  1. I'm trying to convince him that he needs an old class 8 and a flatbed. Both can be had for less than the sticker on a new megacab. Owning a 2 stroke detroit is on my bucket list. A Brigadier preferably.
  2. Understatement. A 77mm should make a nice cool 600hp.
  3. Neighbor bought a 3.55 truck in late 96 and a 4.10 truck (mine) in early 97. They were identical other than color, they both even had a Banks Get Kit installed with the different turbine housing and fuel plate. The 4.10 would outpull the 3.55, no surprises there. Once you got above about 25k, the difference really started to show. My neighbor finally just stopped using the 96 for towing. It would consistently show up 3-5 minutes later every trip, and he was doing about 4,000 round bales a year. Said he has crossed scales at 33k with pecans and (educated guessing) got closer to 40k hauling hay on a 40' trailer(~10k trailer, 21x round bales @ 1200 each, and truck). Hauling 23 bales has happened, he says he doesn't like doing that. Iirc, the B series Cummins is rated for 35k max. Higher than that, they want to sell you a C series. If there is a limit, I think my neighbor has found it. He hauls with a 2013 3500 mega cab auto now..... or the 03 CR.
  4. I don't look forward to paying for the CARES act. I personally don't see how the Dems or Reps have and plan to decrease spending or make a neutral budget anytime in the future. Republicans say that they do, but short of the state level, it just doesn't happen. Tennessee has a YOY balanced budget, by contrast to the federal gov who seems to be stuck in full on growth mode with no end in sight, if growth stops for some outside reason, kinda screwed. Kinda like that f150 between the two buses. Your money should be safe in assets. The next 6 months are going to be very telling. I'm trying to convince my mother to hang onto the second house till this blows over. No use in losing 20% on the value in cash in 2 years.
  5. The rod is an extension of the brake pedal. It should not prevent install. The master has a pretty heavy spring inside and should push the rod back out. Its not impossible, but you would have a very hard time getting any fluid out of a system that isn't allowing the fluid to return, or fill the cylinder in the master.
  6. I was saying 21+ the truck(7300ish). A friend bought a 2wd dually 5spd with 3.55's. Compare to him, I can get to highway speed about 15 seconds faster. Same 35ft trailer, same 17 roles of hay. Still, I want his gears (or yours). Just add some more go pedal, when you smell clutch, back it off a 1/4 turn. My top speed is currently 95. I want more like 110.
  7. In this particular case, no. In our founding documents, we may only involve in the traditional stock market... and only long term. A month or so back, we had to have an answer as to why we were sitting on 40k cash on a 5% up day in the market. We are currently managing almost $800,000. The idea is experiential learning and making industry connections in firms. The UC Foundation which gave the initial funding ($250,000) and is the manager of the university's private endowment. They set the rules. We have a large group of advisors that are professors and industry professionals including the president of a local firm. I say all of that to say they we pay attention to as much of the market as possible. Currently, there are sectors of that market seeing huge gains, mostly tech, mostly the the big FAANG. The bond market (US Bonds) has very low yields currently, and are not attractive when you can move funds very quickly(instantaneously if need be) but usually within hours or days. They are considered the very benchmark for the entire market because (normally) they would yield about 2-2.5% just beating out the pace of inflation. US Bonds are the safest asset on the planet. We are currently up almost 17% YOY currently, even with the downturn. It would be hard to tell clients that you made only 1% over inflation if you were a firm, so we treat it like we have clients we have to answer to, and we do, the UC Board of Trustees. We did pull money out during the downturn, almost $200,000, but we were almost all back in by July. The scariest prospect that we are facing now, it's not a democrat... It is inflation.... or deflation.... or default. With the 22 trillion that the governments of the world have spent on ole rona, there are quite a few economists that are worried we will slip into something like the mid 70's through the early 80's where we had double digit inflation and no job growth (Surely Jag and Mopar... and several others remember that to some degree) deemed stagflation. It could also go into deflation with a huge demand pull market contraction, or governments start defaulting on bond payments. The world governments have never taken action like this to prop up the markets, and really, it wasn't until the late 30's that governments started really taking charge of the markets since most people were no longer almost exclusively in agriculture. In many ways, we are in very uncharted territory. It honestly looks like a good spike in inflation is going to be the most likely case. If deflation is right, the market is way too expensive and will see a huge crash, but if the market is right, we may see the some of the highest levels of inflation ever(to us at least). Inflation is honestly the best outcome, and most likely, I cannot tell you how to place your bets, but it is about to get nasty. Deflation means hold cash, inflation means hold stocks and such. My personal opinion says the market is overpriced in many ways(it's very complicated). I do not think this is over, but I cannot ignore the gains to be made. (My personal account is up 10% for the month) When 'if' the market starts to turn, we will act according. There are some rumblings of a crash, which doesn't seem very likely. We have essentially reached a point of no return. The government would have to dump more money on the fire, basically fighting oil well fires with explosives. Without the CARES act (and many like it world wide) we would very likely be in a severe recession currently. I continue to come across people every day who think that the virus is a ploy or some kind of joke. Even people who deal with it daily. The rest of the world doesn't spend more than the entire US GDP for one year on a political ploy. The fact that we are not on the brink of nuclear war is proof of that. We have the luxury of worrying about domestic matters like riots and when the uber eats guy will show up. Markets as a whole are mostly back to their February highs. Bond markets have improved yield from their lows indicating a start to recovery. This whole thing is going to be one of those events that are going to rewrite the economics text books again. Is the market actually already accounting for inflation with these huge 'gains'? Are they gains if they only going up because inflation is high?
