how much can you haul in the bed?

Recommended Posts

I didn't mean for it to sound harsh or mean.. but I can say that my non-overload-equipped QCSB will absolutely NOT be able to carry 6000lb without completely bottoming out the rear suspension. Nevermind the fact of the tires and their load rating (E). If I could get away with putting 5-6000lb in the bed of my truck, I'd definitely do it more often..

You would be surprised how much weight a tire can actually carry. I'm not saying you should go over the rating, but I have been doing contract work in a wheel factory for months now and work right next to the wheel testing machines. They air E rated tires up to 120psi and put 5000lbs on them and go 55mph for a couple days. Sometimes the tire blows, which I have heard 3 times now and it is loud as hell, even with them being inside acoustic deadening cinderblocks. These are all brand new tires of course, but it just shows that they can go through a lot more than most people might think. They ran a 35" toyo mud tire the other day and strained it so much that it blew a hole in the sidewall. They said they are going to get a machine for semi truck tires which they say puts 80,000lbs on just 1 tire :wow: I don't wanna be around when it blows.

sorry, but I'd have to raise the BS flag on this one, if I had one..

not saying it can't be done, but 6000 lbs HAS to make the suspension scream.

:wow: I thought I had logged onto CF for a moment! I guess I will take my:spank: now. I don't know about my suspension, but I couldn't see the truck's appearance look any different than before. My truck rides like a tank even empty. Compared to our 95 Ford F150 and I put 200-300# in the back the trucks front end lifts up quite a lot. Maybe I am going:cookoo: for my earlier post.

I really don't know what the tongue weight is but my horse trailer, loaded for rendezvous has huge load on the gooseneck. The axles are under the horses... 10 feet of "dressing room" + 7 feet of gooseneck loaded with everything for man & beast for 12 days in rendezvous. I'd be afraid to know what the load was. Plus we carried iron cooking grates, & such in the truckbed, (10) 5 gallon water jugs from home against the headboard, 10 gallons of K1 for the tent heater. But the weight was far enough forward (gooseneck centered over the axle). I'll tell you what, it takes a very determined man on the landing gear crank to lift it off the hitch. I'd say the truck squats a couple of inches under the load (8800 gvw).I think the scariest load was hauling the bumper tow toy hauler back from New Hampshire. The Load distributing hitch was missing the shim pack. So all the weight was on the hitch. I swear the front wheels were barely on the ground! The seller did not impress me with his knowledge. When I got home, I Googled the hitch, got the instructions & added washers on a stud to replace the missing shim assembly. I'm recalling moving pallets of ceramic floor tiles... the truck did squat some but not like this.

Don't take it that way, dude; not how I meant it at all. :) And how DARE you compare this place to CF! lol I think these posts should state whether or not the truck is short/long, and with/without overloaders, etc.. I'm seeing now where that makes a HUGE difference..

When the thread was going on leaf springs I was amazed at how many different set ups there were on our trucks. Rogan, are we still friends? LOL

Ok I edited my sig to show QCLB camper package. the camper package is what gave me my set up including the overloads, rear spring pack, rear anti sway bar and I think the Dana 80 rear end(not sure on that one though). I know some of our trucks came with the Dana 70, but i am not sure how they worked all of that out. If there is a better way to list it, I am all ears. I hope i am still friends with all of you. I was not trying to show off. It was just one of those things I had to do, not something I wanted to do. I have always wanted to try and see how it worked though.

That is the same spring pack that is in mine, appearance wise anyway. I dont have any air bags though. I'm minus the rust also. I remeber a thread on here somewhere about in bed campers. they can get pretty heavy I would think with all the extras some of them have.

I have an aluminum framed camper with a slide out. It is 8'11" long and is made for the short bed truck.Fully loaded (40 gal of water, 2-20 lb propane tanks, a generator and provisioned out) is 2600 lbs. Pretty much puts the truck over the 8800gvw for this vehicle. I have the camper package (overload spring set but no air bags) and the truck doesn't squat at all that I can tell. Oncoming drivers don't complain about headlight beams in their eyes.I did add bumpers to my overload spring contact brackets so as to engage the overload springs as early as possible when you start adding weight to the bed.post-11041-138698182521_thumb.jpg

Wow you have a few more leafs than me. Thats the same camper from the looks of it. One more thing the guy had on mine is the extention bars on the hitch. they were welded into both ends. When i put 2500 in the bed i figured i was pushing it. Maybe i can go a little more ?

Is that 8 or 9 springs in that pack(not xounting the overloads)? Mine only has four + overloads like Dually's. Is that the stock springs?
