Been looking at hitches for a 5th wheel and wondering what benefit there is of converting the king pin to a goose setup. My thoughts are infinite articulation. Dunno what kind of articulation you get in a king pin setup? As well the other point would be that if you had a gooseneck setup, then obviously spending money on a king pin hitch is not worth it. But heck, seems like most king pin hitches are about $400. This adapter is about that: http://www.reese-hitches.com/products/Fifth_Wheel_to_Gooseneck_Coupler_Adapter,C5G I do have future plans to tow a gooseneck trailer, so would it be worth my time to get a goose setup and then get the adaptor and tow a 5th with it?

The time has come to buy some new tires. Seems like I am burning through them at a pretty rapid rate. Wear is even, just wearing down fast. The current set are some off brand of tire, which explains why the low mileage. 25,000 miles ~1.5 year since I got them. Seems like towing the gooseneck really ramped up the rate of wear. I have no need for offroad style tires, the truck has been retired from off roading duty anyways. So I have a few choices here, I have a set of 17" alum rims on the side of the house I can throw lt tires on. 235/80/17 $150-200 per tire I have also been eyeing some 19.5" setups with com…

Today went to Dealer to get a 2003 Elkhorn slide camper. It is a camper made for a short bed truck. The deal was done. Then i got the bright idea too weight my truck do to seeing that the camper weighed in at 2,745 lbs. The truck weighed in at 6,545 lbs. The total weight was 9.290 and put me 490 lbs over my GVWR of 8,800 lbs. So i had to break the deal. Now i know i have seen trucks like mine with even bigger camper on them. Are they setup in some special way? The dealer said airbags. But my thoughts are they would only make the load "happier" and not increase the GVWR. There is only 2,255 lbs to play with for the payload of my truck and there isn't too many NICE camper in…

So I decided to buy my mothers camper from her instead of hauling it to NY where it would most likely sit and get destroyed by rodents. It's a 25' 2020 Coleman, been camped in once and my mother lived in it for about 6 months before she flew to NY. I have a little 1200/1000 watt generator I was using with my pop up that I know is not up to the task. I'm still trying to find the paperwork for this thing to get official numbers but I think they may have gotten packed in my mothers things. It has A/C, Fridge, microwave and the other typical accoutrements. I would like to get a generator capable of running the A/C, from what I gather I should be looking at 3500 watt mini…

Figured I would start my own thread and add pics of myself hauling things rather than cluttering up someone elses thread.MIL wants to sell her 1994 S10 Blazer 4.3 multi port auto with 267k miles on it and has been parked for over 2 years, throw new battery in it and still no start, add fresh gass check spark both good, no fuel so it got hand winched onto the trailer to come home with me for a fuel pump and clean up to sell for her."update" got the fuel pump in and she sprang to life, warmed it up and the muffler came apart inside :banghead:Rear rig is a 1990 S10 2.5 5 spd 160k miles my brother in law donated to me, very rusty but engine and tranny are strong runners so ho…

Not really virgin but am to this truck and trailer. (I've towed a 20 something foot wells cargo with a 460cc Ford when I did roofing). Anyway, here are my questions. I just picked up a 33' fifth wheel travel trailer. Dual axles, 8400lbs dry. My truck. 98.5 24v with a bhaf and 4" straight pipe. 285/16 tires. 1. On the way home the truck had a hard time on hills. For example. Went from 65mph down to 45mph on a moderate grade hill. About a half mile long hill. Rpms were about 2800 the whole way up the hill and I was slightly worried about what egt's might have been. I do not have any gages. 2. I had adjusted trailer brakes from my controller to just s…

As posted below, picked up the camper with it's new rubber roof, trim repairs, sealant & calk. One thing he did, per our request... he added rain gutters over the windows where the track had overflowed rain water into the interior. He pointed out that there IS a gutter along the roof edge. I'd never cleaned it out but you can be sure it will be on a regular basis. The added gutter... he called it a "Z" vinyl siding trim piece from house siding... used around doors... and forced it into the trailer siding lap joints. I think it's a '5/8" J molding'. It is very slick. I'm going to observe the operation but may add it to other compartments.

