Roadside Vehicle Inpections
Isn't the TSA a "federal" agency????? Why would a state gov. give the feds more power in his state???? Democrat gov.??? In Tennessee, does that give the TSA "police powers"??? AKA. detainment, arrest, etc.??? If not, I wouldn't give them the time of day.

Diys?
Because I did the "tone wheel mod" long before I ever got the Smarty. Just never rotated the tone wheel back. Also, because it (my truck) ain't broke the way it is, and I don't want to "fix" it until it is!!!!! JFYI, the way the tone wheel is made, there is some "slop" in it when you slide if onto the bolts even though it's keyed with a small pin on the end of the crank. So there is some variance (truck to truck) in timing even on trucks right off the assembly line. The way you advance the timing via the tone wheel, is to pull it off the truck, and file out the pin hole so that you essentially increase the "slop" in it when you reinstall it. When you go to tighten the bolts back down, you just need to make sure that is stays in the advanced position. As I said above, I filed the pin hole out so that hits the bolt holes of the wheel now when rotated all the way.

Diys?
That's why I run the default settings on my Smarty Revo....................SW5 mainly...............it doesn't advance the timing. My tone wheel is advanced all the way to the bolt holes. It's a couple of teeth on the wheel. I don't know how many degrees of advance that gives me, but when I did try the advanced timing with the Smarty+Tone Wheel Mod, I got some timing rattle. I didn't run it long enough to warm the truck up to see if it was only a cold engine thing; I changed back to stock timing right away.

Free or low cost (less than $100) Mods for an '04.5.......1. Fuel Tank Vent Mod..........makes filling your fuel tank much quicker and much more accurately.2. Stock Air Box Mod..........already mentioned above.3. Tone Wheel Mod............advances the static timing of the truck. Gives more "low end" oomf. May improve mileage.4. Ditch Factory Muffler........replace with straight pipe. With the kitty still on, won't be stupid loud. Back pressure. That's about all I can think of now. However, I will tell you this; if your truck still has the OEM lift pump on the back of the fuel filter housing, I'd replace that FIRST with a quality/proven system before I would do any of the free and cheap mods I listed. Those free and cheap mods ain't worth ____ if your LP dies and leaves you stranded!!! If you're on a budget, you don't want to have to get a tow.

19.5 wheel options (srw)
Are you a "hardcore" tower?????? If not, the 19.5's probably won't ever pay for themselves.......unless you put mileage on like CajFlynn!!!:smart:My personal opinion is pickup trucks with 19.5's and 22.5's look stupid. It's all about the, "Hey Look At Me" thing!!!!! I truly don't get it. Don't take this post personally either.........just venting because I had one with the big rig tires essentially cut me off the road yesterday!!!!:duh: I did give him the No. 1 salute as I gave him a "soot job" as I passed him though a bit further down the road!!!

Oil Truns Black Quick
Guys; I wish I could tell you more about those oil heaters, but I can't. I've seen a couple, but never really "looked" at them, if you know what I mean. One was in a farmers shop that I stopped by to ask him to hunt on his land, and the other is in the garage I take my truck to for the stuff that I'm not set up to do. But I will tell you this, these two that I've seen, the guys love them because of the amount of heat they put out.If you've got access to a lot of waste oil, the initial cost my be paid back pretty quick in the fuel/heating costs that you normally to pay what ever provider you use!! Don't just look at the initial cost of the unit. It's worth considering IMHO!!!

Oil Truns Black Quick
There are places that make/sell oil/waste oil heaters. A lot of people use them to heat garages, shops, sheds, etc. It's an option for you anyway. Or do you know someone that has that type of heater???

Tire Update
I've got just under 1,000 miles on these new Cooper Discoverer AT3's now. Pretty quick, huh??!!!Anyhow, I like them. They drive and handle just like the ATR's did; but get this, with less road noise!!!!! They are more aggressive than the ATR's, but they're quieter on the highway at cruising speed. I've not noticed any mileage loss either.............I'm just over 1/4 tank, and have almost 500 miles on it.They handle harvested corn pretty darn good too. Went on a goose hunt a week ago Saturday, and had to drive thru harvested corn on moist/frosty ground going in, and then damp wet ground going out. No problems. The tire seems to clean out really, really well for an AT tire............unlike the ATR's.:2cents:So far so good IMHO!!!

