long cranking after AIRDOG INSTALL
The best thing to do is to take the line off that feeds the VP44. When you bump the engine and get the pump to run, opening the F/W sep. filter will not show you much. I think this will actually cause you to introduce air into the system and essentially will drain the pump area. The air should not go into the feed line though as the system has an air separator. This is just my theory though. :whistle:Taking off the supply line to the vp44 and putting it into a bucket will show you true flow of the AD. I personally run the supply line to the OEM fuel canister. There are many advantages to this IMO. There is another aspect of security you get passing the fuel through an extra filter, you can run your fuel pressure gauge off of it, you have use of the WIF light and it preheats the fuel. The only disadvantage to doing this is that the small steel line from the OEM canister to the vp44 is going to restrict flow. I'm going to look at doing a line between the vp44 and OEM canister like the airdog lines. This will increase the flow that is desired and also have the pressure needed.I agree with the idea of waiting until you have a FP gauge to get the info you need about what is doing what. It sounds like that you may have a problem with the vp44. I know that is something you dont want to hear, but it may very be that. The AD is functioning like it should. Although, the only other aspect to it is that the fuel pressure may be too high. You have failed to mention, or I have failed to see what AD you have. If you have a 100 or 150 I believe they have a coil spring with a ball for pressure regulation. The 165 is different. Do you have the AD2 or AD1 series? If you have an AD2 165, like me, you can always try what they recommend for setting fuel pressure. According to the book, you can screw the regulator in or out and then turn it whichever way so many times to have an approximate amount of fuel pressure.Just saying this just in case you might be interested in trying if you are adamant about working on it. You wont need very much at all to work on the AD, just a basic set of tools anyone should have if they are ever so mechanically inclined...

Sounds like you have done some homework... ...apply the aforementioned to congress. They have turned what our forefathers have created as a safety net for the people into a good cop, bad cop, charade.I prefer to align myself or identify myself as one who is more republican or conservative. Although, if you examine closely, it means nothing to these crooks anymore. If I had to now identify myself, I could myself a little more extreme and say Independent, Libertarian. We have to stop playing the, "which side are you gonna be on" game. We have to start and stay with the thinking in alignment to the principles our country was founded on. When we can remember and stay within the constitution and bill of rights, then, we can start to taste freedom. These cronies in office have disregarded our heritage and they hold to a different set of rules now. Throwing out the constitution and BOR and going towards whats convenient. Looking for security and handing freedom over....I'll get off the soap box, as I'm sure I'm preachin' to the choir.

Got it... :thumbup2:I'll adjust the pressure. So who want to see what the inside of the airdog pump looks like!- What to do when Noob.
WELCOME! Your gonna like this place alot! Always seems to be someone on and can usually get pretty quick responses. Alot of people here are pretty down to earth, and no need to fear with the ol' use the search button rhetoric. Cumminsforum.com is also a good place to go too if you have not done so. The more you can get feedback from a problem, the better. Considering it can sometimes be an emergency. Firstly, spell cummins right! Its Cummins, not cummings! Secondly, if you have not done so, be sure to visit: http://articles.mopar1973man.com/ ^There is TONS of good info to get on the right track with the truck. The guys have given you good solid info about the truck to start off with. Although, I will chime on two bits of VERY important info that could save you BIG time. Considering the year range of your truck, you need to look into: 1. Checking to see if you have the infamous 53 block. http://stamey.info/Truck/Cummins53BlockFAQ.htm 2. Killer dowel pin. See the bolt in the middle of the picture? Diagonally Up and left, there is that hole their. It has a hardened steel "pin" there that can come out and cause you to play the game of russian roulette. If the pin comes out it can be CATASTROPHIC! Get the front of the engine opened up and see if it has been fixed. http://articles.mopar1973man.com/general-cummins/34-engine-system/106-kdp-repairtiming-cover-leaks- HELP! Airdog 165 Blows fuses!
