My brother has a 2012 range rover 6 cylinder V6 diesel, he did about 6 hours work with me last night servicing and repairs to a Cat 950H on a site I look after in return for me doing a fault on a range rover POS Fault is low boost code P1247 turns out the intake manifold right hand side (plastic FFS) is cracked, believe it or not it is also the cam cover, it has took 8 hrs to get the cover off, no access to anything at all, brother tells me IF the 2 turbos (1 each side) need replacing it's £5K to take the body off to get to them and after looking this is the way to do turbos on this junk. I have been a proper UK apprentiship trained diesel mechanic for 43 yea…

I figure I should start a thread, if for nothing else to fill my time. Per my other post I picked up a 2000 BMW 323IT. From the factory it came with a M52b25. stock 168 hp and 181 ft/lb torque, AKA slow. the PO had the insight to swap in a M54B30 + 6 speed from a BMW 330i ZHP. Those put out 235hp with 222 ft/lb torque. needless to say it is a good bit quicker than it was stock. Car has some issues that need to be addressed, but it is rust free and in pretty good shape considering the age. First thing first was the rims, they were from a 5 Series BMW so the offset was incorrect result…

So, maybe this isn't the place for this, but I figured there are quite a few people who have these trucks also have property that necessitates having some sort of utility vehicle. Its also difficult to find any reviews on these. Currently it shows about 660 miles, and If I had to guess, about 250-300 hours. More on that further on. Issues... In general, I'm quite happy with it overall. I've only ever had one issue and three complaints. At about 150 miles, I started hearing a clunking. The clunking was from the bolts that hold the U-Joint flange to the Yoke flange on the rear diff coming loose. Two of the bolts came out, two were loose, fixed u…

Well gents, about 3 months ago I replaced the O-rings on the dv holders and it hasn't quite run right since. I suspect that it is somehow sucking air or leaking fuel into the crank case. They are very simple injection pumps and I, for the life of me, cannot figure out where I went wrong. If anyone here has an idea or has worked on these, I'm all ears. It runs well at WOT against the gov, but the idle acts like it drops a cylinder. If you engage the blades too quickly, it will bog down and stay there or die. Can be hard to start sometimes. I rotated the barrels to max fuel and the issue is somewhat better but still not normal. It ran fine before I replace…

Where do I start .... I guess in the beginning ha ha. So I got this 2013 vw jetta sportwagen tdi for a commutter, only after I did research and found parts and people to help with the pump swap . These are pretty decent cars after few minor corrections and good on fuel consumption, I keep telling myself that. I couldn't find a cp3 kit in US, Seems all outfits stopped selling them shortly before I got the car. After some research I found a kit on ebay, ships from Romania. Investigated farther and found some threads on line with Aurelian aka Mark radiators, discussing his pump that he also sells on ebay. So I got a hold of him and he sold me the conversion k…

Well I not only have a beat up Dodge truck, but I also have a 1989 bmw 750il. Yep quarter century old bmw v12, good choice huh hahah I've always had a soft spot for the older BMW sedans. I have had E36 318is SOOO SLOW, but ran good at 260,000 miles not worth a picture E34 540i 6 speed, quick and fun had big dreams with a small wallet E34 530it Awesomely fun to drive soccer mom car. I sold it at 297,000 miles and it still ran like a tank, I later found it at a junkyard. That hurt. If you care to read the story of this car it can be found HERE and finally the current E32 750il …

I know there is a few guys in here that have run the 1.9 Tdi. I need a quick low-down on what's-what. TDi for 'dummies' if you will Please explain the differences in what I'm seeing; ALH, BEW, AAZ.. American side, Canadian side configurations... etc etc. all of these run egr? Mechanical versions.. and computer managed.. years made.. Immobilization enabled versions... I suppose those were built from the low 2000's onward, Probably the exact versions to stay away from in a 'swap' scenario.. I've seen some 'tuned' to around 150 hp, and still reliable. …

Well due to an incompetent dealer service center I am now in the process of doing a DPF delete and EGR block on the new to us 2014 Jetta TDI. Had an exhaust temp sensor go bad and dealer drug their feet on lining up the repair and not returning my wifes calls for a couple weeks, she had it in to program a new key fob and the day before the check engine lite came on and they checked and said bad egt sensor and reset lite and sent her on her way and said let them know if it comes back on, well came on same day so she calls sets up another apt to supposedly repair but she shows up a week later and they do not even look at car say they have to order part, another week and sti…

