2nd Generation Dodge 24 Valve Powertrain

This is a discussion forum of the 1998.5 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system. This includes all sub-system including wiring, fuel, oil, exhaust, air, transmission, computers and sensors.

    2002 2500 with I think factory tow package has both 4 pole and 7 hooks up. The 4 way works like it should. Turn signals and brakes. The 7 way only had turn signals and brake light brake box wouldn't come on either. Checked the 40 amp fuse under the hood for the trailer and it was bad swapped it out. Brake box worked and had running lights. Then the ground wire on the trailer was smoking and my third brake like was stuck on till we unhooked trailer. What is wired wrong on this truck? It ain't the trailer. I think something was odd about dodge wiring but I cant recall what. Any help is appreciated.

    A few months ago I hooked up to a trailer and smoked a few wires and the brakes dont work anymore on it. I been trying to figure out what was wrong with my truck. However using a test like everything is hooked up as it should be. Anyone have any suggestions??

    I was coming home yesterday towing my trailer and a car on it cruising at 70 mph in cruise all off a sudden the rear tires locked up and I skidded to a stop leaving a nice long set of dually tracks on the road. Luckily I wasn't on to big of a highway. Anyway initially I thought rear end was locked up but that's not the case. The trucked would not pull forward at all, but when the roll back pulled the truck backwards it rolled smooth and then when he pulled it forward after pulling it backwards it pulled fine no issues. Unloaded the truck and I drove it into the shop. Now I haven't broke into anything yet the driveshaft doesnt seem twisted all the u joints are still tight …

    I have ended up with a 71/71/15 non wastegated t4 k29 borgwarner turbo. Anyone on here ever run one? I assume it's to small to run in a compound set up. But I'm wondering how it would run as a single ? Truck is purely a street truck that gets used on weekends I dont ever tow with my truck maybe once or twice a year only light loads.

    At 75 mph my engine will cut out like it’s hit a governer or lost fuel pressure but comes back then cuts out and comes back and so on anyone have any ideas? Also fuel pressure on my edge does not cut out stays at the same psi when problem is occuring new fuel filters new o rings in air-dog 165 new check valve in vp44 and clean air filter

    I’m considering messing with my injector pop off pressures. Iv heard of people having good results with 320 bar with the 75HP sticks. Basically I want the optimal pop pressure for my truck that is not running any tuning just the larger injectors. Part of the reason I’m pulling them is to make sure I have them installed correctly and all washers, o rings, etc are properly installed. Anyways what’s the verdict on pop pressures?

    Well it came to bite me with age now. All my original AirDog hoses from way back in 2005 (I think) now started a leak on the line between the stock filter to the VP44. Most likely from being messed with during the gauge install. So the truck is parked for the time being and Eric is sending me a 14 foot roll of Parker Fuel line for my truck I'm going to replace all my fuel lines.

  8. Ok Gang... I know we got a lot of knowledgeable guys with a few extra part in the garage and a bit of extra time here and there... I got a wonderful member that is need of help here. Russ is in a pinch with the economy going down and with his disabilities it hard for him to do the work himself. So I'm asking all the members of the site to please look at this message below and see if you can help Russ out... What I'm asking is if there is any member on the east coast near Rhodes Island that could give Russ a hand by either donating time or possibly parts to his cause.

    hey guys looking for injection line for number 1 cylinder from injection pump to head just had one rupture broke down on the side of the road I 95 toll road approximately 2 miles north of exit 7 in Maine is anybody anywhere remotely close that might have a source for that injection line please call me ASAP directly my cell number is 541 232 9958

    So my daily finally left me stranded. For starters my WTS has always been sluggish to come on when starting the truck. It would not start until WTS light came on. Would crank and crank unless I waited for light. I figured it was a good habit anyways. On my way to work Saturday I noticed my headlights were dimming on and off, pretty abnormal because ambient temp was mid 40s and truck started like normal. After getting to work, I drove the truck 5 to 6 times to get tools with no problems at all. Finally getting geared up to go home, wait for WTS, light comes on, so I crank and get nothing. Now have no WTS and no start. Fuel pressure is at 18lbs. Code reade…

    my truck is not starting ?!!!!! when i go to start it, it just cranks and cranks im not getting any power to my lift and inj. pump. truck is stock but a couple people told me it was a bad ecm ? went threw the wires they seemed fine noticed im not getting rpms though when its cranking. so i replaced the crank sensor. still not moving. i got the lift pump to run with the relay jumped but plug it back in and it dosent fire up need some help maybe a wire diagram ??or just some expert thoughts !thanks !

  16. hi having trouble with hard start when warm, long extended crank will usually start, aways starts right up on cold start, some times will crank 30 seconds when warm any help app., also has codes 1693 cant seem to get other codes, key truick does not work on 98.5, i have snapon brick, and otc scan tool. has fuel pressure gauge, lift pump seems to working ok, thanks dale, also would like to add that injection pump was replaced with cardone reman pump, about 6 months ago, but only has about 2000 miles on it,

  17. I need to change the air dog 100 filter which filter do I choose. I see the 2 micron and the 10 micron on amazon not sure which is best I believe there is a 10 micron in there now. Thanks

    Looks like there’s 3 plugs on my trans. One I assume is the speed sensor which is near the back. Then there is the big sorta round plug up high pointing down and then there is one on an angle just above the pan. What is that one just above the pan? I’m dealing with my TC not u locking when it should. I unplugged the big round plug and it was still locked and stalled the engine. I unplugged the lower one above the pan and the motor wouldn’t even turn over. There’s 3 wires in that plug, one of them is very twisted up and has a bare spot.

    I have had weird electrical problems with the truck for years. But never let me down except original vp44 crapped out a year in a half ago and replaced it. My belt snapped in my driveway Recently and I needed to get new battery as well so I decided to inspect clean or replace a few grounds and do a few things on the truck. Battery, 2 new terminals, oil filter change and fuel filter change add a new fp gauge sensor and buy all new fuses for the truck while Inside and out and new tensioner because it was worn out.     Going to try and keep this from becoming a long novel...I basically have 2 separate issues in 1 thread (might be related). Long story short, I have been having these intermittent surging issues since late May of this year (happened 4 times I believe). Fast forward to now I am dealing with three things: P1693 P1698 High Parasitic Draw For the longest time I was getting a solo P1693 with my scanner which as I understand cannot exist by itself.