Correction, my fuel pressure is actually set at 22.5psi. Although, I suppose since you say 20 psi max, I will readjust it.Whats the reason for not exceeding 20?- Had one heck of a week "In a Good way"
...problem is, there are too many willfully ignorant people these days that give more of a hoot about their micro-world than they do about the real world. They would rather have their heads in the sand than take a good look without the rose-colored glasses. Only then, would they know that the people in our offices are the real scumbags.Too bad we can't go back to Washington's day, where they actually would be HUNG from a rope for practice of treason.- long cranking after AIRDOG INSTALL
I'll throw my in here...If you can't figure it out by the time the new week comes, give AirDog a call and see if they can help you diagnose the problem. They should be able to give you some good help as well.- HELP! Airdog 165 Blows fuses!
Okay, so I got the Airdog motor in the mail yesterday. I replaced the motor on the pump and it took maybe 30 minutes. The biggest part was the fact I lost probably 1/2 a gallon of diesel because of the fix. I only had a dirty bucket to dump it in, so I could not filter it off. :banghead:Makes for good fuel to get a good campfire going!A couple things I noticed though. The pump sounds much quieter than the older one. I also had to adjust the regulator to increase the fuel pressure. So I wonder if this is a bad thing or a good thing...After driving it a bit, I did a final pressure adjustment of 25psi at idle, and I believe it goes down to about 17-18psi at WOT. Is the idle pressure too high? I think it made the truck respond much better and quicker, it seems. When I talked to Kyle at Airdog, he said he was going to have a return shipping label for the bad pump. I did not have one in the box. :shrug:So I took the pump apart. It had some liquid in it that kind of smelled like ATF fluid and alot of copper residue in it.The bearings felt fine. It spins fine without the brushed end on, but when I put it back on and spin the shaft, it has a weird feeling like when bearings are bad. Eh, I was thinking about putting 12v to it to see how it runs...- Had one heck of a week "In a Good way"
Eh, after doing alot of personal study and deliberating on politics, I found that it is a charade. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think its all a puppet show. The real deals go on behind the closed doors...On a side note, Ron Paul can't be any worse of a president than what we have had before...- Structure Fire
So, what the hell. I might as well tell a story while I got time. The beginnings of another day have come and the sun is rising as I type. The nights winding down and its about midnight. I had decided it was bed time and I should go to bed anyways as the wife prefers me to go to bed with her. Suddenly, the pager starts buzzing and beeping as it always does whenever a 2nd alarm tone goes out.Dispatch gets on and notifies 2nd alarm and that there is a mutual aid structure fire on said street. Well, that put a stop to all the sleep this morning. I get up and race to put the clothes I just took off back on. I kiss the wife goodbye and tell her I love her. She gives me the usual quick lecture about being safe, and off I go. I get in the vehicle and speed off to the station doing 5 over in this quiet town. I get 2 blocks away before I get stopped by a passing train. Took about 8 min for the train to finally pass. Off I go!I pull into the lot, racing into the bay area and to the office to get the scoop on the situation. 6-8 people are already waiting around for the update. The on-duty Captain gives orders for the 4 people that showed before me. Darn, I think. All the effort for nothing...Last one to show comes back in, and asks if I have been on a fire. I said yes, and the captain says, dont hesitate, get geared up! I ran back out and throw on my turnouts and get into the rescue vehicle. 5 of us respond to the incident and it was about a 15-20 min drive to the incident. Updates trickle in on the radio about the fire.2-story dwelling with a 20x30 shop fully involved. Supposedly, through dispatch the fire started with a wood stove in the shop and fire extended to the dwelling. First engine on scene responds that it is fully involved. Our on-duty crew responds in an engine while we are en route.I take the steps to mentally prepare for the incident and go through all the training I received to be an effective person for the operation. Occassionally joking around to keep the stress level low. Multiple tones come out for ILS response but no word on any trapped individuals. We eventually arrive on-scene. Seems like we were out in BFE. We drive up a somewhat steep inclined driveway that winds back and forth, wondering when it is we will arrive at the scene. Suddenly