  1. Just got back from a 1000 mile round trip with a friend and his 2011 C&C. I have to say that the only downside to this truck is the fuel milage, but what can you expect from a smogged 4 x 4 truck weighing 11k with 4.88 gears. The transmission and EB are the cat's azz when pulling a trailer. Went to Ohio with a 14k GN to pick up a tractor. Coming back the trailer was just a tad over 13k. The trip up was uneventful 12.6 mpg @ 68mph 10.8 @75mph. The Lie o meter was dead on the money vs. hand calculation +/- .1 each fill up. The trip back was smooth as well but 7.6 -7.9 mpg running 5 over the limit. Jellico was a good pull at a steady 60mph, there was more to be had but why risk it.Overall the 800 ft-lb. Cummins is a beast, with the heavy truck you could even tell the trailer was back there till you looked in the mirror. made the same trip about a month ago with my sig line truck, loaded going empty coming back with a hand calculated avg. of 13.64 mpg iirc might have been 13.94.The trailer weighed just over 11k and my truck was about 7k with two people and luggage. Same trailer both times. Conclusion: I'd have one if it was deleted and didn't cost some darn much. I also like the stability the duels give the truck.
  2. Very interesting. let us know how she does on the Saluda grade.
  3. Never tried it on chrome, but the professional powder coaters burn the chrome off with acid prior to sand blasting, in my area.
  4. Do it. Just make sure its what you want it's permanent. Also a likely resale value killer, should you want / need to sell it later.
  5. Fuel is close, less than a mile. $3.669 here.
  6. Wow, thats awesome. Hopefully it doesn't cause issues like the other poster stated it might.
  7. Last time the bands were adjusted? 16K is bound to work a tranny over pretty good in your situation. Especially since your outside the design parameters of the tow vehical by at least 4k. GCWR is 16-18k depending on rear gear, so your trailer load is too high in any situation for your truck, and will tax the complete system. Your transmission mods don't address the cooling capacity of the truck, as it came from the factory. http://dodgeram.info/2001/towing-charts.html
  8. Like others have said, depending on placement of the sensor it could be alright. Consider that the cooler for the transmission sits next to the radiator, and runs through a heat exchanger that circulates coolant, that stays at 190-200 degrees. It doesn't seem like a stretch to see transmission temps that are similar.Transmission in tow haul mode?
  9. I have a 3L 5 cyl. MB diesel I want to swap into something, someday.
  10. Tire type, size, air pressure levels, lifted, lifted. 2wd or 4wd. Same driver? long bed, short bed, bed cover on both? The algorithem for figuring the overhead milage will probably be farther off on the older truck vs. hand calculated. The sheetmetal is different on both trucks, so that could have some affect as well.
  11. If it's a '07.5 it'll have the 6.7L which would give poorer milage.
  12. Durn, I would have needed a new wardrobe!!!!!!!
  13. It's amazing how far a fella will go to not have to read the manuel. I'm quilty of it as well.
  14. Don't that just ____ you off?
  15. The key is having a clean metal surface. It don't work well over paint, chrome, dirt or oil.
  16. I got a hand calculated 24.2 mpgs on a short 100 mile round trip, the other week. Keep the speed @ 62mph. I was a happy camper.
  17. It's back working again
  18. That's interesting. I was under the impression that '06 was the first year for the third injection event. The pistons in the '06 are different than '05 according to advertisments I've seen.
  19. I have an older Garmin 350
  20. I have seen half round bar stock but it was a long time ago.
  21. As long as your trailer is less than 10k and you'll only pull it like you say you should be fine with a Hemi. The problem is that those trucks regularily only get 13ish unloaded and about half that pulling something. Like you have stated a 6.7L is not in my future either. If 'Ol Blue lays done I'll just keep putting her back together. Having an extended warranty for the next 6.5 years and 65,000 miles will help.
