  1. I have worked on vehicles off and on since the late 60s, gas and diesel , air cooled and water cooled and haven't had this happen before. I did a coolant flush as it was due and changed the thermostat because it was running about 5 degrees hotter the last year. The first new thermostat that I installed was listed as 190 degree and it did not open until 207 and not close until 183. I filled the radiator through the thermostat hole as i normally do and topped off in the cap , let it run through open 2 cycles. All good . Took it out for a drive of 20 miles with short but steep hills and flats. The first thermostat was very consistently opening at 207 to 208 and closing 182 …

Getting ready to address the kdp soon. At the same time I'm going to clean the radiator, degrease the engine & delete the puke bottle & add a fuel boss. Want to try and get all this done before it get's to cold outside.Questions: I've decided to just unbolt the pulley assy from the block instead of using the custom wrenches to take the fan apart. Is there a gasket between the pulley assy & block? Or can I put it back together with the high quality grey rtv stuff? Same goes for the timing cover. Can I just use grey rtv on the re-assy?I've done the kdp on my first gen years ago, and I recall it was pretty easy but I used a new gasket for the timing cover. A…

  4. Ok I did the mod and it primes when you go key on but when cranking it you can see the test light flashing (not staying steady) and then when it starts it stays steady is this what i am looking for? i don't have gauge for fuel yet but the lift pump is from parts store new and only 1000 miles old so far. I can tell right off the batt something is different because it cranks and lights first hit of the key where as since installing new lift pump it would crank a few times and some times you had to try 5 or 6 times before it would start! I thank you guys very much for the modification its a life saver! Question now is I know its just a bandaid to my injection pump's problem,…

My brides 2001 2500 needs ball joints her 38" tires have destroyed her stock ones. I know the tires are wee big and the 7 inch lift doesn't help. We are ordering moog ball joints tonight and I'm wondering if any one has part #s for them. We see a lot of different part #s and want to make sure we are golden. It is a cummins and is a Dana 60 I am assuming.Any beter than moog? Thanks in advance guys :)Lance.....

I am in the process of installing boost, pyro, fp and tranny gauges in my truck. So far so good but I am not sure about the tranny temp assembly. Where does the sensor go? Where is the best place to install the electronic control block? If anyone has knowledge and/or pictures I would appreciate your help. Thanks,Arcwelder

My truck has a small oil leak, just a drop or two at a time but I was told it appears to be from the back side of the timing cover. I'm contemplating having the leak fixed and I figured if the cam has to come out to do it, possibly toss in a different one. I was looking at the Colt cams stage 3 or Big stick as I think it was called. Is anyone using one of these or know someone who is? Just curious if it was worth it. Just saw the other post regarding the big stick, lol.

Truck will not start. Turn the ignition switch and nothing. Have power to everything else. New starter, batteries, no codes checked fuses, changed starter relay in PDC. Happened last week and had the starter retested and put it back in and it started right up! I have gremlins. Looking for suggestions. Thanks!

  9. I am thinking of running a 100 micron or something along those line in front of my raptor pump. I am running the standard screen that they send with the pump but I think that if I run a finer filter before the raptor that if will help keep it running quieter. Do you thing that its worth wild?

I have a 1999 2500 with manual trans and I added a Quadzilla XZT with a tune that has a high idle on it .I was coming home from work one afternoon and turned off the highway onto a residential street and my rear tires hit a icy patch and started to spin , the rpm's came up and it felt like the high idle kicked in and the truck tried to take off on me , so I pushed in the clutch to stop it and the truck just shut down. I coasted it onto another street and stopped and tried to restart and it wouldn't so I let it set for a few minutes and then it fired right back up . Is there a rev limiter that can shut the truck down or a relay that can trip causing it to not restart and s…

Okay guys, on friday as i started up the truck, there was this loud buzzin sound coming from the front end, then faded out. Truck ran fine on the way to work. At the end of the day, same noise, same result, but truck started to stall out. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Yesterday I was trying to pull my loaded trailer out of a snow covered driveway. I spun the tires in 2wd so I moved the transfer case shift lever from 2H to 4H but the front wheels did not spin on the snow while the rears were spinning. I shifted to 4L and same thing. I have no knowledge on these truck as far as the 4wd system. Any thoughts or hints on what might have happened and how I should proceed from here?