we make a bend and see light from the flames emanating from the structure. Flashing lights and scene lights disturbing the dark woods. The long windy road made for a unique situation as it was inclined and icy.The final result of the response was:-5 Engines-2 Sheriffs-1 ALS response vehicle-1 Ambulance-1 Rescue vehicle-1 Chief, IC vehicleWe check in with IC for our tasks at hand. IC reports to pack up and head on over for assignment. We arrive about 1/8 mi up the road to the dwelling to check in with IC. We are assigned for an initial defensive operation. We take turns on a 1 3/4" handline with a smoothbore. Flooding water into the dwelling on the second story trying to extinguish the flames flickering out from within. The shop was next to the house and was constructed of sheetmetal and I-beam. Flames starting to dance from the right side of the shop that sheltered many questionable things. The homeowner must have been in the iron working trade or took pride in some sort of heavy machinery operations, repair and fabrication. Multiple cylinders of unknown gasses and right at the entrance, an oxyacetylene cutting setup. The shop door were closed, and had no way to pry them open to make any attack on the shop.We eventually got enough of the fire put down to allow us to do our primary search of the dwelling. 2 of us volunteers go in and complete the task and turn up with no trapped victims. The fire dept in charge of the district send two of their men to do an interior attack of the 2nd floor. After manning the attack line on the outside, me and my partner were assigned to begin the first stages of salvage and overhaul. We go on air and head up, looking for the hot spots. Digging around looking for those tell tale red embers. We work to the point of having to leave the dwelling for a rehab and a bottle exchange.I give an update to the chief on the situation and another 2-man crew goes up to further the salvage/overhaul operation. Once again, they come down, me and my partner go up. This time, we come in with a thermal imaging camera, looking for the hot spots, the technological way. I get assigned with the axe to tear out sheetrock on the ceiling and wall. As my partner mans the line. Another volunteer came as well and was assigned the task like me.We once again, drain our bottles of air, and are forced from the IDLH environment. At this point, a career man makes the call to finish the overhaul/salvage operation as there is no more danger of a re-ignition of the fire. We rehab once again and switch our bottles out. Now, me and my partner get assigned a unique task. The homeowner suffered from some sort of trauma, as he was evaluated by the paramedics. He needed his hearing aids though. We were assigned to trudge through the house looking for a needle in a haystack. We eventually find them on the kitchen counter. Still in good shape actually. But definitely not in the place they were supposed to be at.We go back into rehab once again. We receive news that another firefighter monitoring conditions on the shop and the attack, inhales phosgene from a refrigerator. Thankfully, he did not suffer anything serious from doing so.Our dept. was assigned no further tasks, and we began our cleanup on the incident. This guy was setup with a bad layout. All of the responding vehicles only had one way in and one way out. When you start stacking vehicles, theres no way to hold any water tender operations. Although, with all 5 engines present, we probably had about 8K gallons of water. The first due engine closest to the dwelling was able to draft from a nearby pond. If this homeowner did not have this pond on his property, located like it was, he would have been a cooked goose! His house was not a total loss. His shop is definitely a total loss. Although, only his 2nd story of the house will need doctored up.All in all, from response to finishing the cleanup at the station, it was a 5 hr ordeal. No reason for me to go to sleep considering it being so late in the new day. Might as well stay up and share my story of how I missed some good sleep!BUT, this make it fire no. 4 on my list and I finally got to man a hoseline and see an operation from A-Z. Not only that but also get to do some interior attack and be the major contributor to the salvage and overhaul operation.- Upset Facebook parent...
WHEW, ISX, that sure was a mouthful there! This is precisely the reason I do not have a facebook account. I don't want people from the past to find me and I do not want anything my potential employer to see that could in any way discredit me and get me fired from said job.If someone wants to get in touch, they can do it the old fashioned way. Send a letter through the pony express. Giddyup!- 92 GMC Sierra K1500
The truck or door? The truck looks like this: For the most part atleast.- Weird Science...