Tried to add this to my original thread but is locked as an archive now so on to part 2 as the title says lol. Last weekend got the first gooseneck load behind the 2010 Hemi, had my B2150 Kubota tractor and box scraper loaded up inside the new to me 14' PJ dump trailer. Just for reference I have air bags and a B&W turn over gooseneck hitch in the 2010 1500 Hemi. Hemi handled the load better than I thought it would considering I bucked 30+- mph winds during the trip both ways.

This was our first pull and white did great and I really enjoyed myself too. Did not get a full pull but pretty good for the first try. Second pull was better but just a few feet shy still. This is where I ended up on the last pull.

With our new home in our budget now, the need for such a large trailer like our toyhauler is just not necessary for us now. Especially the hefty monthly payment for it. We are looking to downsize to something smaller and affordable. I would like to better utilize the money for other things that can get me ahead instead of paying on an RV that I might use once or twice a year, but paying for it all year long. I'm at a bit of a crossroad with what I want. I would like to get something small if I had to choose a travel trailer. But the idea of a camper is also very appealing as well. We may do some occasional traveling in long distance. We also may go camping onc…

Wife got me a Big Buddy Heater for Christmas. Got the Hose/Line to tap into the house propane system. 12' hose and quick coupling. I know this has been beat to death...literally. What do you guys think about running it all night with all the proper precaustions? Ventiliation, CO detector. I figure this is a forum full of guys that are sound minded. I am leaning towards doing it. I want a CO detector with digital read out. Maybe a cheapo and a digital units. I ordered a PlatCat over a year ago and no dice. Called him once and he said he'd get on it. Now I'm thinking of saving the money and just going Buddy.

Help me with some measurement figures. I was told towing a 5th wheel with a short bed would be fine with a slider but I think I was lied to. Sure I can tow any 5th wheel.....as long as I only go straight. My current 5th wheel hitch has the kingpin 41" from the cab and the slider moves back about 12" or so for tight maneuvers. Trying to find a 5th wheel that will allow normal daily driving is proving to be far more difficult that I was led to believe.

I've been neglecting the ToyHauler... I can't keep up with anything but having this 400 feet from the house really puts it outta sight / outta mind. Our big reenactment trip is in a couple of weeks & suddenly she's announcing all the problems like I'm supposed to magically fix them. I had a bad fall last Friday... but a divot in my head & assorted other bruises. At least the goose egg has gone down but there's a pretty good seam where I hit. Sorry to gripe... you all don't need to hear it all. After having a new rubber roof put on, it only fixed some of the wet spots... The way the roof slopes forward, the water is like Niagara Falls in a heavy rain..…

Hey everyone! I got me a brake controller here. At first, it did not work right at all. I hooked up a trailer to tow a forklift and the lights never worked right. The wiring was all screwed up. I tried fixing it, and it still was not right. Even though I followed exactly what the instructions said. So I took it to a place and it took then like 3-4 hours to fix. Finally, everything was working!I towed a 24' travel trailer, all was well. Well, that was about a month or two ago. I noticed one day, that when I step on the brake pedal, the brake controller light does not come on? It did before after I paid to get it fixed! I checked the fuses, they are good. I have not screwed…

I need to replace the roof on my 5er and plan on doing it myself with help from friends. The local RV shops around here want $5k to start "and it could go up from there". Right now it has an EPDM rubber roof; so has anyone replaced theirs, what did you use, and how hard was it todo?

We have a rental, which she wants me to move into...but what would I do with a 2,000+ sf house? It would cost me thousands to furnish it...starting from zero. So my current thought is to buy a travel trailer bumper pull in the 35' range. They come basically furnished...even with a flat screen tv. Just buy some bedding, pots and pans, dishes and that's about it. Does anyone have suggestions on brand/model? New to a few years old. I'd like to keep the cost down, but financed the payments on a $35,000 unit are pretty affordable. I want a bedroom and no other bunks. Multiple slides would make it feel more spacious. I'd live in it for an undetermined amount of tim…

I am curious about what kind of mileage you guys get hauling your RV's.I get right around 14.1 hauling a 3,000 lb camper. Running around 60 mph. Usually over one mtn. pass and then the rest of the same tank used mostly on level highway. How 'bout you guys?T.I.A.

Well back at it again. Buddy down the road called me this morning and wanted to haul firewood. I was considering just buying a few cords but being the waiting list is too long. I'll just hop out and get a load. So hook up with him this morning...
