Hey guys, 

while under the hood of my truck, I found this elbow that goes from the airbox into the turbo. It’s cracked pretty good. Any suggestions on a new one to fit my truck and Will this make the truck run bad?

I'd call afe.  You need to replace it if it is sucking air in post air filter.

It has been sucking unfiltered air. Im sorry that happened but glad you found it sooner than later.

Factory elbow and bhaf should work good

 For a quick fix duct tape it up. It's on the suction side so that will at least keep out the unfiltered air until you get a replacement.

Stock air elbow is better than any aftermarket. I always get a giggle when the plastic duct work breaksdown over years of being heated and cooled. The stock air elbow is rubber and built to withstand the heat and conditions under the hood. Its a smooth bore and always flows better than most aftermarkets. Like myself I live out in the dirt roads so washable filter tend to pass more dirt than BHAF. (Big Honkin' Air Filter).

 

 

Now look at your turbo is it clean or is it dirty? If it black and dirty your filter has failed you and your passing dirt into the engine and doing serious damage!

 

Here is a failed washable filter after passing dirt to the turbo. This same dirt is all the into the engine!

 

Now after checking my own turbo with a BHAF this is after 100k miles of running a BHAF...

 

So tell me which filter is better at keeping the dirt and debris out of your engine? Sure is not a washable filter that is for sure!

This is why Mopar1973Man forum does so well... You always get down to earth information with facts to back it up. There is so much false information it can start to influence a lot of us but, MoparMan  always has the vaccine.

People think I only deal with my own truck being 90% of the photos I post here. Actually, I've worked for the public now for over 18 years doing diesel work in my local community. After seeing all the different versions of washable performance filters and the results I can clearly say there is no washable filter capable of keeping the dirt and dust out of your engine. Every time you wash that filter you are reducing the filter media from a good micro number to nothing more than a screen door. When do you toss it out? ANYTIME there is dust or blackness to the turbo. This means there are dust and debris passing through.

I remember those! Sold me on a couple to. A few years ago I switched back to paper on the wife’s truck and the camaro. 

Same here the display. I ran a KN for many years. Always cleaned very and never tried to get it completely clean. The wife had her's cleaned by a shop that used compress air on it. You could see thru it like Mike's picture only worse. I threw it away and pur her back on paper filters to eleminate that happening again.

 I have to say I am a bit surprised that the "silencer" is still in your turbo mike. I've never heard you mention them really but I thought most everyone removed them.

I kept mine in because I don't want air turbulating when entering turbo, some say it doesn't affect the performance with the ring in or out just more for noise, but I'd like to think a smooth transaction is better than a sharp edge. 

I kept mine in because the Boss Lady doesn't want to here it ; says it's loud enough in the cab.
