Driving to work yesterday, on the highway at 65 or so, everything is normal.Noticed that the tach needle burped... went from 2000 rpm to halfway to zero to a second then back up to normal.Another mile down the road and it got worse... tach needle went to zero and the overhead display shows "CCD" or the like. Engine runs fine, not a miss. Tach starts working a bit later and the overhead display returned to normal.Got to work and shut the truck down and restarted it and it runs fine, checked for codes and did not find any.Anyone ever have this happening and if so what in the world is it?? Thanks,FT

  3. I've noticed a vibration in 6th gear on the highway in my '02 HO CTD. If I am gradually accelerating, the vibration begins at 72 mph, and continues on up through 80 mph (I haven't been up much higher). But if I am on the pedal, the vibration will begin as soon as I hit 6th at around 55 mph or so. The vibration feels like it's coming from the rear half the truck (I can't feel much of it in the steering wheel, but a little shake is there). Around town at lower speeds and in 1st-5th it drives smooth. I haven't heard any noises coming from the drivetrain either. Has anyone experienced this same symptom? Or have thoughts on the source? Maybe a wearing u-joint? The tires are f…

  5. 02 3500 dually 6sp NV5600 Rear wheel drive 3.55 ratio dana 80 Are you or do you know of anyone running 3.31 ratio gears in a dana 80? I'm currently running 3.55's and would like to switch to 3.31's so I can run lower rpm's in 5th (1:1) gear while towing. If you have done this I would like to hear about what you think & how your truck is performing while running 3.31's. Thanks!

I’m looking at buying a 99 24 valve that has been rolled over to either part out or fix up. It has 285k runs well drives well I’m not sure if it’s a 5 or 6 speed yet. Owner claims it gets 21MPG on hwy. Also says he still drives the truck occasionally. He wants 4500$. What do you guys think? Alright, so I'm gonna get my A/C evacuated so I can pull the dash and replace the heater core. The problem is, how do I disconnect the A/C lines that go to the evaporator? I thought there was a simple trick to do them and could avoid buying the line disconnect tools, but I do not remember what the trick was. Or is there a trick?

Well... My starter is not hitting all the time anymore and I know the starter contacts are to blame. So I guess its time to make a order to LarryB and get a rebuild kit for the old starter... I'm going to pull the starter out tomorrow morning and pull it apart to inspect everything so while I'm at it I'm going to have the cameras handy and make a write up of it...

  10. 5.16 Lubricity Diesel fuel injection systems rely on the diesel fuel to prevent wear in moving parts. In limited cases, some diesel fuel with very specific properties can have insufficient lubricating properties, which can lead to excessive wear of fuel injectors and pumps. The primary properties of concern are low viscosity and lack of lubricity. The minimum viscosity is controlled by ASTM D 975 and historically lubricity has been provided by naturally occurring surface active materials. However, these natural lubricity agents can be removed if severe hydrotreating processing is used. Hydroprocesses are used to reduce sulfur and aromatics contents and with …

  11. First time to post – Amateur Cummins owner. My truck is 2001 2500 4WD Quadcab 5 speed – 4 inch MBRP exhaust with Donaldson muffler is only changes. Truck has 115,000 miles. I was driving in the PM (warm day) and the vehicle lost acceleration while pulling a hill in 5 gear (nothing in tow). I pulled over and the truck never went dead. Once stopped I was able to change into 1st and pull away with no other issues. The truck did something similar one other time in the past with same circumstances (traveling up hill in 5th gear) but did not have to pull over that time. I pulled the codes out when I got home and found the following P1693, P0216. I have been told the VP4…

So as some of you know I've been through 4 or so power steering pumps (All napa warrantied) The pumps work fine for about a month or so until it starts to moan a bit. I don't have any issues with steering (same effort as before) brakes work very well too, so I don't think there's a restriction anywhere in the lines. I can tell you my hydroboost pressure lines are on fire though (not sure about steering box line.) They'll literally burn you after running for 30 min or more. After about a month the fluid starts to smell very burned and the moaning starts. I'm wondering if a cooler like the 3rd gen trucks have might up the capacity and keep all of the fluid cooler. May…

  15. So I replaced the fuel lines from the injector pump to where it T's off to the back of the motor and then the fuel return line. I went to replace the fuel pump with a drp2 but the connections are different (mustvhave been replaced at some point) Anyways. I go to start it after and nothing. No wait to start light and no power to the pump. No codes.I wired the pump to the battery and it will run. I also tried to put in a new relay switch drawing power from the brown/white wire going into the PCM and still nothing. I then replaced the ECM with a good used one and at the same time replaced the alternator in case there was any noise. Turned it on today and nothing. S…

At my last fill up I decided to set the EZ on level 3 just for the hell of it. I've had it on the truck for years and my MPG's would always drop on level 3 and I'm confident my driving style hasn't changed. I got 40 more miles off the top half of this tank than I did the last one. I don't know if the fuel station recently switched back to summer blend yet or what happened. Any thoughts on this?

I've decided to go a different route on my truck, so I am going to sell my HE351CW turbo. I figured I would post this turbo on here and see if anyone was interested in it before throwing it up on CF. It came off of an 05 cummins with about 130xxx miles on it. I got it, built a manual wastegate for it (I have pictures of everything) and put a batmowheel on it. What do you guys think it is worth? I have the cost of the turbo, 400$ in the batmowheel 60$ in the wastegate plug from DAP and a few other odds and ends. If anyone here is interested PM me and we can talk. If you have a guess of what is is worth let me know! Thanks - Tyler

Already know my VP44 is on its way out. Other than having to warm it up considerably before it will perform decently I really hadn't had much of a problem with it. Around 14 mpg on the highway and such. Now I get home from being out of town and jump into my truck , which by the way was used by my wife with no problems over the weekend. Now the tranny is acting up. Will sometimes not shift into drive or reverse when i move the gear selector. When it does shift the only way I know its shifted is by pressing on the gas and it creeps forward. Drove it around the block and it wasn't shifting into second and was racing or flaring or whatever you call it. Checked the fluid and i…

Im fairly certain my VP44 took a big ol' dump on me the other day and now I have to spend a grand on another one. Im trying to troubleshoot so that I dont have to spend ANOTHER grand on a pump.It seems to me that the main issue with these pumps going bad is the fuel not being cooled enough and the pump and/or electronics overheat. So would it be a good idea to either:A. Coil the fuel line up after the filter housing (kind of looking like brake lines by a master cylinder) before it goes into the VP.orB. run the fuel lines through some sort of a small oil or tranny cooler mounted in the front somewhere after the filter housing but before the VP.Am I WAAAAY off base here? an…

Hey guysThinking of doing a band adjustment - recommended by a smart man/friend on another site.Don't know much about it - seems not too hard - just be careful with torque.Anyone with extra input here ? Personal experience ??I seem to be slipping a little in my transmission - so was going to try this first , get a diagnostic from an auto shop in STL 2nd , then some trans additive (seafoam transtune) 3rd and if all else fails looks like I am up for a new trans :cry:Any advice hugely appreciated.ISX - might even ping you one day and if I can get to you see if you can give me you 2 cents worth after you take her for a drive - even throw in a beer or a pitcher of ice cool le…
