I'm towing about 9k lb and truck slows down to 35-40 mph going up 6% grades. I went up the same hills in October at 55-60 mph with power to spare. Then I didn't drive it until March. I installed a new heater core (which has no bearing on this problem), a new crankshaft sensor, and a Fuel Boss pump with a new Airtex pump as a backup. I also washed my AME air filter. After doing all of this I did a test run towing a car on a flatbed trailer from Ontario, CA to San Diego with no problems, 60 mph all the way. My fuel pressure is 18-19 lbs @ idle and 20-21lbs @ 1800 rpm and above. my boost pressure is 26 psi @ 2800rpm and drops as the rpms go down. Any thoughts?

So long story short truck has a nv4500 swap from an 01 with an 02 motor that had the auto. Truck is extremely gutless until around 2000 rpms. Once you hit that it’s a completely different truck. Has an air dog that keeps 18psi fuel pressure. Have cleaned both iat and map. Can free rev all day but once you put a load in it there is a very noticeable lack of power. Checked codes and only codes I am getting are for the auto trans.

I have a 2001 dodge 2500 5.9 cummins 4x4 with an auto trans. When I start off in the morning I have to wait till the heat hand moves to leave the drive way. If i start off before that i have no power or speed. The truck does no smoke, use oil, or have any codes. It is not cold outside in the morning about 70 degrees f so i don't believe it needs pluged in. after it hits 190 degrees it runs strong. I am also fine all day as long as its driven ever so often. I did put a new lift pump on it and didn't help. Need help please...Thanks,

If I bypass the relay and have someone turn the key it starts. New position switch on left side of transmission. Transmission shop rebuilt trans last week. Could it be the position pawl is not engaging correctly? Can I check if I pull the pan?

Hi Everyone, I've been lurking on here for a while and I finally ran into an issue that I haven't been able to solve using previous forums. I put a new crank position sensor in a few months ago after I had the truck not start on me at the dump. I got it going with some spray I know it's not good to do, but I disconnected the power to the grid heater had my wife crank while I squirted into the turbo. The truck ran great for three months or so when it developed a random hiccup. This brief hesitation is totally random. Last summer I put on a Fass fuel system with a homebrew drawstraw and a Special X VP44 from Blue Chip. I don't think that this is a fuelin…

Hi Guys, I was directed here from BigFish over on the cumminsforum.com My 01 won't start at all. For the past few weeks it was not starting back up once HOT. I pulled the fuse to the lift pump to see if it would then start when hot, to eliminate the possibility of a diaphragm issues in the vp44. It would not start. It did start the next morning and threw the code P0118, coolant temperature sensor. I replaced that sensor, and everything seemed fine. IT would start back up when hot after replacing that sensor. Then a week later at the diesel station, it did it again. Would not start back up when hot. I waited 20 minutes, and she fired right…

2000 dodge ram 5.9 cummins, manual trans, stock except the air cleaner. Starts and runs fine 99.9% of the time and then 4 times in the last couple months it cranks but will not start. Put the tow rope on it in third gear let out clutch fires right up and runs good. I put new batteries, new ign.switch. There are no codes. You don't know when it will do it again until it happens. The fuel pressure is 10 to12 psi. It started this since it got cold this winter. I live in AK. Any ideas. Thanks 3 of the times the engine was farely cold once the truck was hot shut off for fifteen minutes and come back wouldn't start. Thanks

2002 cummins 2500 6 speed H.O. I need help a few weeks ago I was driving and lost fuel pressure, truck would barely idle and would cut out at 1500 rpm. I made home and it died, I have put a new ECP, PCM, vp44 and installed an air dog fuel system, new map sensor and intake temp sensor. I have been chasing wires everywhere and I haven't found a break or rub through yet. The codes im getting are p0237 turbo boost sensor circuit low, p0237 boost pressure test failed, p1689 EGR actuator control circuit low negative side, p0112 IATS 1 circuit low bank 1, p0237 turbo boost pressure sensor circuit low ( its showing 4.98 volts), I don't know where to go from here! My older code r…

Prior to entering the garage the truck started and ran no problem, mechical fuel gauge worked, and had 3/4 tank, truck is 2002 ram 3500 24v h.o.I've noticed over the summer the old airdog has been dying so I bought a new 95gpm fass pump. completely removed the airdog fuel lines, wiring harness, mounts and everything needed for it. Followed the instructions for the new fass install, I used a pre existing draw straw in the tank to pull fuel. installed the new fass pump, primed the system and hit the key to cycle the pump to push fuel into a bucket, ran about 3 gallons no problem, then hooked the the supply to the VP and opened valve for fuel gauge. Crack injector lines 1,3,…

  14. I've spent the last two days working on the install of a new hx 35/40 turbo and pac brake unit. Today I finished up and went to start it with no luck. It initially ran a couple of seconds on numerous attempts to start it and then just completely quit trying to fire. Details: A few weeks ago I installed a kill switch in the grounding wire of the fuel pump relay. If I forget to switch the hidden switch to "on" it spins over but won't start and throws code 1689. Today, the spinning but no starting reminded me of the result of the kill switch being in the off position so I wired the relay back to stock configuration to rule out an issue with the switch with…

  15. I replaced the tappet cover and am unable to get the truck started. Bled the pump, but I am unable to get it to start. any suggestions? thanks, Philo

  16. Started by UnrulyDually,

I started the truck up this morning, no issues. Let it warm up for about 20mins before driving. Drove it about 10 mins to the babysitters an shut it down. Went to leave, an it won't start now! Cranks over good but doesn’t fire. What could it be??

  17. Started by dieseldon,

Thanks in advance for any advice! Went to start my truck today and ran for about 10sec and died, can't get it to restart! Fuel pump seems to be working, have fuel coming from lines at injection pump, inlet and return, no codes I'm aware of, I don't have a reader just with key procedure. What's involved with checking injection pump? (Please don't let it be that!!) I'm a diesel noob and fairly new to me truck, please be gentle ? Thanks! Don

This is my first post to this forum. I have 98 24valve that had a fuel leak on top of the fuel filter heater. I fixed the fuel leak, reprimed the filter and fired for two seconds then died. I cracked the injector lines to get the air out of the lines and have fuel to all of the injectors. The truck will still not fire, acts like it wants to start but won't. I have good fuel pressure to the pump and no codes until switching relays. Codes 1688 and 1689 came up only after playing with relays. Any help would be appreciated.

Have a no start condition with my 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad 4x4 Cummins Diesel (approx 545k miles I think...been a while since it was running). Went through the “BLUE CHIP DIESEL – NO START TESTS”. Truck started when I hot-wired the VP44, which stunned me! But before the hot wire: initially had 12.7v on pin #7 of VP44 plug (with respect to battery…had the charger on the batteries) in “run” key position, dropped down to 12v while cranking (“start” position). Testing between pin #6 (ground) and pin #7, had 12.7v with key in “run” position…then in “start” voltage dropped down to 6v and fluctuated between 6v and 11v not coming back up to 12v until key …

  20. Any ideas? Truck sat for a month, batteries disconnected. The fuel tank was topped off before it was shut down, and the darn thing seemed to be running fine. Return after a month down South, charged batteries, reconnected them, attempt to start. No wait to start light. Electric lift pump ran for maybe a minute, not much fuel pressure. Bump starter, wait for fuel pressure...nothing. Crank engine, fired once and disengaged starter but did not run. No check engine light. Tried several times, but now not getting any fuel pressure and no fire from engine. Finally dragged out my DRB III (its the only tool that can reliably read these early 1998.5's) and can see message: …
