  1. This truck is very solid in turns and such empty. It's got the "Snow Plow Prep Package", so the front springs are stiffer than normal. When I'm towing my trailer, any "side-to-side" motion, I think, is from the softer side walls of the P-rated tires. Will consider it though!! From the reading/research I've done, many think the oil catch can is a "NECESSITY" in any GDI engine as there is no spraying of fuel on the intake valves to keep them clean from PCV vapors collecting/frying on them. The oil catch can was put on to collect and condense those PCV vapors and to try to keep them out of the intake manifold/valves. Also from my reading and research; I didn't want to run into the "oil pumping" and "valve lifter" problems that seem to affect some AFM engines. Drove over 500 miles up and back to judge a retriever hunt test in Stevens Point, WI this past weekend. Left with about 140 miles on the tank of fuel..................of which about 65-70 were towing. The "lie-O-meter" in the truck read 17.5mpg when I left. 200 mile drive up on Friday, some back and forth to test sites and hotel between then and Sunday, and drove about half way back home before filling. Lie-O-meter was reading 22.5mpg when I filled.............hand calculated figured to 21.9. Left the "Range AFM delete" plugged in all weekend. Almost 22mpg from a V8 gasser with some towing miles on the tank is really good IMHO!!! And on a truck with less than 2000 miles on her!!! The switch to V4 is very smooth on my Chevy...................just don't want to gamble on the oil consumption or lifter problems.
  2. Looked, and drooled a bit. But at this time, with that APPS issue, and with the health problems Dad is having, I just needed to unload MightyWhitey and get into something new. I had my mind made up that it was a new truck that day. Didn't think I'd get anything near what they offered in trade for MightyWhitey. I dunno................I may keep this truck 2 years, or I may keep it 10. And truth be told, I really don't need the diesel anymore................I'm not towing anywhere near as much as I used to, and this truck handles my work trailer and boat just fine. They were willing to deal on this truck.................not so much on the Ecodiesels!! I did ask also!! They knocked off over 15% of the sticker and with the trade in of MW, I drove out spending only about 70% what I thought I would for a new truck that day!! Made it much easier to handle paying for the Line-X and the Camper shell!!! 4 MODS so far............... 1. Line-X the bed 2. Camper Shell 3. Oil Catch Can 4. Range AFM delete module
  3. All the back seat on MightyWhitey did was collect "stuff"!!! MeanGreen, my '99, was a regular cab. Miss that truck big time!! 8 foot bed............catch all!!! Truck had to fit in the garage also!!! I axed the gumbys that installed my top ...................how much it weighed.................................they said about 200lbs. total!!!! Does that sound correct??!!
  4. Here you go guys!! Be gentle..................this ain't no 3/4 ton like MightyWhitey was!!!!!
  5. Don't know anything about autos..................but from my reading on various forums, a "low stall speed" is desired for towing things!! Just saying!!
  6. I thought most of y'all only had 1 "dongle"!!!
  7. You's guys talking about your "dongles", makes me laugh!!!! This is a family website isn't it!!????
  8. Wanna get the "camper shell" on before pix; as that's the way the truck will be for all the time I own her!!! Getting it installed tomorrow!!! Stay tuned!!
  9. Third fill up today...................this tank netted 21.2mpg (hand calculated), while the display read 22.0mpg. Just saying.
  10. Have put 2 tanks of fuel thru my 2016 Silverado 4x4, with the 5.3GDI, 6speed auto now. First tank netted an even 19mpg (hand calculated..........overhead read 19.4) driving strictly in M5 to shut out 6th gear and avoid it going into V4 mode. This tank also included about 40 or so miles of towing my work trailer. Second tank netted me 22.2mpg (overhead reading 22.7) also driving strictly in M5 again. No trailer towing on this tank. Pretty nice so far.
  11. Yes..............twice over the years. The last time wasn't to far removed when I HAD to take it into the stealership last year around this time, because nothing I did with the Smarty or the tunes, checking grounds, etc. made a difference. I did talk with the tech that worked on my truck......................told him everything. I was online for hours researching stuff on this also........................connectors, splices, plugs etc. on our trucks. I'm not well enough versed in the geekie electronic field; and I didn't want to start pulling wiring harnesses apart......................so I broke down and took it to the stealer. They did replace the ECM.................I had the OEM unit secretly marked.........................this solved it until recently.................when it's gotten stupid HOT and HUMID here. Same outside conditions last year when this became unbearable. I dunno; and I don't have the expertise, patience, or time to FART around with this.................as MightyWhitey was my only vehicle. The weather conditions make me think that's the common problem.............but I'll never know now.
  12. With MightyWhitey rusting away before my eyes.......................and with the maintenance/parts I knew I'd have to put into her shortly............................it was time. If the P's were closer; not such a big deal, but they're an hour+ away!!! And the "emergency" situation scenario involving the P's was the kicker. I cannot be driving down and have the dead pedal thing happen.....................I won't let it happen.........................hence the new Chevy. The stealership I bought the Chevy from was within $300 of KBB and Edmunds on my trade worth.................that coupled with the dealer incentives and rebates.......................I got a really good truck and a great price IMHO. It tows my work trailer surprisingly well also!!!! Granted, it (work trailer) only goes around 3500lbs. though!!! Later
  13. Don't know quite how to type this delicately; so I'm just gonna type it.......... After a lot of soul searching and "hemming and hawing", I traded MightyWhitey and wound up buying a 2016 Chevy Silverado gasser. Really didn't want to, but I felt it was best both functionally and financially for me. Let me explain........ For the last year; I've been experiencing the P2121 etc. APPS codes on MightyWhitey. Got so bad that I took it to the dealer after setting the Smarty back to stock. New ECM solved it for a while...................but the variety of APPS codes have started popping up at random occasions and at the worst possible times. I cannot have that. Truck runs incredible until these codes pop; and then it's the dead pedal and/or hard fueling. I could never tow a trailer with this happening. My parents are elderly, and I go down often to be with them and do stuff for them.................60 miles away. Cannot have a truck that tosses a code and is essentially undrivable .................especially in an emergency. Also; I had the nagging thought of putting a fair amount of $$$$$ into her shortly.........................tires and brakes for sure; and then there was that nagging thing about injectors, front end work and clutch. 241,000 on OEM injectors, 100,000+ on the brakes, 170.000+ on ball joints and tie rod ends, 170,000 on the SB OFE clutch, etc. Not to mention that the rockers were about ready to start showing holes in them from rust; as well as the rear wheel wells. I'll still check in here, and spread my limited knowledge and BS around though. I will be putting up my Smarty for sale here shortly also. Thanks guys.
  14. It's for "Two Cycle Water Cooled". I'm guessing the "3" stands for the generation or improvement or the like.
  15. Fuel Boss mechanical all the way!!!
  16. In all honesty guys; I could probably get by with running only 12oz. or even only 8oz. of 2 stroke oil in my '04.5. Most every station that I buy fuel at has the sticker on the pump that reads essentially that the fuel is a bio-blend; with the bio being anywhere's from 5-20%!!! I guessing here that the actual ratio of the blend is dependent on market prices of bio and straight diesel. Just saying here. Mike..............It may not be posted on the pumps out by you, buy most everywhere that I travel around the country, there is the stickers on the diesel pumps indicating that it's a blend. Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, NoDak, SoDak, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, and Arkansas all have the stickers..........................Just saying, not arguing!!
  17. 694 miles on my last tank of fuel, filled up with just over 32 gallons of diesel for a 21.6mpg average. That's tossing in 16oz. of 2 stroke oil. I run a lower ratio of 2 stroke in my '04.5 HPCR than y'all with the VP44's.
  18. Like Mike said prior...................I started a thread over on CF years ago, that wound up being the BIGGEST thread on the site for years...................much to the chagrin of the MODS over there at the time. And to be totally honest here; I didn't come up with this myself, I first heard of running 2 stroke oil as a diesel fuel additive from a fellow on DieselRam.com.............................I then tried it, posted my positive findings on CF, and then Mike got on his steamroller and the rest is history!!! It's not listed as such, but 2 stroke IMNTBHO, acts as an anti-gel aid also in the cold months. 2 stroke oil is formulated to flow in "oil injected" snowmobile engines down to -50*F. So adding to diesel has to help IMHO. I've used nothing but 2 stroke oil as a fuel additive in my '04.5 since I started that thread...............10 years or so now. Almost 241,000 miles on MightyWhitey now
  19. 86.000 as of yesterday now!!
  20. I dunno Mike. But I would think the hood would need to be removed to get the engine hoist in there, and to buy you more room to work also.
  21. Without knowing how many miles on the truck; I'd say injectors first.................especially if he doesn't have 2 micron fuel filtration.
  22. See this thread I started in the 3rd gen area................https://mopar1973man.com/topic/11590-85000/#comment-137479
  23. Still that's a lot better than the "pothole" and "expansion joint" paving they do here in Illinoiz!!!
