I dunno guys..................I've never had a problem getting long life from my tires since I've been driving. I was driving critters to market shortly after getting my DL. You cannot race to the slaughter house with critters.............as they will not "grade" like they should if stressed on the drive!!!! I know I've told y'all this before.................I got 125.000 miles of the OEM Michelin LTX M&S in size LT245/75 16E on my '99!! It was a rarity that that truck didn't have a trailer in tow. I would say the 50-60% of the miles on those tires were towing. People do say I drive like a "grey-hair" though.

Miles on my Cooper Discoverer AT3's in the stock size LT 265/70 17E now. Probably got 5/16's of tread left on average. They've been really good tires for me. Just saying, not arguing.

Headlight Bulbs
It's been more than a few years since I've had to replace the bulbs...............................but "Holy Price Hike Batman"!!!!!! $25.99 for 2 Sylvania bulbs..................the low end ones to boot. Mid-range was $34.99 and the "top of the line" ones were $54.99!!!!

Water Pump Finally
Did that with the one that's leaking now!!! How much coolant do I need to drain to change this thing?? I replaced the one last year after I drained the system to replace the coolant with fresh. I shouldn't need to drain the whole system, correct???

Water Pump Finally
OK; I've got a leak that looks a lot like the water pump again.........................rusty colored water that smells of coolant on the front corner passenger side of engine. I haven't done the snooping around the front of the engine yet to confirm, but it probably is. OK John, are you satisfied???!!! Probably order an OEM one from Geno's garage.

Check out the junk yards around your place............if any.

Running a bit warm
Have you done Mikes crankcase vent relocation Mod???? The OEM vent spews oily vapor that gets stuck to the cooling fins on the radiator, which attracts everything else (dust, pollen, dog hair, cattail fluff, etc).............which makes for a radiator that don't cool worth a crap. I used to treat my '99 with some detergent in a spray bottle followed by the garden hose to clean the "goop" from the fins on the radiator.

NV4500 finally died...
Don't know how I missed this thread from the start!!!! Anyhow, I agree with John in this above^^^^^ quote. I've owned 2 Dodge/Cummins trucks.................a '99 with the NV4500 and currently a '04.5 with the NV5600. IMNTBHO, the NV5600 is vastly superior for towing. I don't tow heavy like many of y'all do, but I do tow a lot. The NV5600 is way better towing my 3-4000lbs. work trailer around vs. the NV4500 due to the extra gear between 1st and 4th. Good luck with your tranny Mike!!

That said; if I may ask, how old are you??? I was 2 days short of my 12th birthday, and I remember this like it was yesterday. It was weird then..................we'd been disgraced in Vietnam (due to politics) just a few years prior, had the Watergate thing, Nixon resigning the Presidency, President Ford had an assassination attempt on his life, and we were coming up on the bicentennial of our country. Mixed up all around.................- April 25, 1976
It'll be 40 years ago in a few days that the "Greatest Play in Major League Baseball" occurred. I never get tired of seeing this...............hope y'all are the same way. Posting this early, as I'll be away on the actual anniversary................... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJe2Ew-rhx8- Look What I Found
It was ugly for sure. But get this...................I hung around after the paramedics and popo got there. The paramedics are cutting his pants, boot laces and then socks off of him when they discover and "ankle bracelet"!!!!!!! Well that's when "Mom" decides to tell them that he' on probation!!!!! Good Lord..................- Look What I Found
This occurrence happened a week ago today; but I was pressed for time, as I was flying out to FL in about 8 hours from when this happened. Or I would've posted it then!!! Flying to FL to shoe some horses later that day............................about 11:00am after being domestic, and cleaning the house before I leave, I decide to take Dee, my CLF, for am quick walk. Well about 1 minute into our walk; I hear the cracking of wood, and a big thump on the ground. I know this sound as I cut wood and trees down for firewood to heat my home. When I heard this, I turned around and walked toward the sound.................................I was thinking that I may be able to get a "close to home" scrounge of firewood!!! Anyhow..............as I got closer to where the sound came from I see this.....................Walking exactly as you see this picture!! I'm thinking to myself.........................that wasn't like that this morning..............................as I had driven past there earlier. As I get closer, I can see a guy behind the ladder waving his arm etc. I quicken my pace.....................I do have my dog remember.............................get up close, and I see that he's pinned under the big limb........................his right leg is caught between the limb and the almost 90* bend in the ladder. I put Dee, my dog, on a sit/stay.........................and run over to the guy. I see that his right leg/ankle is bent in a position that's not normal...............as his leg is crushed between the ladder and the big limb. I try to move/lift the limb so that he can crawl out.................that wasn't happening...................I couldn't budge the limb as it was 12-14"in diameter. Then I hear his Mother screaming on the deck of the house............................I yell for her to call 911............................all while I'm talking with this guy to keep him awake and talking, so that he can tell me what's hurts etc. His Mother gets the 911 operator and then I'm relaying/yelling to her on the deck what his injuries are!!! I have her grab a few blankets as it was cold out......................and I didn't know what other injuries he had and I didn't want him to go into shock...............................he could've had a concussion, broken ribs, broken spine etc based on how he fell and was trapped by this limb. Get the blanket from his Mother..........................cover him with one, and roll one up to put under his head...........................all the while I'm talking to him, and making him talk to me.......................I was relaying to his Mother what the 911 operator was asking her also. Hear the siren after about 4-5 minutes.....................tell him that the paramedics will be here shortly.................................I gather up my dog........................who is still on a sit/stay.....................and walk into the street so that the paramedics can see where to come to. Took 3 paramedics/firemen on that limb to move it just enough to let another paramedic slide his leg out of there. Here's the FUBAR........................... He was cutting on this limb on a great big silver Maple with multiple trunks standing on a ladder 6-7' above the ground.......................he was attempting to cut one of these big limbs/trunks off WITHOUT A NOTCH and with just a BACK CUT!!!!!! Well the limb "barber-chaired" on him and kicked the ladder out from under him and did a number on his right, lower leg. Darwinism at its finest IMHO!!!! I still get a bit queazy if I think about how his leg looked.- Wood Burners
Sounds like you need to break into your wifes "lock box" and retrieve your testicles!!!! They're your kids also!!! That said, it's been really, really cold here in northern Illinois this first week of April. Had snow squalls most everyday this week with crazy strong winds!!! Stove is still going!!- Weepy JIC Fitting
In my fuel supply system. Do I just "snug it up a bit?? No tape or dope is supposed to be required on these fittings correct?? It's on the low pressure side......................the return to the fuel tank after the bypass valve/regulator.- Engine Vibration
I running at 128/1........................for years........................- Engine Vibration
I would counter that by saying that if I had "incomplete" combustion, that my mileage would suffer. That is not the case at with my truck. Now granted; I don't tow as heavy as you, but I tow a lot more than you. Just saying. I would guestimate that near 1/2 of the miles on my truck are towing miles.............................- What's This Going On???
Weird!!???- Engine Vibration
The mandate for "ultra low sulfur" fuel came after the the 3rd gens initially came out IIRC. John, you're one of the very few that has had issues. I dunno??!!!- Engine Vibration
Care to elaborate on this??!!! Lets get a discussion going!!- Engine Vibration
I've been putting in 1/2oz. of 2 stroke oil per 1 gallon of diesel in my '04.5 for years now. Usually fill up with 31-32 gallons, so right around 16oz. is what I dump in. I'm not real scientific about it either.................if an ounce more or an ounce less gets added, it's not a big deal. - April 25, 1976
