I like to do math by hand. I could do it on my I-phone; but then I'd have to find the calculator on the darn thing!!!!!! It's just a bit faster and easier if I round down the miles by not counting the tenths; and then just round up the gallons to the next tenth.............that way only one decimal place to account for in the math.........................and I also know that I got a RCH better mileage than the math shows!!! Just saying!!!

This tanks averaged in at 20.6mpg hand calculated. Wound up with 630 miles driven and stuffed the tank with 30.5 gallons of fuel. What I do when hand calculating mileage is to just take the WHOLE number of miles and eliminate the decimal. For instance, on this tank of fuel, I actually drove 630.7 miles. Then for the fuel; I round up the decimal. On this tank I filled up with 30.47 gallons.................rounded up to 30.5. This way; I'm actually getting slightly less fuel mileage than actual. 630 divided by 30.5 equals 20.6xx.

dead nv5600
That "extra gear" between 1st and OD is what makes the NV5600 the "cats dupe" for towing!! I've had both.........................nv5600=way better!!!!!

The 1st "mod" I ever did to my truck was the "fuel tank vent mod". When I first got my '04.5, it would take 27-28 gallons of diesel to "fill her up". After the "fuel tank vent mod"; when I fill up now, MightyWhitey takes 30-32 gallons. I think I have the "little" tank.

dead nv5600
Isn't there a place out of Texas that is rebuilding the NV5600's and creating a great reputation for themselves also??? Don't recall where I read that.

NV5600 Observation
It has been shown that the tranny does run warmer/hotter with the overfill, based on posts in other forums. It's been speculated that it's either due to foaming and the oil not cooling ............or that oil is now getting to areas it didn't before and removing the heat. I dunno.

Time for a power steering flush
Most any brand of "new" stuff will be better than the "old" stuff drained out.

Time for a power steering flush
Drink a beer....................re-read Mikes posts..............drink another beer....................and just do it. Power steering doesn't hold much fluid at all.

NV5600 Observation
Also; I'm approaching 160,000 miles on my SB Con OFE clutch. Just saying.

NV5600 Observation
My SB Con OFE makes a heck of a racket at idle without the clutch depressed. Still does with more oil also.

NV5600 Observation
Just got done changing out all the fluids on my truck. Diffs, tranny, transfer case, coolant, power steering, blinker and engine oil. It's been a consensus that one should overfill the NV5600 tranny by a quart for as long as I can remember. In the service manual, it says that the tranny will hold 9.5 pints, or 4.75 quarts. If you drain and refill on level ground until the fluid runs out the top bolt hole of the PTO cover, you'll likely only get about 4-4.25 quarts back in. Well when I drained mine, I let her drain over night on level ground. Only 5 quarts drained out. Could've sworn that I had more in there. Anyhow; when I refilled, this time I got 6.25 quarts in her. Jacked up the drivers side front a bit to get it in. Impression is that the truck shifts much more easily now. Not that my tranny shifted hard before, but, with the 1.5 quart overfill, it is definitely different.................for the better.

Ran off the highway...
When you tow as often as I do; I figure at least every other time out, that I'll be cut off etc. Whole bunch of asshats out there on the roads.
