  1. I was talked into it on my car & wish I had not. In my opinion it stirs up any dirt & such but is done through the dipstick so the shop doesn't have to do any real work like changing the filter or removing & replacing the transmission pan & gasket & resealing properly. Your pan could be full of chips & you'd never know it. They can't adjust the bands.IMHO, this allows oil change type places to charge for another service... without really getting their hands dirty. If you are going to bother, I'd suggest going to a qualified transmission shop & at least get proper service.
  2. Whole West looks like a giant weinie roast! Stay Safe!
  3. I'll throw this out... a wedge shaped (side view) box. Velcro or sticky install. Choice of locations either on top of steering column or knee panel. Might even fit in front of the instrument bezel. I had no trouble routing wires neatly around the steering column. No holes!! Or remove face plate, reverse housing/flip switch block over, reinstall face plate. Maximum flexibility for custom installs. Less is more!Power on with key. Different color LEDs for IAT or stock? I'd be OK with stick on labels. My $1000 radar system came with 2 stick on labels depending on orientation.
  4. The base for my installed Escort radar detect system is sticky velcroed to top of the column. It's a good plan.
  5. What about a switch box that can clip to the edge of the knee panel without holes or under the steering column with the existing screw. My 01 dash looks the same as the one pictured except I have a useless storage pocket with no door & no power socket (If that is that what I'm seeing)... but it's too far for me to reach easily. I built my own GPS mount to go over the air vent.
  6. I drilled a hole in my right knee panel, right next to my XZT switch, drilled mounted there.Funny thing... I keep seeing too good to be true "MPG chips" for all sorts of gas vehicles... including my Cirrus. Upon further research, they are just IAT foolers of some sort. I bet most folks have no clue what they are or when to use them.
  7. I love my home built MPG (IAT fooler). It's so handy in cooler weather. It's even nice to use the grid heaters on my first morning start, then go into MPG for the rest of the day. Having it plug & play with instructions will be a great advantage to the Cummins community.
  8. I'm still exploring this with my used trailer. I have learned a bit about VIN numbers. First digit 1 or 4 = USA buildSecond digit = maker. I find NO LISTING for my X second digit. Guessing trailer makers don't have the volume to justify their own letter identifier. So when I try to validate my VIN the number is spit out as ERROR!
  9. This is Soooo great. I'm trying to straighten out a camper title / registration. This might be a big help. I found the 4.99 VIN check place. - - - Updated - - - I tried the precheck validation with the camper VIN but none recognized the format. I keep getting error messages. Like Tony (the Tiger) says G-R-E-A-T!!
  10. Seems to me... the water source must be above the devise. The water flow through the devise creates suction & moves outside water as well. Like a siphon. Or a scuba airlift (see Jacques Cousteau). They surface air hose injected compressed air into a large tube... the expanding bubble created suction as it rose, sucking silt & artifacts off the sea bed. Works better the deeper you are.
  11. I think gas axe is when you cut the offending part down the middle... with the gas axe!
  12. I'd look into foam board for skirting. It's possible to roughen it & go over it with stucco for a nice look. Sheila did our outside foundation foam with stucco / cement finish & it's needed touch up thanks to chickens and mice but has weathered nearly 15 years. Any skirting should have a removeable access hatch built in. Screw panels are fine. I knew the knowledgeable prior owner of my long ago Scamper 5er... (actually my ex-inlaws). It was owned for a short time by another fellow who told me he had not used it. He neglected to say he'd not winterized it. The piping was all copper tubing with flairs & every piece of it was split. If I'd known that, I'd have not purchased at that price. What a Dip Fork!!I replaced the piping with Quest (squeak) compression fittings & tubing. The Quest (polybutylene) grey plastic tubing was subject to a class action lawsuit & recall when plumbers enclosed it in house walls (where the tubing leaked) instead of boats & campers where it was well suited and serviceable. The tubing is no longer available but the fittings can be had & if carefully assembled still work well. The fittings can use Pex tubing or copper or mates with standard plumbing threaded connectors
  13. Insulating the under floor is great if you can & certainly should try. Around here (New England) it's pretty standard technique for stationary trailers to have temporary skirts either wood or better, insulating board, from the trailer body to the ground. This stops the air flow under the trailer so the heat loss is reduced from the floors. The panels can be sectioned & joined with a wood strip & screws... can be removed & reused if you move the trailer. I've seen the skirts dug into the earth n small ditches & backfilled to close gaps. I've seen hay bales used the same. Dry hay is good insulation. I never looked into it as far as plastic sheeting over it or something. (Of course the mice will thank you for it.) It can be fitted around utilities. Because I knew I was moving my old trailer, I didn't do those things & paid the price for it.
  14. Another cannon purchased. You can see the twin on Henry Hudson's replica 'Half Moon'. I own one of 3 made. http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?llr=ofwsopdab&v=001vumIjKLl6-9kMuaX_6IR2mos1_ArLeNtGZZxEzd2kmqHvC8vyBBsUxfaRzKmYV5ttuQg26vyPn7Hd201GT6GFsqYYBRoA1JTRPWrAfovENyBJz3JDSrtdsAbN9IauDRSor_ZHnSvz6zJDyZkFUPezcBksjONtWCw1n5jZcmzn6k7po9ViGWdM-aFYFiLB4y0rQRdTSNItKpukmhAy7TU1gAtL4eEjwf7MtyRjsCWp0BX9NXR78n7Hyd9hdQZM5COGiDL3dPxiZY%3D Picture below #3. Another "mug gun" 1.5" bore. Load yet to be determined. Starting testing at 750 grains of black powder.
