Hi there, First time posting, but i have been reading posts for a while now, really appreciate all the help this forum has given me in doing a 1998.5, 5 speed, 24V Cummins swap into my 1976 Chevy 3/4 ton. I am now working on the building a fuel tank, I'm halfway done building it. I just was about to drill holes, and I've run into a question i have on where I'm going to run the return line from the VP44, and also from the Fass 95g lift pump i have installed. This picture represents where I would like my fuel tank to be, its 65" wide, 32" tall, and 6" deep I have scrapped the idea of using the factory Chevy saddle tanks, as i want und…

Throwing this out there.... could you remove the dodge ecm and wire harness and replace it with a regular isb ecm & wire harness? ive been looking at diagrams and the dodge/isb only has 1 50 pin connector while the non dodge ecm has 2 50 pin connectors, and on that 2nd connector could you do more with (extra features that dodge didnt seem to want us to have which bother me). I've just been thinking outside the box lately, traveling the path less taken.I need to get the Cummins Inline 5 or 6 at some point to, see what I can do with the Insite program (yes i have all the levels of licensing and the licensing for password removal & oem password removal), Also I have …

  7. The "Wait to start" indicator on the dash does not come on and the beast is hard to start first time. (The coldest it ever gets here is maybe 60 F at night). Apparently no intake heat happening. This just started happening after a mechanic had it to fix the power steering. Don't see any loose wires in the area. Any suggestions?

  8. I got the issue with the torque converter acting up sorted out and now this... The gremlins didn't stay away long. I am now getting random drop outs of the tach and the CEL comes on and it has 0336 codes. I just changed out the CKP sensor awhile back after it developed these same symptoms but now they are back. Either the sensor I installed is a POS (I did get it from Autozone) or there is something else going on.

Hello, Been A while since being on. Busy working! I Bumped my truck over and didn't hear my fuel pump run. Shouldn't it run every time you key the starter? The fuse was good on the air dog. I tested and had voltage on both sides the truck off. it when trouble shooting my truck that didn;t want to start at work today. Think I have a starter issue as well. Thanks for any info. Also been having very cold temps and snow. JOHN

Yeah, it's me again with more newbie questions... Installing my new RV275 injectors, before I bugger something up wanted to ask a question/get confirmation. My FSM says to push new injectors in by hand, and (in bold) NOT to use any additional tools to force them in. The install videos I've watched also say the same thing and show them popping right in. Well, that's not working, even with minimal additional mechanical help. Yes, all the injector tubes are out. Yes, I did put oil on the the new 'O' rings and the new copper washers are well seated and not slipping off. Yes the old copper washers are out as well. I double checked the receipt from Diesel Auto Power and i…

Hey guys, finally got my stealth plate installed and got everything buttoned back up to go for a spin and had the cel come on throwin the P0122 for low voltage. I read through the troubleshooting briefly but was wondering if there was anything quick I should check since I just had the apps unhooked to install the stealth plate?

OK, Brainiacs, from my last post, I changed the U/L ball joints out last weekend. Once you get the hang of what you're doing, it's not to bad. Well, around Tuesday, I noticed a light blinked on the dash, bottom middle. Didn't know what it was, till I got home and used a flashlight..... 4WD light. I thought maybe, the bulb was going out. So I put it in 4H to take a spin around the property.... the light didn't come on, but it went into 4WD. Today when I left the house, the light started blinking, almost like a strobe light when I was driving. It would go off when I came to a stop, but then when I get to around 35, it starts blinking again, but sometimes it goes out…

  13. I just had the VP44 and the lift pump on my 98.5 Dodge replaced. At idle, the engine surges from 600 to 800 rpm and wants to die when the accelerator is pressed. The injectors have been bled once, the pump has been primed with the key trick once or twice and I am not sure if the APPS reset has been done. A friend is doing the actual work, he is a heavy equipment diesel mechanic and has never worked on a Dodge. I do trust his work mechanically. Am I right in thinking we need to reset the APPS, prime it a half dozen times and bleed it one more time? It's kind of funny, I have been reading on here for several years now and never had a reason to post. My old 92 12V just never …

  14. I have a 99 5.9 with a low pressure fuel pump not working. I changed out the pump today (160 bucks)with a new one but still no work. I ran out of time today to check voltage on the pump but I think it is a shoe in that it is not getting voltage during crank. I tried the bump engine but don't start, to hopefully get the low press pump to initiate but it will not. I did get the pump to work once a couple months ago and I think it happened when I drained the fuel filter through the bleed valve on the filter. Then went back to crank and the pump initiated. When I swapped out the pump today the filter was drained but it still did not initiate. All of that leading me to believe…

So I pulled into the driveway on lunch and noticed my thermostat was at 240°f. I shut the truck down and pop the hood to see if anything was out of the ordinary. Then I noticed the belt was off all chewed up so I went to the parts store grabbed another belt going to put it on and notice the pulley was wobbling. So I started thinking where in the hell did my bolts go!?!? And that's when it struck me..... I realized the bigger question was how the hell do I get this fan off this bracket that I have now remove as a complete unit from my engine

Had a funny idle this morning. I have a 2.2k ohm resistor in my iat sensor but I dont see how it would have anything to do with it. Cranked up and drove to work this morning and all was fine. Got in my truck a couple hours later to go to my next store and truck cranked up and idled fine a few seconds then it idled to about 950 or so then back down to 800. It did this on and off for a minute until I put it in drive. Then got to my next store and it was doing the same thing when I parked, it would idle like this for 3-5 seconds high then 3-5 seconds low. I reset the apps and then came back out in a few hours and the truck was doing the same thing. Next store I reset the app…

  18. I have to pull my head, and the hoist I had lined up fell through. I can either a new or used 1 ton HF hoist, and am wondering if it will reach our motors. I'm only using it to pull the head, as it's just me, and there are no handy trees around me to help.

I've been reading that the Cummins engines in our trucks, when idling in cold weather, get buildup in the cylinders from an incomplete fuel burn; causing all kinds of mayhem in the motor. I was curious as to what's different with these engines? I ask this since all the other diesel engines I'm around on a daily basis (pulp truck , skidder, excavator, ect) will run all day long, with lots of idling in that time span, and yet it doesn't seem to bother them any? Looking for some clarification.

OK, my signature truck is pure stock, right down to the OEM air filter... except the tailpipe rusted itself off a while back. Tires are OEM Michelins, ratio is 4:10. Most of my driving is secondary routes (state owned local highways). I'm doing my best to stretch fuel... getting the automatic to shift up & foot off the go pedal down hill. I'm running 2 cycle Dino 100:1. In the past, the overhead MPG has been within fractions of the hand calc miles. I reset the overhead after my last trip with a trailer, to get that off the data... the over-head has been bouncing 18.0-18.3... respectable mpg for this truck. I just filled up 27.94 G at 619.1 M That's "22…
