I've also got a job for a 2001 Dodge truck by a local rancher that has just had a starter fire. When I inspected the truck tonight the truck does indeed still start and run but watching closely I started see white smoke from the starter again. After crawling on my back and looking up there is something damage in the brush plate and shorted out. Which then allowed it to ignite the oil and fuel slobbered on the engine. There is a few 3rd party wires that are burnt but nothing system critical. So when I get back down to doing the job I'll take my camera along and pop some pictures. Safety sake I left the truck with the batteries disconnected till I get back.

So the other week I installed one of Southbend's street dual discs, along with an upgraded input shaft and upgraded southbend hydros. I noticed that it was very hard to get into gear, and yes I have the pedal adjusted above the brake about 1"and I understand its a heavy dual disc. Figured it just needed to drive it a bit and put a couple miles on it. Long story short I needed to replace my transfer case tailshaft seal. Then when pulling my truck out of the garage I noticed that when trying to put it in reverse the truck was moving slightly backwards, telling me that the clutch is clearly dragging. My first attempt to solve this issue was to call Southbend thi…

I keep reading in the news about how the new owners of "Chrysler & etc" are planning to separate Dodge autos from Dodge trucks... in my mind they are preping to sell off the truck division. Meanwhile assembly lines are shut down, engine lines are shut down... My daily driver is a Cirrus. I wonder if the French get it that American drivers do not want & I doubt will buy some warmed over Renault. I fear these missteps will put Chrysler... bailed out with tax payer money... into the crapper for good! Russ

After weighing out a new paint job cutting and welding up the top and new glass, hood, bed, fenders and hood it looks easier to swap trucks? It seems a gas 2500 4x4 manual is way cheaper then the diesels ones are. SO is it a real big job to put my running diesel and 6 speed into a gas truck and use the parts off my diesel to beef up the gas power train? I have the complete power train and a great looking dash for all the electrical. Then I could part out the rest of the truck to cover some of the costs. I see 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4s going for $4,500.00 with nice bodys and interior but high miles on them. I could not get a good paint job for that price let alone all the body …

The bracket they send you is absolute garbarge. So if any one on here has one please let me know how you mounted it. Thanks You can see a picture of the heater I here: http://hotstart.com/home/products/tank-style-engine-preheaters/small-tank-style-heaters-tps-models/

Well after installing my gauges and DDRP I finally got the P1688 "dead" code. My gauge still wasnt showing as much pressure as I thought it should have (12-15 idle...I could pull it below 5 with throttle). I'm pulling pressure thru top filter housing from outlet banjo thru a snubber. I assumed I should swap the filter anyhow. Regardless after I got up to temp, the truck stalled. When hot and bumping the starter the lift pump didnt seem to be running. Had no pressure and no start. I pulled code to get the P1688. Can the VP code cause the lift pump to not run (when hot)? After a few hours, I started truck and drove it to the house. Same pressures 12-15 at idle.I'…

Anyone heard of RAE Diesel (Reman Auto Electronics)? They are Part of Flight Systems Electronics group http://www.remanautoelectronics.com/about https://www.fseg.net/ I talked to them seems like a winner . The ECMs are re-manufactured, up graded, and also repaired if needed , not just repaired .

My truck is a 2001. I was just wondering exactly where the stock transmission temperature is actually getting read from. I have a Edge Juice sensor in a goerend deep pan. The difference in temp between the Edge sensor and the truck sensor varies between 15-30 degrees. I ask because the other day it was 95 out and I was picking up some firewood rounds and my truck sensor hit 228. About a five mile drive with 4 stop lights. At the time I didn't have the Edge sensor up on my screen so I have no idea what it was at.

I've got this goofy situation going on and was hoping y'all could check my thinking. I'm working on a friends truck that started and died the other day. I get up there expecting to find a bad VP. Instead, I find there is no fuel getting to the lift pump. (Yes, it is a block mounted pump. 300k miles on it!) So I disconnect the suction line from the pump and blow into it. I can hear bubbles in the tank. Now, I pressurize the tank. Barely any fuel comes out. I reconnect all lines, bump the starter, and blow into the tank as the pump is running to force prime it. No go. Should I be looking at a partially plugged line? Or partially plugged basket?

WhT are common symptoms of thermostat failure? This morning I shut the truck down without paying attention to the coolant temp and started it right back up and it’s readimf around 145 155 degrees. Usually it’s right at 180 after I’ve driven it for 25 miles like I just did.

Hey guys. Have a question about my truck wondering if you can shed some light. I bought this truck a couple years ago and have been slowly restoring it. I hear a loud knock/clank I believe to be coming from cyl 5 or 6. I say this because I originally thought the TC bolts were loose. I checked them. Removed, locktite, retourqued. I cracked fuel injector lines one by one to try to isolate noise, etc. Each line I cracked, I heard a noicable miss but the noise never stopped. Today I took my valve cover off to look for anything obvious. I found a few things! I see all my rockers getting evenly oiled, no visibly bent pushrods, no dropped valves/carbon buildup anywhere. …

Well, got my diagnosis from the trans shop today, the 47re needs a full rebuild. They want to charge me 1500-2000 for a stock rebuild and 2500-3000 for an updated rebuild. Considering I could buy a waranteed reman for that or do a 5 spd swap, I think I'll be going elsewhere. I'm looking at Shift Rite (out of Kankakee IL) or Smart Parts. Both have warantees and seem comparable. Any words on which is better? Shift Rite is a couple hour drive away so I can bring my broken trans in and make sure it passes core inspection, then leave with my new trans and save shipping cost, so I like that idea. Any other brands out there in the $1500 range I should look at? …