  15. I'm dumb... slow on the uptake this morning... my old mechanic called it a smoke wrench!!
  16. So long ago, I wrapped my water in line with heat tape & FG insulation wrap. For the amount of water I used, a 5 gal camper jug on the counter would have sufficed. I really wanted to keep water for the toilet... which is he line which froze! It pushed the fittings apart during the night. Thawed during the day. When I returned, the water was running out the door near the rear. I shut the in line off first. High water was about 6" in there. Later had to replace the bathroom floor. We kept the trailer a few more years but seldom used it & gave it away.
  17. How do you lose a center cap? Break it removing or drive over it.
  18. I am actually satisfied with my stock (non-sport) lights but mine is 01 and and low miles. My Cirrus is getting cloudy now. There isn't room behind the grill on our diesel trucks, the Cummins is longer than other power choices. I think the sport lights are a slick upgrade & fit right in.
  19. For the record... 4.10 ratio with RE47 automatic... I'll turn +/- 2000 at 65 in OD. May give a clue to your ratio.
  20. Running empty on a nice secondary route, I can get OD even below 45 (4.10 ratio). I get my best mpg loafing along this way. Sometimes it will kick down for slight hills... but it's working nicely.
  21. I saw the story in the news last night. They are saying the air bag module captures the last few seconds before deployment to determine correct operation. Other data can be gathered from the cars self diagnostic... OBD2. What scares me is insurance companies who want you to volunteer to plug a devise into your OBD2 port which tells them speed, acceleration & braking... not necessary when you are on a highway & when you are not. I've heard some devises track location... have cancelled insurance on people who claimed to garage their vehicle but were not or parked in one community but were not. So devise must have GPS (they claim not) or phone tower locator alternative. If I have a serious crash & the insurance company takes possession of the vehicle, they can down load the data. I'll not be plugging a tracker into my vehicle. It's none of their business if I spend my lunch break at a strip club or with a bimbo! Just saying. I'd be leery of giving an adjuster unsupervised access to a crashed vehicle. What about if it's in an auto body shop?
  22. The electric fans are not recommended for towing... I had installed a solid mounted fan with thin stainless flex blades on an earlier GMC gas truck & it worked good. The blades would flatten out after a certain RPM. I don't see Flexilite offering them anymore however.
  23. I was staying in my very used SCAMPER 5er. prior to getting married (Dec 30th). Damn cold. The propane was not reliable. The campground was limiting the power so my electric heaters were not keeping up. I had the Quest piping freeze (I'd replaced the flared copper that a previous owner had let freeze) & pushed the couplings apart. I had much experience with Quest compression lines in boats & they still work fine... just not appropriate closed into walls. I went to dry camping after that as my now wife (with 2 young children) was a mile down the road. I had the tire on planks so it wouldn't freeze to the ground & within 2 days of our wedding I towed the trailer out through 12" of snow... with Chevy C30. The campground thought they were going to tag me for storage all winter! In retrospect, it was very unpleasant & there must have been a better way. Enclosing underneath in foam sheets would have helped a lot to cut the airflow underneath. My present Toyhauler is a California unit. OK for what we do. Not insulated underneath, exposed tanks. Not suitable for cold weather.
  24. Actually machine shops are not receptive to building cannons unless they are into them themselves. Black powder... REAL black powder... is an explosive. Perhaps they are afraid if the liability or uncertain of the legal issues. I see news stories on a regular basis of people blowing themselves or others up with cannon. The last cannon was "built" by a machinist who is into cannons but not authentic reproductions. Instead of contacting me, he just invented a different un-authentic way of doing it. As a re-enactor, doing public demonstrations... I can't use something that doesn't look right. So I had to cut it apart. I can't turn a long cannon barrel but I have my own Southbend lathe & eventually I'll gather what I need to make it right. My SIL just retired from Electric Boat, so I can get any welding done. My buddy is a blacksmith, so we have that part covered too. - - - Updated - - - I was organizing photos & came upon these from 4th of July 2011. Firing salutes over the pond... previous 18" bronze swivel. (Now under new management) Data; 1.25" bore, charge 300 grns Goex cannon Fire in the hole! A bit of recoil. Rockin cannon! Smoke & fire! Mount in the air on this one too. Really glad the gun did not go in the pond! This 18" bronze swivel cannon (1.25 bore) sold very quickly... I traded up to a 24" bronze swivel cannon with 1.75" bore...
  25. An Uncle had mysterious episodes... docs could not figure out. Finally the doc was chatting with him is the hospital lobby waiting for the car when he blacked out. The veins in his neck were clogged. Surgery was done which corrected it & he lived out his life. My heart is good, it's just the MS which sorks. I am unusual among males... as a younger man (62 now) I avoided doctors & when I went, they couldn't find the source of my problems. Probably MS in it's early stages... An ER is a poor place for care unless there's a lot of blood spilt or a heart attack... a good Primary Care doctor is a great asset.
