  1. Kerley,I only have a 2001 manual, but the wire colors for the hot on ashtray and cup holder lamps are ORANGE for the hot side. (Black is rarely ever the hot side on vehicles*. edit: this statement only applies to US wired cars after about '70. for "prince of darkness" and other European wired cars you are basically on your own!) and black w/ orange stripe is the ground. 2. I run one before my fass and my grandpa runs one before his raptor. Wix makes a diesel specific filter but I cant find the number. I put one on my grandpas for 1/2 lines and mines has 3/8 lines but I will crawl under it tomorrow and see if I can see the numbers.

The AFC needs boost pressure to push it to and fro, to control smoke.. Why they didn't just run a little line to the intake manifold for that and a little line from the wastegate to the compressor is beyond me, but I have done just that on my truck.. There is a flat spot on the front of the compressor housing and I drilled and tapped it and ditched the crossover line, though I also ditched the entire AFC so I didn't have to tap into the intake manifold. Actually that line is already there, you just gotta drill and tap the compressor housing and your good to go. Cap the fitting that went to the crossover...
  4. Teh mad shifter got my vote. always liked that photo.
  5. I'm 45 miles from Memphis! Where are you at?Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  6. I agree with Dorkweed, I'm tending to believe it's in the valve guides to. It's really not that bad of a job to do yourself. I pulled the head and replaced the head gasket. Come on over to Arkansas and let's get it done.....but not this week though! I'm a little busy, fixing to do an engine swap on a 6.7Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  7. I truly don't believe it's your turbo.......for the simple fact that you checked it out!!!! Just saying, not arguing.............but, I have been wrong a time or two in the past!!!!I've got a Bud with a '05 Duramax. That truck eats oil. I've been behind him, and he blows blue smoke out like crazy. Especially after cold starts and "prolonged" idling. But my Bud's truck also smokes blue more when he turns right, vs. turning left!!!My Buds truck was what I was basing all my replies to you on. Sounds' similar to some extent, hey?? My Bud has had his truck back to the GM stealership about the oil consumption, and they've said, there's nothing wrong..........and they consider the amount of oil he's using as normal!!!! Which is 2-3 quarts every 5k!!!!!:banghead: Sure sounds like piston rings or valve guides to me!!!What do think about that????? I'll wait for a reply, before I say anything further!!
  8. It's been a while but I'm fairly sure it would not be the black wire.
  9. Could very possibly be the turbo. The smoke is sign of oil burning, how much smoke is there?Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
  10. You've not worked on many European cars LOL ;)
  11. AHHHHHH...... So now i have a brand new clutch!!! i spent a few hours friday after work taking everything off the rig so all we needed to remove was the crossmember and tranny. Saturday my friend came over and he commanded the jack and i did the work, we got the tranny moved back and i commenced removal of flywheel to get machined. as i inspected the flywheel i noticed a couple high hotspots but zero cracks!!! So we got it machined for $25 and had lunch. Then back to the grind. I was able to replace the rear main with a bit of fuss taking the old one out (was in there nice and good) then placed the new one in dry and surfaces cleaned on the crank flange and housing surface. then put the flywheel back on, torqued the bolts to 50ft-lb then to 100ft-lb then inserted the pilot bearing (was in the freezer a bit to make it easy). I cleaned up all the surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate then installed the clutch and plate, torqued evenly in star fashion to 22ft-lb. i got the clutch nicely aligned and started to put the tranny back and after attempting to get it mated it had shifted on the tranny jack and almost was about to fall off... but we rescued it and i changed tactics. I stuck it in gear, put it in 4wd, and manipulated the front shaft flange to line the splines up and it popped in quick, then getting it aligned to the pilot bearing was a pain but without forcing it we got it in and the guide pins lined right up and i was able to bolt it together. i got finished at 9 pm buttoning it all up. No leaks, drives real damn nice and shifts like a dream! The old throw out bearing had the grease all dried up from clutch dust and made it hard to move on the shaft but i properly regreased the blood groove on the new bearing and the shaft as well. So all in all i have a new... clutch throw out bearing pilot bearing throw out arm and pivot ball flywheel machined nicely and in excellent condition its much easier to get into gear now that the clutch doesnt drag from the throwout bearing sticking and it you are precise you can get moving without the grabbiness most complain about. clutch purchased from Diesel Auto Power http://www.dieselautopower.com/product_p/valair%20kev-fslash-kev%20nmu70279-05.htm here are the specs.. 13.00" x 1.375" Performance Replacement Kevlar/ Kevlar Buttons HD Spring Hub Rated @ 450HP / 950 ft lbs Torque 3400# Pressure Plate Kit includes: Pressure Plate, Clutch Disc, Release Bearing, Pilot Bearing and Alignment Tool. Valair rated them to @ 500HP / 1000 ft lbs Torque
  12. That will do absolutely nothing but wipe out the APPS calibration. It will not reset codes, reboot computers, or fixed problems. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn7J8FQ8x5w

What I'm finding out it takes a special kind of person to drive with performance mods and get good MPG's from it. The best learning tool is the ScanGauge II that will aid you in tuning as well as how to drive the vehicle getting the most from MPG's.
  14. I noticed that on my truck I had to wait until the grid heaters stopped cycling as DC voltage goes from 13.8 VDC (off) to 10.5 VDC (on) and the DVM picks this up as AC. Does not account for the 30 VAC you are getting though?
  15. Southbend Con OFE here...But remember if you have oversized tires the amount of torque will be higher at the flywheel than the wheels. Hence why I'm running smaller tires so the tires will spin before the clutch slips.
