When I pull out of the garage in the morning, I can see coolant on the garage floor ( pass. side front of truck).Crawled underneath yesterday to see if I could see where it is coming from. No luck there, although the drops are coming off the front corner of the block on the pass. side. In looking from the top, I see evidence of coolant around the water pump housing, but it is dry, with a shiny glaze over it. So I'm thinking loose bolts on the pump. Not so, says the wrench on the bolts. Basing this statement on the hoops I had to jump through yesterday to get to the bottom bolt. The water pump is going to be a SOB to change, unless I'm missing something obvious. I know th…

Let me preface by saying that I didn't use the whole tank of fuel before figuring the mileage I got for this tank. That said, I filled up with 388.5 miles on the tank and the fuel gauge had just hit straight up/half tank!!! For me if I can get 300 miles before the gauge reads straight up/half tank, I'm in the 19mpg range. However, this tank of fuel seemed to be really, really good. No work trailer towing on this one either. All suburban/short country driving jaunts where the speeds averaged 35-55mph. The hand calculated MPG for this tank of fuel was 21.6mpg and I really overfilled the tank too, so true mileage may have been a touch better than that. Filled her right to t…

As some of you know, I'm moving North and will be spending some time completely 'off grid', in a week or so . The only A/C power I will have initially, will be generator produced, and I won't be able to plug in my truck. Temps at night are already hitting zero to -2 or 3, and I'm wondering if i should have put in a lighter oil when I changed it, a couple weeks ago? I'm running 15W40 Rotella oil and Fleetguard LF16035 filter , any suggestions? Thanks!![h=1][/h]

  6. I just put steering wheel radio controls in my truck. They plugged right into my clock spring, but don’t seem to be working. Do I need to get my PCM flashed like I did for high idle? Has anyone else gotten them to work? Do I need the dash harness also? Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Ok replaced 3 of the 4 battery cables on the truck. The 4th cable is the positive cable on the drivers side. Goes directly to the starter and TIPM. How in the world do you get to the starter to remove the cable? The cable mounts on the top side of the starter almost directly under the fuel filter housing. You can't get to it from the front side of the front axle and you can't get to it from behind the axle. Heck you can't even see the lug, you have to feel it. Thanks G

While in NJ I had my 2005 Ram CTD serviced at the Caldwell, NJ Dodge/jeep/Chrysler dealer. I was told I should replace the Down Tube for $130 every 30,000 miles. Since I didn't see that requirement in my service manual and never heard of it I decided not to do it till I found out more about it. Is this something anyone else knows about or is it a service rip off???

Just got a 2001 QC short bed with the HO cummins and the six speed manual with 157500 on the clock. So far the truck is great was used as a work truck so its got some dings and what not, but my question is; every once and a while when I go to take off from a cold start the engine will stumble a couple times then recover and be fine the rest of the time, but when it does stumble the check engine light immediatly comes on (so at least thats working!). Could this be the lift pump going bad? Any help is greatly appreciated as this is my second Dodge but my first diesel.

My neighbor says the only way he can get his 03 cummins to start is with starting fluid. He has replaced a bunch of parts, he can't remember what all, but everything costs 2 or 3 hundred dollars, the last of which was the in tank pump. Nothing has helped. He says it runs great, just won't start, hot or cold doesn't matter. Any thoughts?

  13. There is a common misconception that there are Bosch injector bodies available for the CR Cummins application made out of stainless steel. That is a myth. None of the Bosch injectors for this application are made of stainless steel. BBi INJECTOR Bodies have been offered in two different versions. The original body “look” of Big Bang Injectors had a darker exterior. Now they have a shinier look to them. Some say that they, along with injectors from elsewhere, are Stainless Steel. Fact is they are not made of Stainless Steel. The only difference between the first BBi Injectors and the new appearing Injectors is the coating that is used to prevent corrosion. They both have t…

Hey guys, something I have noticed with this '05 truck is that when I am towing and trying to take off I get a slight shudder. It doesn't last long maybe until 10 mph, but I do feel it. I was looking around and something that caught my eye was people were saying the shudder is caused by the two piece drive shaft. Anyone heard that? I know that on the second gen trucks a 1/4" spacer for the carrier bearing helped. Do you suppose I may try something like that? If I did, it might be a few months until I would find out if it helps.

Finally got around to getting it done today. What an effing PITA!!!! Valve bank 4 is sort of under the cowl and ,5 and 6 are totally under the cowl and you need to be part monkey to get at them with wrenches and feeler gauges!!! Only have 215,486 miles on MightyWhitey and it's the first time done on her. None were crazy out of whack, but some were tight and some were loose. I turned the engine over using a socket on the alternator bolt. Only drew blood on one finger during the whole ordeal.

For the last century, horsepower has been used to describe the power output of the internal combustion engine. The horsepower unit was created by James Watt in the 18th century. Its origin is based from how much power a horse could lift in foot pounds, 33,000 ft-lbs to be exact in one minute. The unit is derived from torque, which is the true measurement of the engine physical power production. What is strange about the units of horsepower is that it has no physical meaning. Its an arbitrary unit that has no real significance in describing the characteristic of the engine. For those that are curious to calculate horsepower: horsepower = (rpm/5252) * …

Guys, this is kind of a silly question, but I like to give my engine compartment an occaisional bath. Are there any componets, or sensors on CR engines that should be avoided?I know old school gas engines you have to be aware of moisture in the distributor, air filters, and hot cast iron parts don`t like cold showers, but when it comes to a diesel engine I don`t have a clue what I should be avoiding if anything??

Hey guys, My dad has an 03 2500 ext cab lb with a hemi, yuck! lol anyway, he was asking me if I knew anything about what fluid he needs for his diffs. I only know what I read over on CF and that is that it should have an AAM axle with gear driven limited slip, if it even is limited slip, and so should not need any LS additive. He said he could find any identifying info on the axle sonintold him to ask the dealer. He did and they told him his truck does have a LS rear and that he does need fluid with LS additive. Does that sound right? I though all 3rd gens have AAM axles which have gear driven LS and so don't need the additive? They didn't tell home what axle he has…

Stock lift pump runs for a minimum of 30 sec when key is turned to run without bumping starter. Noticed today after installing a new battery (passenger side was DEAD) that the lp runs faster but making noise like starting to cut out kinda like a ruff idling engine then after 15 20 seconds starts to smooth out. Is this a def sign lp is going out. Also taking a little longer to turn over then when I bought it. Thanks
