This morning I started my truck like normal, waited for the wts light to go out and she fired up. Took a couple more rounds than normal. Grid heater cycled like always. Get in and get ready to roll and I see the CEL. I shut her down and check the code. 1291 and that companion code as well. 1693 or something like that. So I turned the key and wts came on and went off after about 6 secs. Started up did fine I went on. Got to work (35min drive) and shut her down. Turned the key and the wts stayed on just like it sat all night. Turned it off and back on and it went off with the rest of the lights. Same thing today after work. So what do I need to look at first? Could it …

I've been starting the engine with the grid heaters disconnected for 6 weeks with morning temps ranging from 28°-55°F with just a little white smoke and a loping idle for about 30 seconds. This afternoon, after my wife drove it this morning, the check engine light was on. I scanned the system with an OBD code reader and fond this, P1291 No temp rise from intake heaters. Monitor & Set Conditions Temperature rise from intake air heaters is monitored for first 15 seconds of engine operation. DTC may be stored if initial Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor reading is 0-66°F (-17.8 to 18.8°C), Battery Temperature Sensor (BTS) and IAT sensor are within 10°F of …

So yesterday I pulled a trailer weighing approximately 6k-7k pounds that had most of my tools and some household junk in it. I decided to put the truck back to stock programming since I don't have a pyrometer installed. After flashing the ECM back to stock just for grins I checked for fault codes and have a p1488. I reflashed the ECM and still have the P1488 that won't clear. The truck runs fine and doesn't have a CEL so I'm sure it'll be an easy fix. I haven't dug into it but I suspect I'm going to find a bad MAP or CMP sensor or possibly bad wiring.

Well after installing my gauges and DDRP I finally got the P1688 "dead" code. My gauge still wasnt showing as much pressure as I thought it should have (12-15 idle...I could pull it below 5 with throttle). I'm pulling pressure thru top filter housing from outlet banjo thru a snubber. I assumed I should swap the filter anyhow. Regardless after I got up to temp, the truck stalled. When hot and bumping the starter the lift pump didnt seem to be running. Had no pressure and no start. I pulled code to get the P1688. Can the VP code cause the lift pump to not run (when hot)? After a few hours, I started truck and drove it to the house. Same pressures 12-15 at idle.I'…

Injection Pump Failure. Time to do some work to my truck. I'm just posting up to ask for recomendations in Fuel Pressure Gauges, and Aftermarket Lift Pump improvements. I'm hoping to make the repair in my home garage, so the easier to install options would be a plus. I see many writeups on the job, but any tips would also be welcomed. At this time I am leaning towards an airdog 100 lift pump. Thanks in advance for any information. Dave

I’m getting a recurring P1688 controller failure on my VP44. However, it’s easily cleared and the truck runs just fine. Could it just be the PSG is slow to boot up? Codes: 1688, 1693 companion Code reading/clearing method: Edge JwA Two scenarios 1. Turn the key on, 1688 is active, clear it, then start the truck without ever turning the key off. CEL never reappears as long as the truck is kept running. Idle is 800 RPM, idle load is 5% with new RV275s from DAP. The 1688 will never come back until the truck is turned off and back on. Runs great. 2. Turn the key on, 1688 is active, do not clear it, start the truck, leave the CEL on. Idle is…

Well we all know what this code means. I have been fiddling around under the hood a lot lately and I wonder if I bumped something that could cause the code? Truck still runs ok but seems like it got a bit louder as far as the typical knocking noise. Is they’re any other symptoms that show with this code? I honestly hope I have to do a vp because that could be cuasing a few small issues of been having for a while....

Did some searching around and figured I would post my experience here. Alot of people replacing the VPs over this it seems like. I went onto the dealer site and found the diagnostic tree for this code. Nowhere does it say replace the pump. It says either electrical/wiring issue which I understand could be the circuit in the pump, or the ECM. Personally I am assuming my circuit board is fine and I have a problem elsewhere. I live where there is an issue with rat damage. My pump is tapped for the Edge. I had a spare APPS to try. I tried the relay swap that moparman suggests. I cant fully rule out alternator noise but i have the BD kit and keep that ground wire r…

I'm confused I am try to figure out where my communication problem .I have done the tests that i got from here and when I do the check to ground on the white and black wires my gauge does not move at all. I was looking around online and I saw pretty much the same test but the color of the wires it said to check on post 1 and 2 on the FPCM are totally different. My wires are one white and one black and they are together in a shielded cable in the wiring harness with the others for the FPCM is this correct? I have a 2001 2500 quad cab long bed 2wd with auto transmission.I have replaced the lift pump and the VP44 it will crank but NO START. Thanks in advance for any HE…

Found this trouble a couple of places but no for sure solutions. Mileage on truck is 87,453 and is stock all the way. No trouble in the past. Just Oil, filters, tires and battery. Bought new in late 1999. Old and retired but I like my truck and need to fix it soon so help. Replaced the lift pump and filter, checked the APPS voltages and are OK, engine starts quick and idles perfectly. Touch the accelerator pedal and rpm jumps to approx. 1400 and that is all. Foot off pedal, goes back to idle. MIL (engine light) on & all other lights work normal. Wait to start on and times out as usual. Code P1689 is all that reads. HELP PLEASE.

My profile explains everything. I am a “diesel dummy” but need a little help to finish diagnosing. I want to check the harness from the ECM to the injector pump. I see where it connects to the injection pump then the harness goes into a main loomed harness. I have probably over looked the ECM but where is it so I can check the connector and pins. Any pictures would be a great help. Thanks

Hey guys, This is my first post over here. Id like to thank Mopar1973Man for having this forum and for all the information he contributes. The trouble code walkthoughs are an amazing resource. I am trying to resolve P1689 and P0215 DTCs. Truck: 01 QCLB CTD Auto 4wd. Pertinent upgrades: FASS system 95gph, smartry and original quadzilla adrenaline. There are lots of other upgrades, but none that should relate to my question. Backround: Truck was sitting for the better part of two years. When I stopped driving it, it was running well. When I came back to start it again, I had a no crank issue that ended up being a bad ignition switch.…

Truck seems to "cut out" at higher power output... The cut out of power is abrupt and harsh, as if the engine just shuts off for a few seconds until I let the throttle down. It also has been taking an extra second or two to start. Any ideas guys? Thanks. Here we go again.

So I have read everything there is about this code and parts and followed a lot of steps of troubleshooting! But my question is has anyone done the re-sauter of the transistor inside the vp44 and did it work? I know it’s either my vp and or the ecm. Just still trying to get a good idea on which one to drop the cash on. So so after new fuel pump(17 psi now ??), filter, apps, and a lot of ground wire chasing the truck starts fine but low idle around 6-700 rpm then if you hit the throttle no matter very lightly or peg it to the floor it jumps to 1400 and stays.

Good morning, I bought what I thought was a good deal of a truck during the pandemic, a 1998.5 3500 auto dually. This forum has been very helpful thus far but I feel like I have hit a bit of a wall and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions before I go down too many rabbit holes. Currently my truck is showing a P1698 code, which can be cleared but immediately returns. It s very hard to start but will get going, rev and not throw the code when in park or neutral. As soon as it is in gear and a load is applied the code pops and the engine derates. After installing the new vp44 it was running and staring very well. P1689 started suddenly on my wa…
