Hello new to the forum and looking for some advice and information. i unfortunately have to do an engine swap on my 2002 dodge ram 2500. i have been searching all over for information on what i need to do and i have found almost everything i need besides the easiest way to get clearance from the cowl of the fire wall. i have read to take the head off, to take the valve cover and the #5 and #6 rockers and push rod assemblies. I have also heard that i would need to raise the cab to get clearance. If i raise the cab how can i raise it without taking off even more parts that i feel aren't necessary. But i have seen a couple of videos of guys pulling the engine out with the va…

I need some help. I've got a 1999 Ram 2500 Cummins 4x4 auto transmission. I checked for ac noise and got a reading of .093 So I ordered a Nations 180 amp alternator and it came in today. My ecm was junk P0606 code auto computer specialists received it yesterday, waiting to hear from them on whether it a yes or no on being repairable. In the mean time I want to remove the tuner that is on the truck and put it back to stock. It has a early model Edge EZ manufacture date was 2008. I followed the wiring coming from the tuner, two connections that I saw were one to the maps on the drivers side towards the rear of the engine the other connection went to Idon't know what i…

Lots of guys are getting their race car rigs stolen. There seems to be a rash of them going on. I have to park my rig at motels when traveling and was wondering if pulling the fuel relay would be a good thief deterrent? Would it screw up anything doing it several times a year? Or does anyone have any other good easy anti thief ideas?

So i thought i'd go out and remove the silencer ring today for kicks (not a big difference in whistle IMO ) and this is what my turbo looks like. Is the oil residue normal, and if you look close it looks as if the impeller or whatever you call it, rubs the housing, but I can spin it and it doesn't scrape at all even though it awefully clean where it spins. I pull in and out with no movement that I can tell and maybe a hint of up and down movement. On a last note, sorry to beat this boost elbow to death but the picture with the elbow and the hose coming off it, is that where I install the new one? Here's the turbo pics Which of the three here is the one to get, or…

I am considering buying a complete 1998 12v drivetrain consisting of: [*]Engine w 100k [*] Auto trans w 12k on Jasper rebuild (w/ upgrades, but not sure what they are) [*] X-fer case w/ 100k [*] 3:55 axles with 100k [*] Front drive shaft Been sitting indoors since 2003. However, I can buy the whole deal for $2500...maybe less. I would then swap the 12v and Jasper trans into my '98 QCSB and sell my 24v (w/ 177k), good auto trans and 100k axles after the swap. I could give people good deals on everything, I think, and still get an engine/trans with low miles in my truck in for just a few dollars. I could not do the swap myself. Just don't ha…

Appears my odbii connector is going bad, loose connection. When I connect my BT odbii device if I push it in one direction it might work for a bit then stop (meaning all leds go out etc.), I've tried 3 odbii devices all do the same thing, feel it's not my BT odb ii devices. Couple questions 1) Has anyone replaced there odb ii connector, if so any tips (from what I've read I can move wires to new connector similar to the old rs-232 serial) 2) I found a wire diagram of the odb ii posted in another forum by mopar1973man, I'm assuming that since odb ii a standard of sorts, wiring is universal but, diagram shows Fuse 12 inside cab of truck left of dash, is …

Hi, Do not want to wrongly blame ECM much less buy one needlessly. Lot of articles and Truckers say ECM’s rarely go bad. So, one last sanity check to be sure. My understanding is as follows: - WTS should “always” illuminate immediately after switch is turned on. (I’m told it indicates computer has “booted” up.) - Once WTS goes off, I should “always” be able to bump engine and hear LIFT pump cycle for 25s. Q1. Should the above events take place every single time? What I know: Batteries are good. Charged and tested with DEAD Load tester. Alternator is charging. Noise is .03-.04 max. (Not perfect, but don’t be…

