I have the first year of 4 wheel disc brakes. For those who have owned both disc and drum rears...are there definate advantages to the discs? Pro's and con's??? Enough of a difference to look specifically for 2001.5 and newer? Limits your options a lot!

Alright, so not only do I have steering components to replace, now I may be facing a 2nd replacement of the AD pump! I went and got fuel the other day and dunno if that is the problem or not. We had a good cold snap come through before I filled up and put some diesel 911 in just in case it got colder than the formula for the fuel. They were telling us to expect -20 with wind chill at the time but the coldest we got with wind chill was -7 I think. It did not last long, but I did not want to risk getting stuck somewhere I shouldn't. The fuel was rated for -10. During this time, pressures were good. It was not until after I filled the tank and put more 911 in to tre…

  3. :banghead:I guess I am now part of the elite! Yesterday, son Rob said the tach was bouncing again... mostly at lower rpm. the faster the engine turned, it smoothed out. (I replaced the sensor last fall) and today the truck fell flat on it's face dead. 1688 is the code stored.I put on an Air dog FRRP pump last fall too, but too late? This is a bone stocker engine with 130k miles.I will add, that the last 2 months we've had to keep the battery charger on to get it started in the morning. It would restart the rest of the day fine. I know it needs new batteries too. Volt gauge after it starts always runs mid 14v. I proba…

  4. First forum post, hey y'all! So I'm looking into getting a new tuner for my Cummins, but it's quite the jungle out there, I've come to find. I see the guys over at PowerDriven Diesel use the Quadzilla Adrenaline tuners, and I kinda trust that lot with all the R&D they put in these engines, but would it be the right tuner for me, is the question? I'm not looking for a tuner that'll supply me with a million horsepower and enough torque to rotate the earth backwards if I launch it too hard in 4WD, but something that'll add around 100-150hp. Having that said, I already have a Smarty S03, and I read elsewhere on this forum that it fuels weirdly, requ…

  5. I have a thread on another forum, and m1973m's posts there, led me 'here'.Basically, it boils down to this:On Key-on, I bump the starter. With a fuel pressure gauge on the system, the lift pump (prev. owner replaced the lift pump (with what appears to be an Airtex E7153 or replica), as well as added a [crap] Mr. Gasket #12D inline pump (rated at 5-7psi, 35gph) back by the tank. The LP kicks on, and the pressure slowly climbs from zero - ~19psi. Once the LP kicks off, the pressure immediately falls to ~5-6psi. If I sit anw watch it for a few seconds, it'll bleed off to zero PSI.If I repeat, and as soon as it hits 19psi on prime, if I start it, it will fall to zero in a…

  6. I have a 2002 Dodge 2500 w/ approx 135000 mi. the injection pump was replaced by a dealer when the truck had 98000 mi. The truck sat idle for about three weeks and when I went to start it the batts were very weak, turned over twice and went dead. I charged the batts, cleaned the terminals, but the engine would just spin. The lift pump is working, and there is fuel in the tank. I also changed the fuel filter and drained the water separator. Still, no start! Help!!!

I am having some troubles since rebuilding my engine and putting it back together. I'm not sure if the problem is caused by the lift pump, just not being primed, or the ECM. I put a new ECM in my truck do to the fact that my old one had a faulty wait to start light and thought maybe it was messing with the lift pump. I also tried priming it by bumping the starter and my pump does not run for the 20 or so seconds it's supposed to, and doesn't always run at all? It will crank but haven't got it to fire or start. Could this be from the lift pump being junk? The ECM not being flashed for my truck? Or just simply isn't primed yet? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

OK a few day ago this happend and I wanted to know your guys thoughts and maybe what you think the problem could be.The truck, '99 3500 4x4 5spd CTD.OK it was about 50* outside, I started the truck, it started like normal, didn't let it warm up or anything. drove about 500 feet and shut it off for about 20 minutes. Tried to start it and it would only crank, didn't try to fire or anything. First I checked all the fuses, under the hood and in the cab, nothing. I then tried taking out the power puck thing, that splices in the plug that goes to the back of the Injector pump. I took it out and still nothing, put it back how it was and nothing. I then went inside and check…

My '99 4x4 diesel used to fire right up , lately sometimes it has to crank longer than usual. Not real long cranking over, but noticeably a little longer crank time. Not all the time but did it today 3 times. It always fires though. I dont drive it every day . Drove it last two days probably 200+ miles I just put new batteries and military spec terminals and cables on it. Battery ground to frame and body grounds good. Has 164,000 miles, new VP a few years ago , lift pump pressure is ok, Fuel filter changed 5000 miles ago, and the old one was ok anyway . I run 2 stroke oil in the fuel all the time I plan on putting a Fass pump on it but " Idont think" that is the p…

