Alright, so reading into another topic, I see a recommendation was made to make upgrades to the transmission area when installing an exhaust brake.I called Pac brake, and the guy said he had never heard of doing such a thing. All he mentioned was that the auto's have a controller. It really is not much for me to go off of. So if I go pac brake down the road and don't install a stiffer flexplate and input shaft, will I be risking it?

  2. The new truck I bought (2002 in sig) turns out to have a bit different trans than the seller advertised... I still would have bought the truck, but I need to make some changes. The trans was the only non stock part I couldn't verify before the quick sale the guy needed. The trans was supposed to be a BD torque converter, billet input, street/towing valve body, and sun coast guts. I did some hunting and found the shop that did the trans. The builder was a good guy and honest with me. He also let me know that his 3 year 36k mi warranty also applied to me, since he knows the truck. What I got was a hardened cryo treated input shaft, CVC stock replacement converter, good se…

  3. hey guys been a while and i need some more help, today i noticed a good amount of tranny fluid under my truck after the morning commute, i de-greased, rinsed and inspected and it looks like its coming from the tranny cooler lines (the "isolater blocks" had moved allowing the hard lines to rub for who knows how long) i am ordering the "DieselManor Generation 2 Cooler Line for 1994-2002 Dodge RAM Cummins" with the port for trans temp guage but i cant find the rest of the lines on the web! any ideas? dont want to go to the dealership." also when i turn on my a/c i get a plesant aroma of anti freeze with the occasional puff of white smoke from the vents. heater core going b…

I have a 99 24v 2500 2wd Mostly happens when truck warmed up' It will drop out of OD and sometimes then drop to 2nd. I have dome all the cleaning up etc. I have fresh pink fluid no slipping just wont stay in od mostly. A funny thing is when it does this if you set the cruise it will take off running faster.Trans was rebuilt according to previous owner but don't know who. I have been told that the shifts are controlled by electric in trans. Have not but do intend to replace VSS, but got a feeling it is more then that. Thank you for any help [i do have a new alternator on way for lock/unlock problem.

As I have a 3500 4x4 gas truck sitting not being used and a fair way from being able to be used I'm thinking about breaking it for parts (need the space) what is the difference between a 46RE and a 47RE, trans on the cummins should really be done so I was thinking would it be possible to do the 46 to like dynamics stage 3 trans and its then a 47 ? Or am I missing something. Just read that the trans are basically the same just higher torque rating on the higher 2nd number. Would do the full works think it works out to around 5k. Importing a done trans isn't really feasable due to taxes and shipping charges and core charge

  6. Well it has come time to rebuild my transmission. Ive recently replaced the governor solenoid and sensor, adjusted bands and replaced filter and fluids. Well now it is not down shifting. The forward band is worn beyond use, and I'm sure that with the shifting issues I've experienced over the last two year that the rest of the internal works are worn just as bad. Ive adjusted bands, changed fluid and filter, adjuster TV cable, replaced solenoid and sensor, and still no improvement. So it is just worn out, closing in on 200,000 miles with a stock tranny, I can't complain. :lol:So I'm doing the Sun Coast M3GA 3 Alto Transmission Kit, Sun COast Triple Disc Torque Converter, …

1998 24v 47re trans. 100k miles on the clock. Edge EZ, bhaf, and exhaust. I am having some slipping which which I notice when I roll on the throttle at highway speeds in overdrive with the TC locked up. I was convinced it was pushing through the lockup clutch and I was about ready to order a TC and valvebody. Now I’m not 100% convinced that will solve my issue and thinking maybe it’s my overdrive gear that’s slipping?? Is it common for overdrive to slip in these trans? I can turn off OD but then I have trouble even telling if and/or when the TC even locks up. Does anyone have any tips on how to really narrow it down?

New to the community today! Excited to meet you all, been lurking for a while. This may end up being a bit long winded, I figure the more info the better for opinions. Truck Is a 1999 24V 2500 ex cab automatic190,000+ miles (owned since 111,000) I had transmission flushed and filter changed early on. Some point a couple years in i started to get some transmission "hunting?" on hills in higher gear range with low throttle 45mph-ish (thinking in and out of overdrive?) Anyway, I had resolved this issue it seamed by moving the large ground wire away from the alternator to the top the radiator.. This worked for me for a few years. This makes me believe I must have the AC …

  9. Well I was changing the fluid and filter in my wonderful stock 47re yesterday. Found what looked like a 5 inch diameter snap-ring in pieces attached to the magnet in the trans pan. Had a good bit of metal shavings on the magnet also. Trans is also slipping when it shifts gears now with the fluid lever full. Worked fine until changing the fluid and filter. Anyone ever run into this? Has anyone ever used Revmax parts for their trans?

