  1. While performing regular maintenance on my wife’s truck Ifound that one of the universal joints was shot. It was making some horrible screeching metalto metal noises on the test drive whenever I applied any throttle. Her truck is a 2001.5 long bed that has the 2 piece driveshaft. Since the universal joints and components onthe driveshaft appear to be the original OEM components, I want to replace ALLof the universal joints AND the center bearing. I want to replace the universal joints withSpicer Heavy Duty/High Performance universal joints and a Timken centerbearing. Has anyone done this task recently and if so, I sure wouldappreciate any comments, su…

  2. Compressor housing is pretty grimy, but I thought the blades looked ok (except for my finger prints!). Notice that the intake hose is quite clean as well as the lid to the filter box (I've never cleaned those). Here's my question: Can I carefully wipe of the filter housing and quit there? Or, do I need to clean more of the turbo unit? Why is it that the intake hose and filter box is clean and the compressor housing is not? Thanks,Eric

Guys please excuse me as I am new to this platform. I recently purchased a 98.5 Ram 3500 5spd 4x4 that had some issues that I knew about before I bought it. It was throwing P0336 and P1693. Previous owner had replaced the crank sensor but I did it again just to be sure. Verified continuity from the ECM plug to the crank sensor connector and installed a brand new connector also. It was still doing the same thing, start right up, run and idle fine but had no tachometer, and after about 45 mins to an hour start running very choppy and inconsistently. I swapped the ECM with one from a 1999 2500 5spd 4x4 suspecting it initially. The choppiness and bad running at the hour mark…

Here's the latest of my vent tube letting off steam... I think it is twice what it was since I purchased back in October. My cap does not dance around but I am seeing a little more steam out the cap area too. I get 2-3 drips of oil when parked? Should I be concerned? I ordered one of these to collect the drippings and to try to reduce the amount of smoke emerging from under my truck... Probably best viewed in full screen...

Has anyone put one of the Fass electric heater kits in an Airdog FP-100? It looks like it will screw in next to the supply line from the tank above the water separator. With my Airdog exposed under the truck, even with anti-gel additive, it will gel up driving down the road. It was -17 this morning and I made it about 1.5 miles to the store fine. I left it running and ran in for 3-4 minutes and when I got back in it started loping real bad and I noticed the fuel pressure was Zero. I shut it down, then limped it around to the back of the building out of the way so I could deal with it after it warmed up some. I finally got the fuel flowing about 2:00 PM and got it home…

  8. I was on my way to church this morning and my speedometer started acting up going to like 127 mph for a few seconds at a time. That is all it was doing. I went to leave church and head to the shop and more problems... As soon as I turned the key on the speedometer instantly pegged out again. The truck started fine and when I went to leave its like the convertor was stuck in lockup and the tranny is in high gear.I can put the shifter down into 1 or 2 and the tranny will shift into those gears but the speedometer remains pegged out and anytime the speedometer is pegged out and you put the shifter in D the tranny stays in high gear. I'm thinking possibly the VSS on the rear …

Does anyone out there have a ballpark figure on swapping a 47re for a NV4500? Trying to do a little planning for the future. If I can do the swap for the same price as buying a built 47re then I would rather have the manual.

  11. Hi, Spotted these 2 connectors, 1 grey, and 1 black coming out of harness near left front side of engine. Black has what appears to be 2 contacts, and grey has 3 contacts. Picture is taken from ground, left side looking up. Thanks. Leaky

Hello all, I too am in a similar situation with my truck.....I recently took ownership from my uncle, who recently passed away and left it to me. I would normally never own a diesel, but as I mentioned....it has much sentimental value to me, I have to do my very best to honor my uncle. That said, he had spent a large amount of money on the truck, he has all the bells and whistles you might expect, the Quadzilla system, the exhaust extras from Bulldog and on and on it went. I am not very skilled at mechanics, but I am a cheap man, so if I can do it myself, I will. Still, the problems seem to be adding up, and now the truck will not turn over at all, its obviousl…

  13. Finally got my FP gauge installed correctly. Had been using the isolator but I could never get it to work right or for very long. Now I am direct to the gauge. 18.5 @ idle 16 @ wot. Stupid questions. If I start to notice a drop in pressure do you just pull over and shut it down? I think I read it takes 14 to open the overflow on the IP to cool the IP. So less than 14 you pull over and shut it down ? I know that sounds dumb but now that I have the FP just want to know what it is trying to tell me to do. If your LP went out completely the reading would be 0 correct ? You shouldn't be getting a reading from the IP sucking the fuel correct ? Thanks Rob

OK I've put a Timbo APPS on and a noise isolator. That took care of the check engine code, however, it is still turning over a while before it wants to fire. Sometimes I have to crank it 2 or 3 times for about 3-4 seconds each time before she fires. I don't have anymore codes going off. I'm thinking that it is losing its prime of fuel. Could the airdog 150 be causing this? Before the sensor went bad it was starting fine, suggestions??

Hey there so I’m a noob to this forum but not the cummins scene. I have utilized this forum for tons of info in the past with great success... until now I’ve never not found the answer. Long story short I installed a quadzilla adrenaline in my 02 2500. 10 seconds after starting the truck started smoking(so bad the fire dept was called by 3 neighbors) and developed an intense fuel knock. Contacted quadzilla and sent the module in, they confirmed it was a dud and replaced it. The iquad was claiming with the truck off that it made 42psi of boost off the map sensor(replaced the map with a cummins sensor as per Marco at quadzilla recommendation when the original sensor was fin…

I raided Wally world last week and bought every jug of 2 stroke they had. $12 and change/gallon.I just put new injectors in my 903, and I want the first sip of fuel to have the extra lube! So, here is my situation, This tractor has 2 saddle tanks, about 110 gallon each. They are connected at the bottom with a 2.5 inch pipe. My filler inlet is on one tank only, (same tank that pump draws from and returns to). I'll pour 2 gallons of wallys blue into the tank (it's about 3/4 full at this time)... and stir the crap out of it. I was thinking about getting a paint stirer chucked into my drill? The fuel cap is 4 …

Really cool guyMan I found the best guy to buy ECM from, they are called ECM Outlet. This guy is nice and likes to talk, shoot the small talk with you .Your not just a check # with him.Cost shipped to Tx is 540.00 not dirt cheap but better than anyone I have found. Oh and five year warranty, everybody else is one year, even Cummins remanHe also said that if your P/N on ecm starts with 394 (like mine of course) they are hard to find. He also says that there are about 40 ecm's out there for our trucks 01 - 02. 1-248-565-8308Joe

So I think I am burning oil from the turbo... I am going through about a quart every 600-700 miles. I am not leaking anything on the ground except a few drops here and there. I have checked my blowby while the engine is cold right after start-up, and after being on the freeway for a couple hours. Either way, i have hardly any blowby, a puff every now and then. The only other thing I could think of is maybe the seals in the turbo are shot. It is the stock turbo, never been touched and it has 193,xxx miles on it. The head was rebuilt last summer so I dont think it could be in there. Any ideas? thanks everyone!
