That time of year again
Yes, we are getting closer and closer to riding season. Time to start thinking about what needs to be done to get the bike or bikes back out and on the road. My Harley won't take much. Need to pull the battery, charge/test and reinstall. Do my normal checks and adjustments and so on. This year I am thinking about getting the old Honda Gold Wing back out for at least a few good rides. By that I mean more than just around the block a few times. I need to get her out and stretch her legs a bit. I have been neglecting her since I bought the Harley in 2013. It's a good old bike, all original (save for the seat and sissy bar) and a decent runner. Just lost interest once I bought the Wide Glide. The Honda will need a bit more attention. An oil change is a must, checking tires, brakes and clutch adjustment. Possibly change the timing belts as well, been about 15 years since last changed. And of course they will both need cleaned and detailed to look their best. I'm looking forward to getting some seat time on both of them this year. I may catch a bit of crap from friends about riding the Honda again but I appreciate the old stuff and think it's cool just having old iron on the road regardless of its origins. The Honda is a 1977 model GL1000 (Gold Wing) and its just fun to ride and it does actually get some attention from those that know what it is.

My Personal Opinion
Glad to hear all went well! Seems your meeting alot of supportive people on your journey, that's very good. It's nice to hear a story with a positive tone for a change. Seems these days the world is just packed with negativity everywhere you turn. Gets depressing at times.

Pilothouse/RAM3500 build
The economy is hindering everyone. I have my truck and a list of wants and needs for her but can't seem to find the time or money. I'd really like to get started on rust repair soon before it gets out if hand. There are also mechanical upgrades I like to make for longevity. The price of just living is cutting into everything.

New Battery Cables
While your into all the wiring, if you have not yet done the w-t ground mod it would be a good time.

Finally decided to add cupholders! We shall see.
I did, I just grabbed the pin that it latches to and backed it out some til it latched. It's threaded in there so easy fix.

Anyone close have a smarty I can borrow?
I think we're nearing the end of our cold weather around here. Not sure I would know if it worked if I did borrow a smarty.

I've been thinking about one for a while. They were priced close to $50 for a long time. I didn't feel this piece of plastic was worth that much. Here lately they have been coming down quite a bit, when I saw it for $21 and change I figured I'd give it a try.

Well @Tractormanyour in luck. I had to run to the store for smokes so I got to drive it. I even purchased a bottle of root beer to place in it to check for interference. AND....I even took some pics for you. So far the only thing i really noticed is that my right thigh will reast against the extended cupholder. Not a big deal, i can get used to that. Other than that little thing i like it. I do have to say though, if you try to place tour cell phone in the little slot closest to you, that dont work. The phone gets in the way. anyway, heres some pics. 2nd gear 4th gear Reverse And 2nd with a pop bottle in the tray 4th gear And reverse I don't know why the 1st pic flipped upside down. As you can see it really does not get in the way of shifting a manual trans. Possibly if I had my 32oz coffee cup but we shall see. For the $22 spent, it is well worth it so far.

@kbf98520, no I don't have a tuner.....yet. eventually I'd like to invest in a quad adrenaline but they don't come cheap. @Tractorman, that's a nice little setup. I may consider just doing something like that. I like that it helps a/c in the summer as well.

Anyone close have a smarty I can borrow?
I've been wanting to get the high idle enabled in my truck, dealer wants more than I think it's worth so next option is to get a smarty and plug it in which will enable this feature. I know DAP will "rent" them out for this but you basically buy it then return it which ties up $650+ until they get it back. Figured I'd ask if someone has one I could borrow to get this enabled.

Annnndddd......done. Not bad, it didn't snap in like I hoped but for $20 I'm not complaining. Had to put a few screws in it to hold it tight and adjust the striker for the lid closure. All in all I like it. After moving through the shift pattern I believe there could be a little interference between the shifter and a soda bottle if it's in the slot closer to the driver. I'll know next time I drive the truck. Still, for the added convenience, especially on a longer drive where shifting isn't so frequent I think it was worth it. This is where I put the screws as to not interfere with the lid closing.

I finally decided to buy a center console extension to add cupholders to my truck. I've been looking at them for a while but couldn't stomach the $50 price tag. Recently the price has been dropping. I picked this up for $22 from Amazon. I haven't installed it yet. I am concerned about clearance while shifting. (5 speed). I'll get pics once installed and report back if there are issues or not.

New rubber for the old girl
Seems decent to me. Worked just fine. My son used it on his bike as well. If something is gonna break it'll be when he is using it. Lol

My Personal Opinion
You have friends that support you if only by being there to talk/listen. You also have friends and people that count on you. You still have purpose, you still have goals. This is a rough time for you on several fronts. It's very challenging I'm sure. I pretend I have an idea of what your going through, I don't. Only from what you've told me. We've talked at length on occasion and not always about cancer or trucks. Just glad it shifts your train of thought to something else other than your health. And @jlwelding, I never knew you went through all of that. Glad you made it brother!

NV450 5speed blew at 184k miles.
We were laying on our backs fir the most part. It did kind of suck but sometimes you just do what ya gotta do to get the job done.

I did mine in my gravel driveway. I laid a large piece of plywood under the truck to have a hard sufa e for the floor jack to roll on. I removed the trans with that. It worked well. I tore it all down myself. When reinstalling I had my boys come over to help. I'll warn you, that trans is HEAVY. They run about 200lbs. When reinstalling it was a bit of a fight with the new shafts, new clutch. The new machined splines and such just don't glide in, they tend to be a bit sticky. It was worth the effort. Had I not flipped the 1st gear shift collar the wrong way this would have been perfect. So far she shifts like butter. The clutch is broken in now and smooth. Even being heavy duty the clutch takes no more effort than the oem.
