I posted this over on CumminsForum and I figured that it'd be useful here too. I recently purchased an Airdog 150 for my truck and wanted to mount it where it would be protected by the skid plate. I knew that AD used to make a shortbed bracket, and I've seen a few of them on this forum and others, so I set out to make my own. I bought some 1/4" steel plates from lowes and cut/drilled it to copy one of the supplied airdog plates. Then I welded another steel plate perpendicular to that plate and drilled a few holes for the AD bracket. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about so far: Here's a shot with the bracket bolted on: I found a…

Today I went to Tractor Supply Center to pickup some scratch feed for the chickens and notice they had their "Travelers" house brand 15W-40 Diesel Heavy Duty Motor Oil in the 2 1/2 gallon containers on the clearance shelf for $14.99. By my stubby pencil math, that comes to a $1.49 per quart. They had 9 2 1/2 gallon containers left on the shelf. Yours truly scarfed em all! I think 22.5 gallons of oil should hold me for awhile.

Hi, just experienced the fifth gear problem yesterday, i was hauling my trailer, when all of the sudden i hear a noise and vibration from the transmission. After that my fifth gear will not work any more, luckily made back in fourth. Today we drop the transmission to see what was the problem, and i find that the nut on the mainshaft came loose and my fifth gear and mainshaft gear were gone. I've been searching on the internet and found out this is a typical problem for the NV4500 transmission. Just ordered the gears and need to order the nut also. Having a hard time picking a design that works, would appreciate any input or experience on the parts i need to fix my tr…

I ordered a BHAF from DAP and it came on Thursday. Been busy running back and forth all week. I've always been basing the filter change on the filter minder that I typically always just drilled a hole and stuffed the grommet in and the filter minder. I'm going to walk away from that method and start moving over to yearly changes of the air filter. I can't say right now if there any impact in MPG numbers or not but you sure can hear the turbo whine now compared to with the old filter. I'll keep you all posted.

Installed raptor 100 about one month ago fuel pressure changes about every three days and has to be adjusted Up or down 3-4psi is this a problem with the raptor? If the screen on the inlet is clogged would it pump 42oz fuel at the vp in one cycle? When you set fuel pressure at 17psi at idle wot is 13 is that normal? Thanks Ed

So my stock exhaust manifold on my 2000 cracked the other day. I have a 98 with a cracked block that I'm robbing the manifold from. The one I'm robbing is a 3 piece ATS. Problem is, ATS manifold has 4 studs in it, while the stock turbo has 2 studs in it. Which one would you guys drill out the holes on to get them to mate together? I'm not ready yet to put the compounds from the donor truck on my 2000 yet.

So... before I go spending too much more time and money on the truck I wanted to get an idea of engine health. Didn't want to spend the $300 on compression adapter and guage ..... so manometer. My results were 2" at 2200 and 3" at 2800 .... Problem is this I s about NEW engine spec .... so I think some things astray. Most obvious would be too much venting somewhere .... but my front gear vent is blocked off .... And I run a dual billet side tappet.... 1 was blocked. Other was blocked with 15/64 hole. Measured from dipstick with clear tubing .... pics to come. Any ideas of where I'm venting or ....??

Of course I hope to get a Qaud before long but I’m curious if I could use it to build more boost without tuning? I do have a boost fooler.

Okay So I want to swap my auto to manual. I have been looking at the G56 trans in the newer Ram's. But I want to know some input here. What is the best manual to buy, mind you all I plan on doing with this truck is towing and dd basically. Not really gonna be much sled pulls or racing. What are your thoughts, from those who have the manuals?5-Speed or 6-Speed? :think:Also is the swap worth it, I know a few guys on here have swapped. So was it worth the swap? :shrug:I really want to get rid of this POS 47re I'm rocking now. Thanks guys.

Hey there, im in desperate need of figuring out ecm/pcm problems. I own 2000 automatic 4wd truck, a mechanic said the original ecm was bad so he sourced an ecm p/n 3947912(2002?) truck would start and run but rpm would cut out after 5 seconds of run time.(im aware newer years didn’t have a crank sensor). Fast forward i bought a 2000 donor truck with a manual transmission , I removed the ecm/pcm and all wiring harnesses under the hood and swapped them to my truck(one thing i noticed on the donor truck was it has a crank sensor by the starter but nothing was plugged into it and there was no pigtail in the harness) so i swapped all mentioned above into my truck and I’m still…

I was curious if anyone on here has done the reverse and went from a manual to an auto trans? In my 99 Cummins 4x4 that I used to have a few years ago, I swapped out the auto trans and installed a rebuilt NV4500 that my buddy and I overhauled and installed a brand new South Bend single disk clutch. I kept my ECM and PCM and installed a manual trans stock tune file from Mads with a Smarty and it ran great after that. At the time my left knee had stage 4 arthritis in it and it wasn't liking a stiff clutch at all, so I found a friend that had a verified rebuilt auto trans with paperwork from Baker City, and we spent a long day swapping transmissions and input sha…

Hello Everyone, Well over Memorial Day Weekend the 47re began its slide to the point of no return on my way back from my camping trip. I knew this day would come when I purchased the truck (mechanical items don't last forever) so its no real surprise (still feels like this though ). Taking that into consideration, I have always planned to convert my rig over to manual as I am a 3 peddle guy. I am not concerned with the $$ (sort of) but am really concerned about doing it right with a solid end product. I decided on the nv4500, so I will be needing help from all of you 5 speed owners (or past 5 spds). The goal of this thread is to seek knowledg…

I've noticed in my truck and when I had my 5 speed Mustang GT years ago, that when you let off the throttle somewhat suddenly, without pressing the clutch at all, the whole vehicle seems to jolt quickly. Say for example, I pull out and shift normally to 4th gear, then a car cuts me off, and I immediately release the throttle without clutching at all. The whole truck jolts. Doesn't make any clunks or bad sounds. But I was just curious as to what this is and if it does any harm. It gets progressively worse the higher the speed of the truck and RPM's. Usually doesn't do it at lower speeds unless RPM is high. My truck has a fairly new Southbend clutch and the Mustang I referr…

Has anyone swaped a auto to a manual? How much did it run you to do it? I want to do this in the future and want to get some ideas on what I am looking at here. Is it a do it yourself or do you have to have someone do it for you. i am mechanically inclined but not an trained mechanic. Any idea on this. Thanks:thumb1:
