Mike thank you for all you do. You have helped me by phone twice and am now joining your forum - and yes I need some help!!! 1999 Dodge RAM 3500 4x4 Diesel Dually. Can't get it started in the morning - even jumping it (especially in this colder 20 degree weather) takes a while. On first startup (at night it shows well) the headlights will dim greatly for a few seconds and brighten (and repeat). I assume this is the alternator kicking on and off. After awhile this affect goes away. Running for awhileit will charge up well and restart as needed. If we take short stops and starts will notice it progressively harder to start up again. Assumed the batteries (3 year old…

Hello all, This has been going on for quite some time now. It's not too often that it bothers me but it's something I want to address come spring. Whenever I take off from a stop hard and i mash the skinny pedal to the floor the truck takes off but i hit the rev limiter and the trans wont shift out of first gear till i back off the throttle. It shifts great when I take off normal and if I mash it in any other gear its fine. I've had the bands and clutch packs replaced and they are adjusted properly. The pressure is turned up to 65 psi on the valve body. The TV cable has been set correctly. Is it possible I need to replace the solenoids insid…

Alright guys so I made the mistake of using a KN Air Filter for the last 4 months, and am currently waiting for a BHAF to come to the door . But before I do my switch is there a way to get the oil out of the turbo? It's not to bad since it's only been 4 months but you can still plainly see the oil in there it's not imbedded in the metal of the turbo yet Thank god!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. UPDATE! - July 18 2007 - Cetane What is it? What does it do? I'm still seeing a large amount of people that want to continue adding cetane boosters to the 2 cycle oil this is not required. Today diesel fuel is approximately 43 - 47 cetane number. Please check over on the MSDS page. Cummins Cetane Requirements for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Trucks A Cetane rating of 40 is recommended at temperatures above 32 degrees. A Cetane rating of 45 is recommended at temperatures below 32 degrees. There is no benefit to using a higher cetane number fuel than is specified by the engine's manufacturer. The ASTM Standard Specification for Diesel Fuel Oils (D-975) stat…

I got momentary dead pedal on very very slow take off when cold. So I put on the Timbo Apps with no dead spots afterward. Howver, I got one hard start when the engine was still hot. How long did you guys run your old VP after hard starts? Thank you in advance.

  7. Has anyone used this tool....? They have it on sale for 99.99 and it has a bunch of good reviews.

  8. MY 2001 temp runs between 195 and 205 degrees. I changed thermostat, took radiator out flushed it and cleaned it and degreased it. Thought it might be running warm cause of blowbye blowing on radiator. Radiator schrouds were in good shape so im open to any suggestions. Thanks

  9. If you read my tranny post recently, you know I have been having issues with my truck while hauling my 5th wheel. I have posted a couple of posts on here and I have to say, I have learned alot already from a bunch of good, knowledgable people on this forum. For that I say "Thank You"!!!! Mike had the kindness to call me personally tonight and talk to me for almost an hour and discuss my truck issues. Mike, you are one hell of a guy and I will always support this site and tell many others!!!!! Great people like you are hard to find and I thank you once again for the great information. You sound like one hell of a guy. Mike was even giving major credit to all the peop…

I've been reading around on the forum (great way to learn), and notice several posts talking about boost in the 30+ psi range. I pull a 10K fifth wheel and I've never seen boost above low 20's. Something wrong? My EGT's are 1100° in only the toughest of pulling - rare. 800° - 900° general driving with fiver in tow. MPG is good too.ThxEric

  11. Have been having more and more issues starting the engine once it warms up. Truck starts right away (barely turns over and its running) when cold but once it gets warm I have to crank it several times and even once had to use starting fluid to get it going. Was wondering if I somehow got some diesel with gasoline in it and the gas was vapor locking but its all pure pump fuel. The VP is about a year old and new injectors in the engine. Never had any issue with it during the fall/winter/spring but it sure is making things difficult now.Any ideas or suggestions? Thx, FT

So it came in the other day and im going to get around to installing it soon. I have all manual gauges, so Im missing out on a lot of cool gadgets I guess. I read the quadzilla instructions and pretty much got that, what is the Iquad going to do besides download other tunes? In other words what is it going to do for the quadzilla? I read the instructions but I will have to re read them Im sure several more times. Just asking questions to basically put it together in my head. Excuse me but im old school, dual point distributors were high tech in my day.

  14. I installed the timbo sensor a little over a month ago and it seemed to have worked fine for about a month then the bucking and dead pedal started again this time not as bad but still could tell it was the same problem. So I cleaned all battery cables then reset it and it worked for about another week and now is doing it again. Could the sensor I got be bad? What am I doing wrong?

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 5.9 Diesel. After I drive it 8-10 miles the check engine light comes on and the tachometer bounces up and down. Sometimes it goes down to zero and stays there. Other times it responds like it's supposed to. While it does this the engine "power surges", it cuts out and loses power but doesn't die. Other times it gains power......when you get down on it sometimes the tachometer responds like it's supposed to but the vehicle doesn't gain any power, not falling on it's face but not responding. It's not the throttle postion sensor because the tachometer responds. The codes I keep getting are: P1693 P1694 P0123 P1690 P0336 I have cle…

Since I got the truck back on the road abouta year ago I have been fighting cooling problems. FYI the truck sat torn apart for almost 3 years and endured me moving twice during the process. When I first got it going it started to overheat sitting in the driveway at idle on a 95° day. I found a bad water pump replaced that and flushed the system. I try to flush the system once a year, after I replaced the pump I was good or so I thought. The truck would sit at 190 and with a large trailer it would creep up but never overheat and it was only at slow speeds. I replaced the clutch in the fan and made an improvement and now when the engine revs up you can here th…

I was towing the 5th wheel yesterday to get it set up for the wife and kids to camp in, and while I was going up a hill I lost turbo boost and my EGTs went up. Pulled over and discovered that the first intercooler boot had blown off of the intermediate pipe. My guess was that the clamp wasn't tight enough or had backed off, so I put it back on, went back at it and half hour later it came off again! Hasn't come on since, but it did seem like it was a little stretched out. I'm thinking I should replace the boots. All I've found is Vulcan or factory boots. Which should I go with? I have a BD Modified HX35, which I believe is essentially an HX35/45 Hybrid. …

Ed sent me a high idle switch for me to install into my overhead console, and do a write-up on it This is for guys that have no where else to put it due to too many gauges, or in the rare case like Jigabop who has too many options :hehe: Ed extended the length of the wiring to allow for the wires to be run from the overhead console, under the headliner, down the A pillar, and into the engine bay. Whole install took about 2 hours. You will need - Drill - 2 1/8" whole saw - Smaller drill bit to drill the center ( 1/4" - 3/8" something small to ensure the center hole is in the right position) - Center Punch - Straight Edge/Ruler 1/16" - X Acto Knife - Wire cut…

I have the pedal issue. It will go a mile or two and lose the pedal. I can turn on off the key and it runs great. I checked for continuity of the wires and they were good. Low voltage less than 2 volts at the apps. It has a new apps sensor and the Ecm was checked out and was good and the Pcm was rebuilt 50 miles ago. Along with a new vp44. I am checking grounds but I am at a loss. Any ideas?