The reason behind it is because of the large temperature differential. When you throw it into the air, you increase the surface area of the water and effectively cool it that much quicker. Think of it as when you are in a nice and toasty house, then you step out into freezing weather.- So I Had Some Time
Hahaha! SEE! The addiction takes it toll quick! My first saw was given to me. Its an old Mculloch. It has more bark than bite. Then I bought a Stihl 044 and a newer 30cc Mcculloch for limbing. The 044 is a screamer. She can eat some wood now after doing a piston and jug rebuild with a small tune-up and a new 20" bar and chain. I gotta be real careful with her, as she can pull me around like a large dog.- Killer Dow Pin
Its an issue worth looking at. If you have not found out whether or not the fix has been performed, you will need to open it all up to find out. It is THE MOST important fix of all. If you decide the time taken to open it up to find out is not worth it, you are playing russian roulette. Its worth the piece of mind opening it up and fixing. I thank God everyday that I have been given the borrowed time I needed to do mine when I got mine. I waited like 2 months after I got the truck. If it had happened before then, I still would have been paying off the truck when all it could do is sit there waiting for a new engine. BTW, you dont need to spend gobs of money to do the repair. The KDP can be done with the modification of a large fender washer or some thick sheetmetal. Just have to make sure your pin has not fallen out or there is case damage.- 92 GMC Sierra K1500
Gots me this truck here and it needs a new drivers door. Not the most familiar with the year range of truck. What year range does this body style have so I can look for a driver door? I think its 90-94, right?- Question on damage to VP44?
^Yea, what he said.It sounds like you do not have a gauge to monitor the fuel pressure. Get one ASAP.Yes, it did cause damage to the vp44. How much though, thats another story. When I first got my Dodge, I did not know a single thing about it. I would have never bought it, if I knew better. I ran it around for 4 months doing quit a bit of driving. Anytime I got on the throttle, the fuel pressure needle would go right to 0. My vp44 to this day is the same since I bought it. I've had it less than a year, and it has not seized on me yet.Its like playing russian roulette, really. From now on, make sure you see no less than 14psi WOT or idle and put 2-stroke oil in the fuel at a ratio of 1:128 or 1oz of oil to 1 gallon of diesel. Keep your filters clean and your fuel to a premium.- Mechanical Lift Pump
http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-performance-parts-discussion/295482-got-glacier-diesel-fuel-boss-installed.html ^Check out the picture of the filter setup. Would not even need the AirDog base plate. If you were to take this setup, and have the AirDog draw straw upgrade kit installed with the filter setup, that would be a ironclad deal.- Seals?
Don't waste your time. You can get the crank seal by itself. The timing cover seal is no longer offered. All you can do is use BLACK RTV sealant for your timing cover. I paid about $50 or so for a "timing cover" gasket kit and there was no timing cover gasket! :banghead: It was an expensive crank seal....- Crankcase Vent - can't find it!

Start the truck and let it idle for a couple minutes. It should kick into high idle/3cyl. A resistor of 56k ohms or more will make it work.- Upset Facebook parent...
Yeah, I seen it. MSN had it on their frontpage. Thats why it has so many views.Alot of crazies out there though. He had to get attorney's to take care of all the copycat BS.- So I Had Some Time
CAD= Chainsaw ADdiction. You start getting into the firewood so much, you start buying saws for all sorts of stupid reasons. Never seem to serve much of its purpose, but its a chainsaw and thats all the reason you need! Yeah, that definitely sounds like you have a great honey pot and hit the jackpot. I would be letting whoever that owns the land know how grateful I'am with some sort of gift here and there. Get as much wood as you can too. Great aspect of security to know you can heat with your house for years when SHTF.- Wow!!!
HAHAH! Buddy I'm right up your alley with all that.Took a good GMC 1/2 ton and traded it in for $3k. Put $2k down and still owe $7k on my Dodge.Had to cut a deal with the car lot to get numerous things fixed on the truck before I would even give them the money for it. Then, had to get new tires, a/c service, brakes, seals, lift pump, tranny, etc. Still owe on it, and the rug can get pulled out from under me at anytime!- So I Had Some Time
DEAR God, I know what you mean! They are no fun to experience. Haha, we better start a firewood sub-forum soon. Dorkweed, looks like your going to have a CAD soon. I hear them fiskars are great to use, but a splitter is gonna look real appealing to you soon if you are gonna go with firewood as your main source of heat. That thermostat on the wall can get tempting sometimes to just kick on the NG. Well, it looks like you got some good firewood in your area, but that only looks shy of a rick or face cord. Your gonna need more then that! Here is a vid you guys will enjoy! - HELP! Airdog 165 Blows fuses!