  8. That egt is insane. I have pulled my 97 12v on a 40ft gooseneck with a bunch of other stuff with my 2012 6.7 (grossed 25k lbs) and got 11.5mpg on my trip and never broke 1400* (emissions can run it a lot higher). And that was up Mont Eagle Mountain with a 6% grade. I dropped to 45-50 and was on the floor, never came close to overheating. My 2012 has 285/75/16's (33"). Neighbor with an 03 Cummins CR on 33"s gets about 14mpg hauling 20-30k lbs of hay in the flat lands. Your mileage is really bad, even for a lift and bigger tires. Agreed, injectors are primary suspect. Also..... a clogged catalytic converter could be it, Dodge has a really spotty history with putting cats on these trucks so yours may not have had one. My 12 valve did. Neighbors 12v does, his 03 CR doesn't. Fix the mileage before throwing twins at the problem. What's your power goal, 500 at the wheels?
  9. There are a considerable number of people in college that are working hard, but unfortunately, many aren't. I have come to the conclusion (some humanities studies excluded) that the colleges do not do much to poison..... it is the fellow students. It starts at home. It always starts at home. People are incredibly lazy these days.... and god forbid they have to work outside for an hour without AC, end of the world. They get out of it what they are willing to put in, that's why a college degree with nothing to back it up may as well be toilet paper. C's get degrees, but they don't get careers. Our college just had a concealed carry law passed so students can carry. Granted, we are a state university that has a board of trustees that are mostly republican. Makes me happy, but my wallet sized 380 is in my car/truck/backpack all the same regardless of their "laws". If I have to ever pull it, the education will be the least of my worries. At least now I won't be expelled or some such. I am personally in deep in the student gov (some crazy liberals in there, but connections are good), I sit on a board that distributes 6 figure money to "green" projects like new lighting or electric vehicles for grounds staff...ect, and student managed investment fund that beats the S&P by nearly 50% where I'm a chief analyst in Industrials (due to my background). I bit of research tells me that someone is pulling some weird **** with that domain. It has been used to redirect to like 3 other sites in the last 30 days. I doubt if it is by someone sanctioned...... but still.
  10. Depends..... The one that is about an inch below the master is a sort of trouble indicator/proportioning valve. It has a little spool inside that moves back and forth according to brake flow, that spool can trip the light indicating an issue with the too much/little flow indicating a leak or something. It is known in the GM world (maybe here too) for sometimes being an absolute pain to get bled if air gets in it. (My chevy's brakes are a tiny bit spongy, I suspect that the valve in the issue, it will lock up all 4 wheels at 70 so I stopped caring) If you have RWAL (rear wheel anti lock), you will have another valve thing below it that is the actuator. It is not know to be a bear to bleed. If you have the RWAL, you will also have another proportioning valve above the the rear axle on the driver side frame rail. If the linkage is gone, you likely won't get much fluid to the rears. (Mine is gone, I tied it up with a wire as a stop gap measure) Neither should be stopped up. I have never seen that happen before, but it is possible that they could stick, though, that is literally the absolute last two things I would replace. Not necessarily. you can put literally tons of pressure with a C-clamp, which is what most use to push in calipers. The residual pressure in the calipers could make the brakes drag with very little pressure. Just 20 psi residual would put over 60lbs of clamping force on the brake pads. Considering the system can operate at over 1000psi, 20psi isnt a lot.
  11. Aluminium is lighter than more steel belts and rubber. It is obscenely lighter than steelies of the same size. I don't miss hauling steel rims around. Al is much lighter (and much more profitable). My 12v with 4.10's on 285's is ~59mph at 2k and is why we ordered the 2012 with 3.73's. I wish the 12v sat lower, but the 6.7 with stock tires sits higher than the 12v on 285's. Still, the 12v gets 19.5mpg at 75 and the 6.7 gets 16.5 at 75. I have managed 26 with the 12v and 285's, but that was doing 45-50 the whole way. Though, pulling 21k with 4.10's is nice. Neighbors with 3.55's dog slow.
  12. That would be typical. They are on the same circuit and it is easier to push a cylinder out that to push it back into the master. Put the calipers back on the rotors with pads. Pump the brakes a half dozen times. Crack the bleeder screws on the calipers, if any fluid shoots out with considerable flow, bad lines. If it just dribbles out like normal, lines are fine. The hoses will make a one way check valve with higher pressures and flow of fluid that would not be apparent with low pressure. Also ensure the caliper slides are well greased.
  13. On the actuator, stock is probably fine with the adjustable boost elbow.... unless 20 psi seems appealing for some reason. That is unless a new actuator can be had at a higher pressure for less money that the stock/elbow option. Though, with the elbow, you can change and fine tune in the future.
  14. Did you replace the front brake lines? Did you bench bleed the master before installing it?