We recently acquired this tractor in support of developing a 3-acre property in the middle of nowhere (the best place to be). As with just about any service there are no repair shops for anything out here so we're on our own as always. It has a LA344 Loader on it and we have a few other attachments for the rear. The machine has about 50 hours on it now. If anyone has any recommendations for sources and types of engine oil and/or engine coolant that would be good to know. It believe there are likely less expensive equivalents to all of the "Kubota" brand products. We have selected AMALLIE Ultra All-Track 245 for the transm…

I got a 2.3 vtec that I drive every day for work 160 ml a day and every Friday I add almost a quart of oil maybe 800ml. I read that a lot of people have this issue where vtecs consume oil. It did it when I first bought it few years ago, but I was consuming around 600ml, so it went up slightly. It now has 227k on the clock. I checked compression and all cylinders are the same, I did not do leak down test yet. I believe po ran it low on oil and scuffed-up cylinder number one, or it has broken rings on number one. I took all spark plugs out and 2,3,4 look good and clean and looks good inside the cylinder, 1 is ugly and cylinder is wet, it seems to be oil residue. So I believ…

A friend has a 2006 Nissan UD 2600 turbo diesel with over 400k miles. Last month the truck had no top end power and would stall at every stop when fully warmed up. He brought it into the local shop where they found 2 injectors bad. After replacing all the injectors the engine ran fine for about a week. Now after a run down the freeway when stopping the idle will oscillate between 700-400 RPM then die and can be restarted immediatly. Any one have experience with this?

So I went to do a brake job on a Honda CR-V with over 227,000 miles on it. And the customer had a brake noise coming from the front end. The issue I found was that the drivers side caliper had a frozen glide bolt. And on top of that the shim was slid all of tthe way down on one side. I've never seen this in 15 years doing brake jobs, and I'm almost sure it was done on purpose. So now the car makes a clunking nose because the pads are now lose inside the brackets, but I found that these calipers are original to the car. I figured you guys would find this interesting. I put the brake system back together and I told them that they shoul…

I am so tired of bending over for the outrageous prices the Kubota dealer charges me. I need a maintenance kit for my Kubota RTVX 1100C. Which would you recommend? This one: https://messicks.com/part/77700-05389/kubota-rtv-x1100c-rtv-x1120d-filter-kit or this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Kubota-RTV-X1100C-RTV-X1120D-Filter-Maintenance-Kit/263689633486?hash=item3d65207ece:g:IpEAAOSwy6hanqgb:rk:4:pf:1&frcectupt=true if anyone has another suggestion, please throw it out there.

I need to replace the engine harness in my TDI. I just thought I'd share some pictures: The reason I have to replace it is because there are a couple poorly protected areas of the harness where the wire jackets suffer vibration damage. This is one of those spots. The harness is wrapped with harness tape everywhere, except for here [below]. For this section, they stopped wrapping with tape, and substituted with this semi-translucent black fabric that kinda looks like really thin and very fine-pitch velcro. This section of wire is prone to chafing as it wraps around the oil-filter housing. In my amateur opinion…

Mother in law has a 2011 Toyota rav4. Recently she said she's been having to add about a quart once a month to keep the oil level from going low. I've been knocking theories around in my head and would like input. I had her put cardboard under the car to see if it has been leaking. Nothing dripping. The exhaust isn't smoky nor smell like burning oil. The fuel mileage and performance and drivability is un changed. She's not growing coolant either. I don't get how she's losing a quart a month without noticing how? Any one have ideas? I told her next oil change have them look under the car for leaks. If nothing is found in thinking compression testi…

I'm waiting at a red light and guy cut corner short and runs into front of me in wives 06 CRV. Bumper needs replaced. Online bumpers cost $80-$130.00. Honda dealer wants $345.00. Doesn't need painted, just bolt on. Looking at YouTube vid, looks to me about maybe 2 hours remove and 2 hours replace. About 8 bolts and some plastic holders. My insurance company says get two estimates and they will fix. Estimates are $680.00 and $745.00. We were planning on trading her car in late this summer. But now wondering .... Will "car fax" show car has been in a wreck if insurance company does not pay to fix. My thinking is I might have better trade in val…

Here is my issue, am re-powering a Kubota tractor with a newer bigger engine from a different application, problem is the engine I am putting in is a direct injection engine and parts i need for my application are rare and i can't find what I need used and new parts are really expensive. I need a different fuel injection pump cam and the ones i have sourced are from Indirect injection engines of the same size but the cam lobes are a bit larger diameter on the IDI engines than on mine and i am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a cam regrind shop that will do custom work? I can send in one of the larger diameter sourced cams and send in mine …
