia where speeds are under 45-50mph to lock out AFM. M6 and D allows AFM to be active. I do not care for AFM; so that's why I lock it out while suburbia driving............and use the Range AFM delete for more open road driving. My tranny seems to like to lock up between 2nd and 3rd gear when accelerating normally. It'll hang off engaging until later if I put my foot down though.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
Yes- 2016 Silverado Mileage
My truck doesn't use any oil. Catch Can install took me about 1 hour. Range AFM delete is a module that plugs into the OBD port and keeps the truck from switching into V4 mode. That's all it does.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
Here's the link. I run just the "basic" can, as I'm cheap. http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/standard-catch-cans/ I'm at 22,5xx miles now..............have never been low on oil. I check frequently also. I also lock out V-4 by using M5 around suburbia, and the Range AFM delete device for longer open road trips.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
That is correct on both your questions. It's not really an "oil life monitor" as it doesn't "test" the oil. Should be called the "oil change reminder"; and it's at 7500 mile intervals on this truck. I'm running Mobile 1 0W20 full synthetic. I'm sure that if I did oil analysis, I could push it out to 10-12000 miles easily. But these GDI engines like to coke the valves with PCV oil residue; and it's a good idea not to let the oil package wear too low. One of the reasons I'm running a "catch can"..............to keep as much of those oil vapors out of the intake manifold.- New business
I can read the words..............but have no idea what was said. "Puter talk is a foreign language.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
Same here!!! I've driven to Orlando, FL twice, Baton Rouge, LA, Stevens Point, WI, Maquoketa, IA, and Paducah, KY.................all last year. Not to mention the trailer towing around suburbia around here. If'n these miles were put on MightyWhitey, she'd have 270,000+ miles on her.- 2016 Silverado Mileage
22,3xx miles after 1 year of ownership. Gonna do the 3rd scheduled oil change later today after it cools down outside. Not a bad truck. It's got limitations; it ain't a Cummins, but it does good for what I need it to do. Mileage isn't as good around town as my '04.5 Cummins was, but she's a bit better overall on average on the highway empty.- Bears in the trash? Problem solved!
Thought this was gonna be a Packer/Bears rivalry thing!!!- P or LT tires on 2013 Silverado 1500 1/2 Ton
My 2016 has P-rated tires; P265/70 17 and they're just OK with my small work trailer (3500lbs.) and my fishing boat (2500lbs.).- 2016 Silverado
I've not done any long distance towing. Just my usual around suburbia stuff...............that usually is in the 15-17mpg range if there's a lot of towing on that tank. My work trailer isn't that heavy; only about 3500lbs., but it's tall and catches a lot of air. - E15