  14. I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 24V Cummins 3500 2WD Dually. Yesterday I moved the little selector on my fuel filter housing and pushed it down releasing a little diesel. I stopped after about 5 seconds. I did that with the truck off. After about 2 hours I went to leave and the truck turned over, fired and then stalled. Since then it won't crank. I have watched some YouTube videos about priming it, some people saying I let air in the system other saying my VP is toast and honestly I am new to Dodge Cummins so I am not familiar with what to do. This is what I've done so far: 1. Turned the truck over about 45-50 times, it won't fire. I killed both batteries…

  15. Like the title says I've got a 99 2500 been chasing this issue pretty much since I got the truck almost 2 years ago. Long story here I've dug and dug into research on it. Looked at other forums, looked at other pages, seen what worked. I even fixed a few when I worked at dodge by relocating the ground across the radiator. That's what led me to this site when I found out about the alternator AC issue. It made perfect sense seeing as my ECM has a bad microprocessor also. I tried all those bogus tricks. Nothing can seem to fix my truck short of a $3000 manual swap. Only one that really helped was cleaning and replacing bolts on battery terminals for about a week then it came…

  16. Ok I just bought a 99 dodge 3500 24v Cummins with 222,000 miles I have searched but cant find nothing with same symptoms like mine exact. When you barely touch pedal it revs really high when in park. When you try to drive it it takes off really good then dead pedal then picks back up after it falls to around 12-1500 rpms and goes again it will not stay at a constant speed. Try and it cuts out till rpms fall them picks back up again. It appears the pump is not the original, and the guy I bought it from had it at a shop trying to get it fixed and they said they tried a different apps. But I dont think they know much about these trucks. Any ideas? Also I have a proble…

  17. :banghead:I guess I am now part of the elite! Yesterday, son Rob said the tach was bouncing again... mostly at lower rpm. the faster the engine turned, it smoothed out. (I replaced the sensor last fall) and today the truck fell flat on it's face dead. 1688 is the code stored.I put on an Air dog FRRP pump last fall too, but too late? This is a bone stocker engine with 130k miles.I will add, that the last 2 months we've had to keep the battery charger on to get it started in the morning. It would restart the rest of the day fine. I know it needs new batteries too. Volt gauge after it starts always runs mid 14v. I proba…

Alright so I might have done something really stupid. I put 2 bottles of the amsoil engine flush in my engine and ran it for an hour on high idle. I did this when I was checking/charging my AC system. I know that you are only supposed to do it for 15 minutes but the only thing in the amsoil engine flush is just detergents, no solvents so I thought it wouldn't hurt anything. After the flush I changed the oil with fresh 15w-40 and a new oil filter. So afterwards I noticed that when I was driving on the freeway @ 65mph, my oil pressure sat at 49-50psi. It would normally sit around 54-56psi but it seems that something changed. I'm around ~1840 rpms when the speed is 65mph. I …

Anyone experience an oil leak after changing out your vp44? it seems to be on the driver side front of the engine but the fan is blowing it everywhere. I've used degreaser and a pressure washer on the motor/underneath and no luck. Seems like mose of it is ontop of the power steering pump but I've also seen a drip behind the harmonic balancer (running along side the motor and dropping there I believe). anyone experience anything similar it's frustrating me a whole bunch

I posted this question in an older thread, but apparently no one is looking at those old treads anymore. I think that it is time for a fluid change in my transmission. I have searched all over the place for Valvoline 50 SAE gear oil, and keep coming up empty. Does anyone have a source for the proper fluid for this transmission? i am concerned that the lube shop that did the last fluid change did not use the correct fluid, and that may be contributing to my hard slightly notchy shifts. This may be a stupid question, but is the Valvoline 50 SAE motor oil the same oil? I do not think that it would have the correct additives, but I am not positive. Any help or links would be …
