So I recently acquired a Quad with V2. However I just finished installing an EGT probe for my Isspro gauge prior to getting the quad. I'd like to run pillar gauges since I have had them on the shelf. But also want the gauge to work with the quad. Can I install another probe either above the current one? Or install the second probe in the front half of the manifold?

just tap and install in the other half of the manifold

I'm using quad probe in the manifold and pillar one in my exhaust break elbow, not that I need it but was in same boat you are so I'm using it.

^^^^^^ what he said. That's what I did.

Thanks. I figured there were others that had the same dilemma.

The variation in temperatures shown between the gauges can be attributed to the calibration differences by the manufacturers as well as cylinder fueling/combustion efficiency.

I am sure some of both, mostly calibration differences.

The aft 3 are supposed to run hotter, which is why they are the preferred ones to monitor.

I put my 2nd probe post-turbo and am glad I did. The info it gives me is much better than having 2 probes in the manifold. Post turbo is quite useful for cool down and lugging, both of which are masked by a pre-turbo probe.

What is the process for adding the probe? Drill and tap the manifold in the rear section? I assume the turbo would need to be removed to catch any metal shavings? Anybody have a suggestion for a gauge?

@Red Rambler Get the tap kit from DAP if you don't have access to those tools. Isspro guages. Install guides: http://www.dieselmanor.com/diy/CMS-G2gauges/CMS-gen2gaugeinstall.asp There are plenty, just search the forums.

Thanks @gipperkid I purchased my mechanical fuel gauge from diesel manor. I can get a 1/8 npt tap from oreillys. I may already have one, just need to check. I was doing some research on glow shift due to price point but quickly said no due to the negative reviews. Isspro is what I am after. I like how diesel manor says to use small drill bits and step up to a larger bit to keeps the shavings small.

When I tapped mine I had the turbo off and just stuck a rag in the manifold, drilled and tapped the hole then pulled the rag out. Cant believe anything small that may have been left behind would not just pass thru.

@AH64ID I like the idea of monitoring temps before and after. I just hate to take the turbo back off to drill the elbow. I could probable put a weld in bung on the down pipe.

Yea. I drilled and tapped mine with the turbo off. Stepped up drill bits to the final size. Use Plenty of WD40 when cutting the threads. Use anti-seize on the probe adapter threads.

Can’t you pull the elbow with the turbo still in the truck?

I’m interested to see which one reads higher during high idle, if you’ve got it enabled.

@crf450ish I wish I did. No one around has a smarty I can borrow. And I'm definitely not paying the dealer. Need to buy a new pyro for the quad also.

Do you have pics of your post turbo probe setup?

Dude you can rent a smarty from DAP in Utah. By snail mail. They place a hold on your card for the cost of a smarty ($600) and once they get it back safe & sound thy refund you the $540. Yes, it costs $60 to rent. Oh well. It works and hey, you get to play with a smarty for a bit. Just don’t stack it with anything. At all!
