Push lock fittings with hose clamp

Looking for some fittings today on internet...

 

2 questions...

 

1.  Any source for a 1/2 inch, 90 degree push lock fitting?   Can't seem to find one. (2 wheel drive with a sump is getting pretty low to ground, try to keep line up much as possible) 

 

2.  Very many people use hose clamps on your push lock fittings?   http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/1-2-Fuel-Line-Fuel-Pressure-T-Fitting-Adapter.aspx

I like hose clamps they make me feel good.  Sub 50 I very much doubt they are needed, heck even 100 psi.

 

Yes, I checked Vulcan.  I'm beginning to think nobody makes a 90 degree with push lock at both ends.

Eric at Vulcan does not recommend using any push locks because he has seen to many leaks. He likes to see barbed fittings with hose clamps. What's bad is they wear from vibration and let air in when fuel is under suction. I still have a set new in the box and they just sit there.

I guess I'm not understanding what you're trying to do here.....  Because a sump will have the fuel line already coming out horizontally so why the need for a 90* fitting?  And no, I dont think anyone makes a 90* pushloc coupler.  You'd have to put one together with JIC fittings.

As for using clamps on pushloc fitting and hose, I dont see why that would be a problem.  Pushloc fittings are the same as a barb fitting but designed to work in conjunction with the specific pushloc hose for a proper mating seal.  If you use other hose with a pushloc fitting then yes, I could see why it would leak. :thumbup2:

(OP here)

Reason for 90 is FASS sump is located at very end of the tank, nearest tire.  Fuel line was installed (by mechanic?:mad:) the fuel line leaves the sump and runs underneath the tank to front of tank, then in frame rail to AirDog.  This is on 2wheel drive, sort-of low to ground.  The reason for a 90 was to run fuel line from sump, up along inside frame rail to AD.  Making fuel line much less of a target for road debris.

I've got several problems on this tank.  I'm waiting for a guy at FASS to get back with me after holidays.   Their (FASS) fix for the leak sounded to me like an oversize "O" ring type of affair.  Not sure if fix is actually an "O" ring or not, but what they called it.  Right now the sump leaks a little and dribbles fuel.  The mechanic:mad: drilled the hole where one side of sump ended up at a slight curve.  If FASS doesn't get back with me, I'm going to have to find a way to get sump leak tight.  Neighbor says I should look into getting tank "welded" with plastic or some type of glue.   I never heard of welding plastic before,  but I might have to check into how to patch a hole in tank, if oversize "O" doesn't happen.

 

I do have other options for the tank.   There is a 3/8 line installed into the fuel module.  And a 1/2 pick-up tube (draw straw)  The 3/8 line to a FASS pump worked many years.  But no matter which way I go I have to get tank leak free.

 

After dropping the tank myself,  I think the problem, the entire time, was the fuel was being restricted by all the junk built up in the fuel module. Looks like dirty slug snot  That would of been easy to diagnose with a simple flow test (bucket test).   Right now I can pore some fuel into the bucket of fuel module and it doesn't drain out.  I've been looking for another tank.  They are hard to locate.  Of the two I did find, I'm not going to but at $250 (still installed) and another one, the guy wanted $400. 

The way things are going I might end up with a 55 gallon barrel for fuel tank.

 

I'm lucky, as I don't need this for daily driver.

Push locks male and female junction wears out. May not be enough to see fuel leaking but will suck in Air. Eric doesn't like them ... plenty calls to his business about them he says.

Don't know if this helps, but seen a T push loc on diesel auto products.

Thats because I have to maintain a necessary level of passive aggressiveness being a northern CA conservative living next to my southern liberals.

But I have to ask, what exactly "wears out" with a pushloc fitting?  Sounds more like a tubing issue to me.  :smart:

Whats your fuel pressure dripley?  And have you fully disconnected the Edge to see if the problem remains?

 

I say that because there is no "suction" of fuel in the supply line if the fuel pressure is high enough.  Although the suction side of the fuel pump line/fittings will have the opportunity to pull air if they're not sealing correctly.   Even at that, the job of the Airdog as an air separation pump is to remove any such air before passing on to the injection pump. :thumbup2:

I've never seen one. I would use a brass 90*  (female threads) with 1/2" push-locks.

 

And no I don't.

18.5 at idle and 15 at wot. I do have quick disconnect on the top of the fuel tank and at the pump. I did however forget that the AD is suppose to remove the air. The miss is so seldom and so intermittent it doesn't really bother me. Several months back it was bothersome, Happened almost every time I matted it, but it went away. I have just recently noticed it happening again. And no I have not disconnected the Comp to see what happens. If it gets worse I would try that.

I believe there is possibly some confusion between push loc fittings(good) and quick disconnect fittings(bad). Jag, you say Eric at Vulcan doesn't like the quick disconnects, however the pump I bought from him came with these(part of the kit). To avoid future trouble on top of the tank, I cut the female q.d. fitting off hose, shoved hose over the male and clamped it. Gotta use what you have on hand to avoid down time.