Why does that look like a chevy door?

The real stuff can cause serious heart problems in small amounts. May not be strictly illegal, but hard to find.

Cleaned out my grandfather's deep freeze when he died in 2011. Found deer meat that was dated 1994. Also, I though real licorice was illegal stateside.
  18. No packing in the cheap donaldson. The expensive ones, yes. Truck used to make me grin. I have reached the point of wanting to be shocked.

The new shelves don't look quite as full as the old ones. Makes me wonder where all of the food went. Someone must have been very very hungry.

I want that red truck..... All ya gotta do is lock it in low, truck will find its way home eventually.
  21. Used the truck for actual work today. The heat index was 108* and it was obscenely humid, it kept my nice and cool when I wasn't on the roof. The exhaust has stayed on for now as well. Cleaned up a bit from Laura and repaired the barn roof where it tried to peel it off like a tuna can. Old roof timbers in the bed. Woke up about 7 in the morning, looked out the window and the roof was in the process of rolling off. The winds were only about 30mph at the time with gusts of 50. Glad I did..... about 20 minutes after I finished, wind picked up to about 60 sustained, and 75+ gusts. I put the bucket of the tractor, and some heavy metal pieces, to keep it from doing the other 70 feet of the barn. The barn is very much pieced together and is well over twice my age. I'm not too worried about the holes in the tin, so long as it stays in place. Nothing under that part that can't handle some water.
  22. I know the CW is a 9cm2, but the VE is the vgt with 3-25.

I have had a glass or two of whiskey and I'll fall asleep nicely, but I always wake up with cotton mouth (with a glass of water next to the bed) and about 2 hours before I wanted to. With a good indica, I'll sleep good and most of the time will not have cotton mouth unless I had no water at all. I will say, you seem to have quite a tolerance. I used to be able to smoke all day, and the good stuff at that. At this point, I'm sure a bowl of dirt weed would would knock me out for a day. I take one, maybe 2, puffs of the stuff my mother gets and that's it for me. If I have much more, full body trips. Not into that anymore. That is in stark contrast to me when I started. Lived in a fairly nice suburban neighborhood and there was a 15m.p.h. corner at one spot, came around it on the way in at 20 just fine. Hotboxed with a friend in the chevy while waiting for another friend to come outside. Went back around the same corner on the way out at ~7m.p.h. and felt like the truck was going to flip, and so did my friend..... it didn't flip. Not my smartest moment, but there was no other traffic at 1am. I have never been pulled over while inebriated, but I have had quite a few tickets over the years when not.
  24. If you don't need the truck for a week, pull it apart and get the numbers off the bearings. Someone is bound to make them. From the diagram, it appears to be ball bearing. Being submerged in clean oil, they may not have much wear. It is basically an unchanged design since the 60s. https://www.turbododge.com/threads/how-to-rebuild-the-saginaw-power-steering-pump.866354/

A friend of mine came to visit me for 2 weeks over the last month. He had never tried marijuana before and he typically takes melatonin to try and sleep. He tried just a little bit about an hour before bed and said that it was the best sleep he has had in years. The kind of sleep where you wake up in the exact same position you fell asleep in and feel refreshed and awake. I basically stopped smoking about 3 years ago but trying a little with him, I fully agree, amazing sleep. I had forgotten how well it works.