  10. I posted this over at the cummins fourm and did not get any responce worth looing in to. i seem to get a more mature responce over here. I have a used 01 24v with and auto transmission. I know they don’t last forever. I do not know what has been done to the truck. When I bought it had gauges pryo, boost, trans temp, and part of a bully dog security system. I tow very little. But it’s a jeep or fire wood when I do. My question is when I add an edge comp what’s going to happen to my transmission. How bad can it be? Should I just let the TC blow? What happens when it goes? What about the clutch pack? I don’t know what work has been done to it. The car fax said th…

  11. I've spent the better part of a day an a half searching for someone that has posted something similar to the problems that I am having with no avail. I am hoping someone has some insight. This is on my 2001 4X4 that is pretty much stock. Background - It is on the third engine that I know of with the most recent swap being about 4 months ago. I do have codes that I have pulled with a scanner, but do not remember the numbers, something related to no communication from the transmission BUS. I believe that it is a ground or a plug somewhere, but being a new member I do not have access to the files that I need to trace it. I have gone through the schematics on the main sit…

Autoignition DefinitionThe autoignition temperature or kindling point of a substance is the lowest temperature at which it will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. This temperature is required to supply the activation energy needed for combustion. The temperature at which a chemical will detonate decreases as the pressure increases or oxygen concentration increases. It is usually applied to a combustible fuel mixture.Autoignition temperatures of liquid chemicals are typically measured using a 500 mL flask placed in a temperature controlled oven in accordance with the procedure described in ASTM E659…

  16. For my truck in the signature. No codes. Batteries clean. 13.8 to 13.9 volts. Tranny flush 20k ago. Fluid is red and no burnt smell to it. We used the truck to flatbed my sons' 06 Dodge home the other day. The trans temp light came on as he was coming up our hill. Now for the symptom: in 3rd gear it sometimes will not kick into 3rd gear. It will shift from 1st to 2nd. Tranny works in R, 1, and 2 positions. Any suggestions?

ok automatic tranny guys..good thing to check is the line on the drivers side, rear line.it is the return line.that line there going up to the tranny cooler lays on the the front cross memeber and can and will cause it happend to me saturday will vibrate and wear a hole in the tubing if you dont cut a piece of rubber hose and clamp it to it.we cut the bad spot out, double flared it,and put a piece of tranny hose rated on it and clamped it in front of double flare so it would blow off.the lines are half inch...fyi...hope this helps!!

Hello, I have a 1999 dodge ram 2500 with the cummins obviously and a hurting automatic transmission, I dont know if the unit needs to be completly rebuilt again or what, but it will not shift firm, like before, it hesitates and has developed a studder shift were it shifts up down then up agian this occurs in first and seccond and seccond to third. I am lost on these trannys and it has gotten worse since my last post, I really dont want to fork out another 2500 and up for another rebuild which was done only a year and a half ago, is this possibly a computer problem? If i have to rebuild it again is it worth it, if so where should I go i live in Wisconsin and am not reall…

  19. The sage of the leaking cooler lines continues. In Dec 2014 replaced the hard line from the cooler to the transmission, it started leaking. Thought it was the rubber hose with the PITA connector. Bought a replacement from NAPA, it leaked worse than when I started. Took it back apart and found it cracked by the ferrule in the hard line. NAPA replaced it under warranty. Now the line from the front cooler to the block mounted cooler is split. The replacement line is 95.00 NAPA/ 67.00 AMAZON. Just frustrated. Anyone changed out all the line for something different?

Is it true that our auto transmissions don't reach full cooling capacity until lockup in 4th gear? I have not got my Posi-lock installed yet and I doing a tow with my travel trailer this weekend. So when going up a paved steep road that would normally be in second gear for a few miles. Should I disconnect the vacuum line and run in 2 wheel drive low range in 4th or 5th gear for optimum cooling of transmission? I don't have a Trans temp gauge yet to monitor.