Intake Air Temp
I just replaced my first thermostat (OEM) on my '04.5 when I did the 150,000 mile maintenance stuff a few months ago. The old one was functioning fine........I just figured that since it was over 7 years old I'd replace it. I don't recall the brand of the new one I put in, but I got it from Geno's Garage. I saved the old one.

Air filters Pre-Filters
Yeah, they're pricey; but mine has lasted for at least 5 years. You could use your wifes or significant others pantyhose (can be crotchless, as only the leg part is used) but still these Outerwears fit better and are much, much tougher. They're probably a fair bit tighter in the weave so that is stops more dirt also.

Easy way for six pack abs!
Gasser, is that really you????? Your Mama must be real proud of you!!!! Judging by the size of that beer belly, he should get that tattoo removed and get one of a "half barrel" or a "keg" of beer instead!!!!! A lot of time, effort, and money went into building that!!!!

Check out this site for the filter condoms. I've run one of these on mine for a long time now. In fact, I need a new one, because the elastic broke down and finally gave way. There you go........ www.outerwearsracing.com/

Down Tube?
This is just my "never to be humble opinion"; but I really, really think the Stealership was talking about the crankcase breather tube. Had the OP OKed the work, all that would've been done was to spray down the breather tube with brake parts cleaner, clean off the oil/road grime, and dry it to make it look new again!!! Scam, big scam.

Down Tube?
I wouldn't let those SOB's near my truck after that BS!!!! Take it some place else pronto or do the work yourself!!!!

Batten Down The Hatches!
It's actually been a very, very mild fall so far around my parts. I've got all my wood split and in the shed. Gonna get a nice load of oak over Thanksgiving also. For the last few weeks, it's been in the 50's around here. I've heard from numerous places, that this winter is supposed to be very cold and snowy around here. We'll see!!!

Strange benefits of 2-cycle oil
x2 here. Since I've started using the 2 stroke oil, I've used no additive but 2 stroke oil. Even in the winter months here. And we'll see -10*F fairly often and -20*F occasionally in the winter here. In fact, I've never used any of the "so called" winter diesel fuel conditioners that are sold.........even back when I drove the '99. Never a problem.

Are they greaseable or not ?
I've looked several times over the years to find that grease point. I never could. Almost 155,000 now. The shop that did my rear driveshaft U-joints earlier this year, said the fronts were fine. 7.5 years and no grease!!!!! Probably just jinxed myself now!!!

Tire Update
I got the Cooper Discoverer AT3's put on this afternoon. They wound up being $994.xx out the door; but they're offering a $75.00 mail in rebate on selected Cooper tires, so essentially they came out to just under $920.xx!!!!:spend: Thats actually about $20.00 less than I paid for the ATR's 3.5 years ago!!!!They look pretty sharp. They are more aggressive than the ATR's I had on, but they're not loud going down the road. I'll get some pix on here shortly. Wound up with almost 74,000 miles on the ATR's, but they were riding real hard due to the lack of tread. Not good with winter and snow not far off. These new ones make the crappy roads around me almost seem smooth!!!! Not!!!!! But the ride is much smoother.

Rail pressure
Is your truck an '04 or '04.5???? If it's an '04, 5000psi at idle is perfectly normal. The '04.5+ idle at 6500psi. Plus or minus a bit. To maintain 65mph in my '04.5, I'm running about 16-17,500psi RP. That's normal.
-
Rail pressure
On my truck, whether it's cold or hot out, idle RP is around 6500PSI. The '03-'04's should be about 5000psi IIRC.On cold start up, my trucks RP is actually "HIGHER" than at normal idle RP.As said earlier, check your LP first. Then you should probably check your fuel filter/filters. If those are good, check your FCA.Could also be IAT sensor or a weak CP3.Any codes????How many miles on the truck???

Tire Update
Wow, I thought for sure I'd get a "smart ___" response to my "smart ___" response!!!!! Anyhow, yeah, I've got less than 1/4 +/- 1/64th or so" of tread left on my Cooper Discoverer ATR's. I didn't want to get "new" tires prior to my NoDak trip just because I didn't want the new tires throwing stones onto the rockers the whole trip. Been there and done that before, and my truck surely does show it!!! If I were coming into summer with these tires, I'd let them go. But, winter around here is only a few weeks away, and I've a got a rebate on these bad boys to boot. The rebate essentially pays for the mounting and balancng!!!!