Hello, I’ve been trying to chase this rough idle issue for weeks now. My truck is a 1999 2500 with an s362, edge juice with attitude, bd 3 piece exhaust manifold, 200hp injectors (don’t know the brand, of size of holes or how many of them). I have other non power train parts but those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head. My issue started after I put in 200hp injectors used that I bought from a reputable person and I did not get them pop tested unfortunately. I properly bled the fuel system and it started right up. I noticed immediately that it had a rough idle and stutter that was really mild that you really had to listen for. You could hear …

  12. Is there a "best" spot to install a FASS or Airdog pump? Thinking closer to tank because I heard the pumps are better at pushing fuel than pulling. What about cold weather? Any place better than another?

2001 Dodge 3500, 6 speed manual transmission.... hit with the dreaded "dead pedal" yesterday but after restarting the truck, it started working again which was great so I could get back home, to work today & the truck in the shop. Diagnostics on it can't find a computer code to determine the accurate diagnosis. So now what do I do, replace the APPS now or what and see if something else shows up? I often have a trailer hooked up with horses so really hate to get stranded out some where. It's the holiday week and I got a buddy that can put one in for me if I get one ordered today so whatcha' think? Help a gal out, won't ya?

I installed my "new" remanufactured ECM on my '99 CTD 4x4 this morning I had the issue of, Key on, Boot up delay. Delayed 'wait to start' light and lift pump. Ive had the problem for 4-5 years and it was getting worse, longer boot up delay So after the Install...It is working great so far. I ran a few errands and the ECM boots right up, WTS light comes on first immediately and I can immediately crank the starter and it fires up immediately. The truck actually feels alittle crisper responce too After quit a bit of research and alot of calling around, recommendations and good reviews from vendors and mechanic shops I went with …

Nothing against CF or the guys helping there, just feel that the knowledge of Mopar Man himself and the guys here is incredible as well as the resources provided by the site here. https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/fluctuating-idle.2528169/#post-29295619 I have 99, 5 Speed, 4WD, CCLB, Motor was rebuilt at 206k, currently at 215k, New FASS Titanium Signature 165, New RV275's, VP is a different story, will mention below. No tunes. Motor ran good in Montana and California throughout the winter. Came to California throughout the virus and since started finding problems. Keep in mind the temp differences…

Was driving home the other day and got a "Water in fuel" warning light on the dash. Now I have the "latest greatest" AirDog 165 and filters so should not have a water issue. Have been draining the fuel drain on the AirDog every couple of months and getting a few drops of water, but never more than a half of a teaspoon, so am hoping that the "water in fuel" warning light is in error. Anyone have this issue and where should I go from here? Thx, FT PS did a search for this and got millions of hits, mostly for fuel and not water in fuel...

I have a AirDog on my 2001 and today realized that I don't hear it running when I first key on. I checked and it is getting power. I can feel it vibrating when the truck was running but can't hear anything from it. Regrettably my fuel pressure gauge isn't working, and I've been to lazy to replace it. Does anyone else have one running that quiet? Figure with not have the fuel pressure I'm kind of in a guessing game. Think I may be best off not running her until I replace the gauge. Also if the AirDog is out, is the VP44 strong enough to pull the fuel from the tank, and through the AirDog?

Hey Dave...Remember that thermostat you sent me a long while back? Yea... I got around to using it and guess what!? It's good! It rises to 200*F and lands back to 193*F and holds steady. More testing to follow!

I was just looking at your article on the OBDLink and have a couple questions. You say it gets fuel flow from boost; however, fuel flow at 10 psi and 1500 rpms is a lot different than 10 psi and 2500 rpms. Also 10 psi at 12° of timing is going to be different fuel flow than 10 psi at 8° of timing. So how accurate is it? What did the SGII use for fuel flow calculations? Your definition, and how to calculate, volumetric efficiency is based on your fuel tank yet volumetric efficiency has nothing to do with a fuel tank. Forced induction motors often have volumetric efficiency of over 90%. 63% sounds like a 5.9L gas Dodge Ram.…

  20. Good day everyone, Wanted to discuss with you guys alternative methods before a complete engine torn down. In a nutshell, I have been dealing with an abnormal oil consumption since I purchased the truck with 80K. I’m considering using the Valvoline Premium Blue Restore oil treatment as a final solution before parking out the truck for rebuild. I have my doubts about this oil, though it was designed for ISX Cummins engines to fix some of their new engine oil rings carbon buildup and is 10w30 viscosity. Please advice if you have used this product. I cannot think of anything else other than stuck oil control rings resulting in adding 1qt-2qt of oil every 1K. Truck doesn…