I am needing to replace my “Fan hub bearing” as dodge calls it. I'm looking for some general tips / feedback etc, if anyone has replaced the fan hub bearing before. Listed below are few specific questions 1) Based on the diagrams I've found on line the “hub” bolts to the front of the engine, once the bolts are removed any surprises there I should be aware off. 2) From my research the bearing is pressed in, tips to get it out and re-isntalled. I do not have access to a press aside from a rubber mallet, block of wood, bottle jack etc., 3) Tips removing the fan clutch, (saw one that said use c clamp to hold fan pulley in place). The threads on the fan clutch are …

My cruise control light was always staying on, but the cruise didn't work. After much problem solving, I finally took the 2001 Ram 2500 6 speed diesel to the dealer. Trust me, it wasn't my first choice. Anyway, they are telling me that the PCM doesn't know that I ever had a cruise control equipped truck. The tech claims that part of the PCM hard drive is dead. He wants to replace with new total cost of around $1200. Truck ran fine, so I'm debating how much I even want cruise control. Are there cheaper alternatives? Thanks for all the help!

Good evening all, Huge fan of this forum, it's taught me a lot about working on my truck and I'm hoping I can get some help pinpointing a problem. I've got a 99 24V 4WD with an NV4500 5 spd manual transmission, about 325K miles, bought it about 4 years ago with 272K miles. Over the last weekend I replaced the injectors with some Bosch 75hp, I replaced the crossover tubes with new ones while I was in there, all with new o-rings and new copper washers, and I also adjusted the valves. Followed torque procedure when putting everything back together. Before this was done the truck was pretty sluggish with acceleration and building turbo pressure. Now sh…

hey guys! Im new here, and new to the cummins world, so please bare with me! I recently picked up a 2002 ram 3500 dually, 6 speed. There are absolutely no modifications the the truck except a brand new raptor frrp 100 gph lift pump, and a brand new thoroughbred diesel injection pump. My problem before was, i started up, warmed up, and left the house, made it about 10 minutes down the road before i started bucking and misfiring, come to find out i had lost all fuel pressure and got the amazing code of p0216. I went ahead and replaced both the lift pump and injection pump, checked voltages on the plugs, checked the numbers on th…

Been having some trouble shifting gears lately. Leave out in the mornings and shifts fair to good. Get some heat in every thing and l have mash the pedal into the floor pretty good to shift. I replaced the oe master cylinder back 2008 but it was leaking by and creeping on me and then failed all together. That one was fun since l couldn't find any way to bleed it and didn't know any better. Did the best I could but still had some air in it. It took about 3 weeks of driving and a lot clutch pumping but finally settled out and has been working fine until a 3 or 4 months ago when this started. I had a replacement here and today would be good to swap it in. So goo…

That sucked.. My arm is all scratched up from givin' the ol' Cummins the 'reach-around' At any rate, the old sender was bad; it stayed at 70psi, even with the engine not running.. So dually was kind enough to send me a spare he had (many, many thanks, dually, btw!) Now, the OP gauge is working properly, and the Edge is now reading oil pressure.. idle, operating temp, is ~55psi, and 2100rpm is 77psi. 184k mi, and due for an oil change.. At any rate, thank you, dually !

Since I kept seeing a on/off P0216 that would come and go, I came across a great deal on a new VP-44 rebuild. Do I have to have my codes cleared or will they clear up on their own? If I dont clear the codes, will my truck not operate as normal??BYW, there is an excellent Youtube guide on how to remove and install a VP-44 pump.

Hey guys. 2001 2500 24v 6speed manual. Always has started perfect and fast. I noticed a very loose wire on the starter yesterday (the smaller wire). I was going to pull the wire off, strip it down a little then reinstall it to get a better connection. I wasnt thinking when I first got under it with pliers to loosen the nut. I must of touched something together because I got a spark and a loud noise. Almost like it tried to turn over. Disconnected the batteries so that wouldn't happen again. Pulled the wire off, stripped it down to good wire, wound it around the grounding post and tightened a nut down on it. Reattached the batteries, tur…
